Chern Classes of Tropical Manifolds
We extend the definitions of Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson (CSM) cycles of matroids to tropical manifolds. To do this, we provide an alternate description of CSM cycles of matroids which is invariant under integer affine transformations. Utilising results of Esterov and Katz-Stapledon, we prove correspondence theorems for the CSM classes of tropicalisations of subvarieties of toric varieties. We also provide an adjunction formula relating the CSM cycles of a tropical manifold and a codimension-one tropical submanifold. Lastly, we establish Noether's Formula for compact tropical surfaces with a Delzant face structure. This extends the class of surfaces for which the formula had been previously proved by the third author.
Combinatorial patchworking: back from tropical geometry
We show that, once translated to the dual setting of convex triangulations of lattice polytopes, results and methods from previous tropical works by Arnal-Renaudineau-Shaw, Renaudineau-Shaw, Renaudineau-Rau-Shaw, and Jell-Rau-Shaw extend to non-convex triangulations. So, while the translation of Viro's patchworking method to the setting of tropical hypersurfaces has inspired several tremendous developments over the last two decades, we return to the the original polytope setting in order to generalize and simplify some results regarding the topology of $T$-submanifolds of real toric varieties.
Planar Tropical Cubic Curves of Any Genus, and Higher Dimensional Generalisations

We study the maximal values of Betti numbers of tropical subvarieties of a given dimension and degree in $\mathbb{TP}^n$. We provide a lower estimate for the maximal value of the top Betti number, which naturally depends on the dimension and degree, but also on the codimension. In particular, when the codimension is large enough, this lower estimate is larger than the maximal value of the corresponding Hodge number of complex algebraic projective varieties of the given dimension and degree. In the case of surfaces, we extend our study to all tropical homology groups. As a special case, we prove that there exist planar tropical cubic curves of genus $g$ for any non-negative integer $g$.
Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson cycles of matroids

We define Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson (CSM) cycles of an arbitrary matroid. These are balanced weighted fans supported on the skeleta of the corresponding Bergman fan. In the case that the matroid arises from a complex hyperplane arrangement A, we show that these cycles represent the CSM class of the complement of A. We also prove that for any matroid, the degrees of its CSM cycles are given by the coefficients of (a shift of) the reduced characteristic polynomial, and that CSM cycles are valuations under matroid polytope subdivisions.
Recursive formulas for Welschinger invariants of the projective plane
Published • View PublicationBIB
Welschinger invariants of the real projective plane can be computed via the enumeration of enriched graphs, called marked floor diagrams. By a purely combinatorial study of these objects, we prove a Caporaso-Harris type formula which allows one to compute Welschinger invariants for configurations of points with any number of complex conjugated points.
