The strong component structure of the barely subcritical directed configuration model
We study the behaviour of the largest components of the directed configuration model in the barely subcritical regime. We show that with high probability all strongly connected components in this regime are either cycles or isolated vertices and give an asymptotic distribution of the size of the $k$th largest cycle. This gives a configuration model analogue of a result of Łuczak and Seierstad for the binomial random digraph.

Largest component of subcritical random graphs with given degree sequence
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the size of the largest component of two models of random graphs with prescribed degree sequence, the configuration model (CM) and the uniform model (UM), in the (barely) subcritical regime. For the CM, we give upper bounds that are asymptotically tight for certain degree sequences. These bounds hold under mild conditions on the sequence and improve previous results of Hatami and Molloy on the barely subcritical regime. For the UM, we give weaker upper bounds that are tight up to logarithmic terms but require no assumptions on the degree sequence. In particular, the latter result applies to degree sequences with infinite variance in the subcritical regime.
The typical approximate structure of sets with bounded sumset

Let $A_1$ and $A_2$ be randomly chosen subsets of the first $n$ integers of cardinalities $s_2\geq s_1 = Ω(s_2)$, such that their sumset $A_1+A_2$ has size $m$. We show that asymptotically almost surely $A_1$ and $A_2$ are almost fully contained in arithmetic progressions $P_1$ and $P_2$ with the same common difference and cardinalities approximately $s_i m/(s_1+s_2)$. We also prove a counting theorem for such pairs of sets in arbitrary abelian groups. The results hold for $s_i = ω(\log^3 n)$ and $s_1+s_2 \leq m = o(s_2/\log^3 n)$. Our main tool is an asymmetric version of the method of hypergraph containers which was recently used by Campos to prove similar results in the special case $A=B$.
Statistical physics approaches to Unique Games
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show how two techniques from statistical physics can be adapted to solve a variant of the notorious Unique Games problem, potentially opening new avenues towards the Unique Games Conjecture. The variant, which we call Count Unique Games, is a promise problem in which the "yes" case guarantees a certain number of highly satisfiable assignments to the Unique Games instance. In the standard Unique Games problem, the "yes" case only guarantees at least one such assignment. We exhibit efficient algorithms for Count Unique Games based on approximating a suitable partition function for the Unique Games instance via (i) a zero-free region and polynomial interpolation, and (ii) the cluster expansion. We also show that a modest improvement to the parameters for which we give results would refute the Unique Games Conjecture.

The critical window in random digraphs
We consider the component structure of the random digraph $D(n,p)$ inside the critical window $p = n^{-1} + λn^{-4/3}$.We show that the largest component $\mathcal{C}_1$ has size of order $n^{1/3}$ in this range. In particular we give explicit bounds on the tail probabilities of $|\mathcal{C}_1|n^{-1/3}$.

A Rainbow Dirac's Theorem
Published • View PublicationBIB
A famous theorem of Dirac states that any graph on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $n/2$ has a Hamilton cycle. Such graphs are called Dirac graphs. Strengthening this result, we show the existence of rainbow Hamilton cycles in $μn$-bounded colourings of Dirac graphs for sufficiently small $μ>0$.
Rainbow factors in hypergraphs
For any $r$-graph $H$, we consider the problem of finding a rainbow $H$-factor in an $r$-graph $G$ with large minimum $\ell$-degree and an edge-colouring that is suitably bounded. We show that the asymptotic degree threshold is the same as that for finding an $H$-factor.

Rainbow matchings in Dirac bipartite graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show the existence of rainbow perfect matchings in $μn$-bounded edge colourings of Dirac bipartite graphs, for a sufficiently small $μ>0$. As an application of our results, we obtain several results on the existence of rainbow $k$-factors in Dirac graphs and rainbow spanning subgraphs of bounded maximum degree on graphs with large minimum degree.
