Let $d$ and $n$ be positive integers with $n \geq d + 1$ and $τ_{1}, ..., τ_{n}$ integers with $τ_{1} < ... < τ_{n}$. Let $C_{d}(τ_{1}, ..., τ_{n}) \subset \RR^{d}$ denote the cyclic polytope of dimension $d$ with $n$ vertices $(τ_{1},τ_{1}^{2},...,τ_{1}^{d}), ..., (τ_{n},τ_{n}^{2},...,τ_{n}^{d})$. We are interested in finding the smallest integer $γ_{d}$ such that if $τ_{i+1} - τ_{i} \geq γ_{d}$ for $1 \leq i < n$, then $C_{d}(τ_{1}, ..., τ_{n})$ is normal. One of the known results is $γ_{d} \leq d (d + 1)$. In the present paper a new inequality $γ_{d} \leq d^{2} - 1$ is proved. Moreover, it is shown that if $d \geq 4$ with $τ_{3} - τ_{2} = 1$, then $C_{d}(τ_{1}, ..., τ_{n})$ is not very ample.

In this note we consider the question how the set of inversions of a permutation $π\in S_n$ can be partitioned into two subset, such that those are itself inversion sets of permutations. This is archived by exploiting a connection to a graph theoretical result. For this we establish a correspondence between the substitution decomposition of $π$ and the modular decomposition of its inversion graph. We also consider the special case of multiplicative decompositions.
The Linear Ordering Polytope via Representations
Let $P_n$ denote the $n$-th linear ordering polytope. We define projections from $P_n$ to the $n$-th permutahedron and to the $(n-1)$-st linear ordering polytope. Both projections are equivariant with respect to the natural $\Sn$-action and they project to orthogonal subspaces. In particular the second projection defines an $S_n$-action in $P_{n-1}$.
On homology spheres with few minimal non faces

Let Δbe a (d-1)-dimensional homology sphere on n vertices with m minimal non-faces. We consider the invariant α:= m - (n-d) and prove that for a given value of α, there are only finitely many homology spheres that cannot be obtained through one-point suspension and suspension from another. Moreover, we describe all homology spheres with αup to four and, as a corollary, all homology spheres with up to eight minimal non-faces. To prove these results we consider the nerve of the minimal non-faces of Δ.
