$λ$-Chromatic Polynomials and Polytope Geometry
In this paper, we investigate the notion of the \textit{$λ$-chromatic polynomial} of a graph, which enumerates the number of distinct $L(2,1)$-colorings using colors from a prescribed finite set. We prove that the $λ$-chromatic polynomial of a graph with $n$ vertices is a monic polynomial of degree $n$ and provide a combinatorial interpretation via lattice point enumeration within the framework of inside-out polytopes. Moreover, we compute the $λ$-chromatic polynomial of complete graphs $K_n$ using lattice path enumeration, and we develop a block-gap technique to derive the $λ$-chromatic polynomials for complete bipartite and multipartite graphs. Our approach unifies geometric, combinatorial, and algebraic methods to provide a systematic treatment of $λ$-colorings across various families of graphs.

Codes and Orbit Covers of Finite Abelian Groups
It is well known that the discrete analogue of a lattice is a linear code which is a vector subspace of Hamming space $\mathbb{F}^n$. The set $\mathbb{F}$ is a finite field and $n \in \mathbb{Z}_{>0}$. Our attempt is to construct a class of lattices such that its discrete analogues are variable length non-linear codes. Let $\mathcal{G}$ and $\mathcal{H}$ be two finite groups, and let $\mathcal{S}$ be a fixed set of generators for $\mathcal{G}$. The homomorphism code is defined as the set of all homomorphisms from $\mathcal{G}$ to $\mathcal{H}$, denoted by, $\mathcal{C} = Hom(\mathcal{G}, \mathcal{H})$. To each homomorphism $\varphi$ between $\mathcal{G}$ and $\mathcal{H}$, a codeword $c_\varphi$ is associated, it is a vector of values of $\varphi$ on the generators in $\mathcal{S}$, that is, $c_\varphi = (\varphi(s_1), \varphi(s_2), \dots, \varphi(s_k))$, where $\varphi(s_i)$ is the image of $s_i \in \mathcal{S}$, $1 \leq i \leq k$. We provide a design to construct a variable length binary non-linear code called as automorphism orbit code from a finite abelian $p$-group of rank more than 1, where $p$ is a prime number. For each finite abelian $p$-group, the codewords of the automorphism orbit code are variable length codewords called as automorphism orbit codewords. Note that homomorphism codes are determined by homomorphisms between groups, whereas automorphism orbit codes are specified by partitions of a number, orbits of a group action, homomorphisms and automorphisms of groups. We make use of elements of $Hom(\mathcal{G}, \mathcal{H})$ to present a cover relation for bit strings of codewords of an automorphism orbit code and formulate a lattice of variable length non-linear codes. Finally, we discuss some information related to the future research work on connections to representation theory of groups and algebras.

On the expansion constant and distance constrained colourings of hypergraphs
For any two non-negative integers h and k, h > k, an L(h, k)-colouring of a graph G is a colouring of vertices such that adjacent vertices admit colours that at least differ by h and vertices that are two distances apart admit colours that at least differ by k. The smallest positive integer δ such that G permits an L(h, k)-colouring with maximum colour δ is known as the L(h, k)-chromatic number (L(h, k)-colouring number) denoted by λ_{h,k}(G). In this paper, we discuss some interesting invariants in hypergraphs. In fact, we study the relation between the spectral gap and L(2, 1)-chromatic number of hypergraphs. We derive some inequalities which relates L(2, 1)-chromatic number of a k-regular simple graph to its spectral gap and expansion constant. The upper bound of L(h, k)-chromatic number in terms of various hypergraph invariants such as strong chromatic number, strong independent number and maximum degree is obtained. We determine the sharp upper bound for L(2, 1)-chromatic number of hypertrees in terms of its maximum degree. Finally, we conclude this paper with a discussion on L(2, 1)-colouring in cartesian product of some classes of hypergraphs.

Some invariants related to threshold and chain graphs

Let G = (V, E) be a finite simple connected graph. We say a graph G realizes a code of the type 0^s_1 1^t_1 0^s_2 1^t_2 ... 0^s_k1^t_k if and only if G can obtained from the code by some rule. Some classes of graphs such as threshold and chain graphs realizes a code of the above mentioned type. In this paper, we develop some computationally feasible methods to determine some interesting graph theoretical invariants. We present an efficient algorithm to determine the metric dimension of threshold and chain graphs. We compute threshold dimension and restricted threshold dimension of threshold graphs. We discuss L(2, 1)-coloring of threshold and chain graphs. In fact, for every threshold graph G, we establish a formula by which we can obtain the λ-chromatic number of G. Finally, we provide an algorithm to compute the λ-chromatic number of chain graphs.

Degenerations and order of graphs realized by finite abelian groups
Let G_1 and G_2 be two groups. If a group homomorphism \varphi : G_1 \longrightarrow G_2 maps a \in G_1 into b \in G_2 such that \varphi(a) = b, then we say a degenerates to b and if every element of G_1 degenerates to elements in G_2, then we say G_1 degenerates to G_2. In this paper, we study degeneration in graphs and show that degeneration in groups is a particular case of degeneration in graphs. We exhibit some interesting properties of degeneration in graphs. We use this concept to present a pictorial representation of graphs realized by finite abelian groups. We discus some partial orders on the set T_p_1 \dots T_p_n of all graphs realized by finite abelian p_r-groups, where each p_r, 1 \leq r \leq n, is a prime number. We show that each finite abelian p_r-group of rank n can be identified with saturated chains of Young diagrams in the poset T_p_1 \dots T_p_n. We present a combinatorial formula which represents the degree of a projective representation of a symmetric group. This formula determines the number of different saturated chains in T_p_1 \cdots T_p_n and the number of finite abelian groups of different orders.

Realization of zero-divisor graphs of finite commutative rings as threshold graphs

Let R be a finite commutative ring with unity, and let G = (V, E) be a simple graph. The zero-divisor graph, denoted by Γ(R) is a simple graph with vertex set as R, and two vertices x, y \in R are adjacent in Γ(R) if and only if $xy = 0$. In [10], the authors have studied the Laplacian eigenvalues of the graph Γ(Z_n) and for distinct proper divisors d_1, d_2, \dots, d_k of n, they defined the sets as, A_{d_i} = {x \in Zn : (x, n) = d_i}, where (x, n) denotes the greatest common divisor of x and n. In this paper, we show that the sets A_{d_i}, 1 \leq i \leq k are actually orbits of the group action: Aut(Γ(R)) \times R \longrightarrow R, where Aut(Γ(R)) denotes the automorphism group of Γ(R). Our main objective is to determine new classes of threshold graphs, since these graphs play an important role in several applied areas. For a reduced ring R, we prove that Γ(R) is a connected threshold graph if and only if R = F_q or R = F_2 \times F_q. We provide classes of threshold graphs realized by some classes of local rings. Finally, we characterize all finite commutative rings with unity of which zero-divisor graphs are not threshold.

L(2, 1)-labeling of some zero-divisor graphs associated with commutative rings
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $\mathcal{G} = (\mathcal{V}, \mathcal{E})$ be a simple graph, an $L(2,1)$-labeling of $\mathcal{G}$ is an assignment of labels from nonnegative integers to vertices of $\mathcal{G}$ such that adjacent vertices get labels which differ by at least by two, and vertices which are at distance two from each other get different labels. The $λ$-number of $\mathcal{G}$, denoted by $λ(\mathcal{G})$, is the smallest positive integer $\ell$ such that $\mathcal{G}$ has an $L(2,1)$-labeling with all labels as members of the set $\{0,1, \dots,\ell\}$. The zero-divisor graph of a finite commutative ring $R$ with unity, denoted by $Γ(R)$, is the simple graph whose vertices are all zero divisors of $R$ in which two vertices $u$ and $v$ are adjacent if and only if $uv = 0$ in $R$. In this paper, we investigate $L(2,1)$-labeling of some zero-divisor graphs. We study the partite truncation, a graph operation that allows us to obtain a reduced graph of relatively small order from a graph of significantly larger order. We establish the relation between $λ$-numbers of the graph and its partite truncated one. We make use of the operation partite truncation to contract the zero-divisor graph of a reduced ring to the zero-divisor graph of a Boolean ring.

Group-annihilator graphs realised by finite abelian groups and its properties
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a finite abelian group viewed a $\mathbb{Z}$-module and let $\mathcal{G} = (V, E)$ be a simple graph. In this paper, we consider a graph $Γ(G)$ called as a \textit{group-annihilator} graph. The vertices of $Γ(G)$ are all elements of $G$ and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent in $Γ(G)$ if and only if $[x : G][y : G]G = \{0\}$, where $x, y\in G$ and $[x : G] = \{r\in\mathbb{Z} : rG \subseteq \mathbb{Z}x\}$ is an ideal of a ring $\mathbb{Z}$. We discuss in detail the graph structure realised by the group $G$. Moreover, we study the creation sequence, hyperenergeticity and hypoenergeticity of group-annihilator graphs. Finally, we conclude the paper with a discussion on Laplacian eigen values of the group-annhilator graph. We show that the Laplacian eigen values are representatives of orbits of the group action: $Aut(Γ(G)) \times G \rightarrow G$.

Total perfect codes in graphs realized by commutative rings
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with unity not equal to zero and let $Γ(R)$ be a zero-divisor graph realized by $R$. For a simple, undirected, connected graph $G = (V, E)$, a {\it total perfect code} denoted by $C(G)$ in $G$ is a subset $C(G) \subseteq V(G)$ such that $|N(v) \cap C(G)| = 1$ for all $v \in V(G)$, where $N(v)$ denotes the open neighbourhood of a vertex $v$ in $G$. In this paper, we study total perfect codes in graphs which are realized as zero-divisor graphs. We show a zero-divisor graph realized by a local commutative ring with unity admits a total perfect code if and only if the graph has degree one vertices. We also show that if $Γ(R)$ is a regular graph on $|Z^*(R)|$ vertices, then $R$ is a reduced ring and $|Z^*(R)| \equiv 0(mod ~2)$, where $Z^*(R)$ is a set of non-zero zero-divisors of $R$. We provide a characterization for all commutative rings with unity of which the realized zero-divisor graphs admit total perfect codes. Finally, we determine the cardinality of a total perfect code in $Γ(R)$ and discuss the significance of the study of total perfect codes in graphs realized by commutative rings with unity.
