Degeneracy: From Graphs to Matroids
A graph is $k$-degenerate if every subgraph has a vertex of degree at most $k$. We extend this notion to matroids, defining a loopless matroid $M$ to be $k$-degenerate if every restriction of $M$ contains a cocircuit of size at most $k$; $M$ is minimally $k$-degenerate if it has cogirth $k$ and every proper restriction of $M$ has cogirth at most $k-1$. Our main result characterizes extremal minimally $k$-degenerate matroids. We also extend the known arboricity bound for matroids, showing that $k$-degenerate matroids have arboricity at most $k$ and providing sharper bounds.

The Kővari-Sós-Turán theorem for $\operatorname{GF}(q)$-representable matroids
In this paper, we establish an analogue of the Kővari-Sós-Turán Theorem for $\operatorname{GF}(q)$-representable matroids. For $2\leq s\leq t$, we show that if $M$ is a rank-$n$ simple $\operatorname{GF}(q)$-representable matroid having no $M(K_{s,t})$-restriction, then \[ |E(M)|=O_{q,s,t}\bigl(q^{(1-1/s)n}\bigr). \] In particular, we prove that the maximum number of elements in a simple rank-$n$ binary matroid with no $M(K_{2,t})$-restriction is $Θ_{t}(2^{n/2})$ where the lower bound is obtained using binary Sidon sets.

Unavoidable flats in connected regular matroids
This paper proves that every $2$-connected regular matroid of sufficiently large rank has a $2$-connected graphic flat of large rank. Furthermore, we explicitly determine a list of such unavoidable flats.

The connected binary matroids with a pair of elements in no non-spanning circuits
Let $M$ be a simple connected binary matroid, and let $e$ and $f$ be distinct elements of $M$. It is well known that, when the only circuits containing $e$ are spanning, $M$ is a circuit with at least three elements. This paper proves that if every circuit containing $\{e,f\}$ is spanning, then the canonical tree decomposition of $M$ is a path in which each vertex is labeled by a circuit, a copy of $U_{1,3}$, or a binary spike having one non-tip element deleted.

Super-minimally $3$-connected matroids
A super-minimally $k$-connected matroid is a $k$-connected matroid having no proper $k$-connected restriction of size at least $2k-2$. This extends the corresponding concept for graphs. For $k=2$ and $k=3$, we determine the maximum size of a super-minimally $k$-connected rank-$r$ matroid and characterize, in each case, those matroids attaining the extremal bound. These results parallel Murty's results for minimally $2$-connected matroids and Oxley's results for minimally $3$-connected matroids.
Reconstruction of C_4-free graphs from the set of closed neighborhoods and digital convexity
Fomin, Kratochvíl, Lokshtanov, Mancini, and Telle showed that every $C_{4}$-free graph is reconstructible from the \emph{multiset} of closed neighborhoods. We strengthen their result proving that every $C_{4}$-free graph is reconstructible from the \emph{set} of closed neighborhoods. This extends the work of Lafrance et al.\ by showing that all $C_{4}$-free graphs, and hence all graphs of girth at least five, are reconstructible from their digitally convex sets. A subset $S$ of vertices in a graph $G$ is digitally convex if, for every vertex $v \notin S$, there is a private neighbor of $v$. We establish that reconstruction from digitally convex sets is equivalent to reconstruction from the set of closed neighborhoods.

Super-minimally $3$-connected graphs
In this paper, we introduce super-minimally $k$-connected graphs, those $k$-connected graphs in which no proper subgraph is $k$-connected. For $k$ greater than or equal to three, this class lies strictly between the classes of minimally $k$-connected graphs and uniformly $k$-connected graphs. In particular, we determine the minimum number of degree-$3$ vertices in a super-minimally $3$-connected graph, thereby extending a result of Halin on minimally $3$-connected graphs. In addition, we determine the maximum number of edges in a super-minimally $3$-connected graph, extending Xu's result for uniformly $3$-connected graphs, and providing an analogue of Halin's result for minimally $3$-connected graphs.
Rainbow triangles and the Erdős-Hajnal problem in projective geometries
We formulate a geometric version of the Erdős-Hajnal conjecture that applies to finite projective geometries rather than graphs, in both its usual 'induced' form and the multicoloured form. The multicoloured conjecture states, roughly, that a colouring $c$ of the points of $\mathsf{PG}(n-1,q)$ containing no copy of a fixed colouring $c_0$ of $\mathsf{PG}(k-1,q)$ for small $k$ must contain a subspace of dimension polynomial in $n$ that avoids some colour. If $(k,q) = (2,2)$, then $c_0$ is a colouring of a three-element 'triangle', and there are three essentially different cases, all of which we resolve. We derive both the cases where $c_0$ assigns the same colour to two different elements from a recent breakthrough result in additive combinatorics due to Kelley and Meka. We handle the case that $c_0$ is a 'rainbow' colouring by proving that rainbow-triangle-free colourings of projective geometries are exactly those that admit a certain decomposition into two-coloured pieces. This is closely analogous to a theorem of Gallai on rainbow-triangle-free coloured complete graphs. We also show that existing structure theorems resolve certain two-coloured cases where $(k,q) = (2,3)$, and $(k,q) = (3,2)$.

Unavoidable cycle-contraction minors of large $2$-connected graphs
It is well known that every sufficiently large connected graph has, as an induced subgraph, $K_n$, $K_{1,n}$, or an $n$-vertex path. A 2023 paper of Allred, Ding, and Oporowski identified a set of unavoidable induced subgraphs of sufficiently large $2$-connected graphs. In this paper, we establish a dual version of this theorem by focusing on the minors obtained by contracting cycles.
