A bijection between two subfamilies of Motzkin paths
Published • View PublicationBIB
Two subfamilies of Motzkin paths, with the same numbers of up, down, horizontal steps were known to be equinumerous with ternary trees and related objects. We construct a bijection between these two families that does not use any auxiliary objects, like ternary trees.

Combinatorics on lattice paths in strips
Published • View PublicationBIB
For lattice paths in strips which begin at $(0,0)$ and have only up steps $U: (i,j) \rightarrow (i+1,j+1)$ and down steps $D: (i,j)\rightarrow (i+1,j-1)$, let $A_{n,k}$ denote the set of paths of length $n$ which start at $(0,0)$, end on heights $0$ or $-1$, and are contained in the strip $-\lfloor\frac{k+1}{2}\rfloor \leq y \leq \lfloor\frac{k}{2}\rfloor$ of width $k$, and let $B_{n,k}$ denote the set of paths of length $n$ which start at $(0,0)$ and are contained in the strip $0 \leq y \leq k$. We establish a bijection between $A_{n,k}$ and $B_{n,k}$. The generating functions for the subsets of these two sets are discussed as well. Furthermore, we provide another bijection between $A_{n,3}$ and $B_{n,3}$ by translating the paths to two types of trees.

Four identities related to third order mock theta functions
Ramanujan presented four identities for third order mock theta functions in his Lost Notebook. In 2005, with the aid of complex analysis, Yesilyurt first proved these four identities. Recently, Andrews et al. provided different proofs by using $q$-series. In this paper, in view of some identities of a universal mock theta function \begin{align*} g(x;q)=x^{-1}\left(-1+\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}\frac{q^{n^{2}}}{(x;q)_{n+1}(qx^{-1};q)_{n}}\right), \end{align*} we establish new proofs of these four identities. In particular, by means of an identity of $g(x;q)$ given by Ramanujan and some theta function identities due to Mortenson, we find a new simple proof of the fourth identity.

Congruences for the $k$ dots bracelet partition functions
Published • View PublicationBIB
By finding the congruent relations between the generating function of the 5 dots bracelet partitions and that of the 5-regular partitions, we get some new congruences modulo 2 for the 5 dots bracelet partition function. Moreover, for a given prime $p$, we study the arithmetic properties modulo $p$ of the $k$ dots bracelet partitions.

The Cauchy Operator for Basic Hypergeometric Series
Published • View PublicationBIB
We introduce the Cauchy augmentation operator for basic hypergeometric series. Heine's ${}_2φ_1$ transformation formula and Sears' ${}_3φ_2$ transformation formula can be easily obtained by the symmetric property of some parameters in operator identities. The Cauchy operator involves two parameters, and it can be considered as a generalization of the operator $T(bD_q)$. Using this operator, we obtain extensions of the Askey-Wilson integral, the Askey-Roy integral, Sears' two-term summation formula, as well as the $q$-analogues of Barnes' lemmas. Finally, we find that the Cauchy operator is also suitable for the study of the bivariate Rogers-Szegö polynomials, or the continuous big $q$-Hermite polynomials.
On the Bilateral Series $_2ψ_2$
We obtain a formula which reduces the evaluation of a $_2ψ_2$ series to two $_2φ_1$ series. In some sense, this identity may be considered as a companion of Slater's formulas. We also find that a two-term ${}_2ψ_2$ summation formula due to Slater can be derived from a unilateral summation formula of Andrews by bilateral extension and parameter augmentation.
The Abel Lemma and the q-Gosper Algorithm
Published • View PublicationBIB
Chu has recently shown that the Abel lemma on summations by parts can serve as the underlying relation for Bailey's ${}_6ψ_6$ bilateral summation formula. In other words, the Abel lemma spells out the telescoping nature of the ${}_6ψ_6$ sum. We present a systematic approach to compute Abel pairs for bilateral and unilateral basic hypergeometric summation formulas by using the $q$-Gosper algorithm. It is demonstrated that Abel pairs can be derived from Gosper pairs. This approach applies to many classical summation formulas.
Finite Form of the Quintuple Product Identity

The celebrated quintuple product identity follows surprisingly from an almost-trivial algebraic identity, which is the limiting case of the terminating q-Dixon formula.
