Spectral Turán Problems for Expanded hypergraphs
Given a graph $F$, the expansion $F^{(r)}$ of $F$ is defined as the $r$-uniform hypergraph obtained from $F$ by adding a set of $(r-2)$ distinct new vertices to each edge of $F$. In this paper, we investigate spectral stability results for hypergraphs and their applications. We first establish a spectral stability property: for any $r$-uniform hypergraph containing no copy of the expansion $F^{(r)}$ of a $(k+1)$-chromatic graph $F$, if its $p$-spectral is close to the extremal value, then the hypergraph is structurally close to $T_r(n, k)$, the complete $k$-partite $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices where sizes of any two parts differ by at most one.Using this spectral stability result, we determine the unique extremal hypergraph that maximizes the $p$-spectral radius among all $n$-vertex $r$-uniform hypergraphs without $t$ vertex-disjoint copies of the expansion $K_{k+1}^{(r)}$ of $K_{k+1}$. We prove that this extremal hypergraph is isomorphic to $K_{t-1}^{r} \,\vee\, T_r(n-t+1, k)$, the join of the complete $r$-uniform hypergraph $K_{t-1}^{r}$ and $T_r(n-t+1, k)$.As a corollary, we show that $K_{t-1}^{r} \,\vee\, T_r(n-t+1, k)$ is the unique extremal hypergraph for $tK_{k+1}^{(r)}$, which extends a result of Pikhurko [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 103 (2013) 220--225] for expanded complete graphs.
Edge partitions into induced-$2K_2$-free bipartite graphs
We study edge partitions of a bipartite graph into induced-$2K_2$-free bipartite graphs, i.e.\ into Ferrers (chain) graphs. We define $\fp(G)$ as the minimum number of parts in such a partition. We prove general lower and upper bounds in terms of induced matchings and Dilworth widths of neighborhood posets. We compute the parameter exactly for paths and even cycles, and we exhibit separations showing that the induced-matching lower bound and the width upper bound can both be far from tight. We also record a simple host-induced conflict-graph lower bound, present a $0$--$1$ matrix viewpoint, and add some complexity remarks.
Mirabolic Hecke algebras, Schur-Weyl duality and Frobenius character formulas
We first introduce a new presentation for the mirabolic Hecke algebra $\mathscr{H}_{n,R}(q)$ over an arbitrary commutative ring $R$ and derive a new basis. Based on this presentation, specializing to the case of $\mathscr{H}_n(q)$ over the field $\mathbb{C}(q)$, we construct a basis for the cocenter of $\mathscr{H}_n(q)$, which facilitates the definition of its character table. We further establish a Schur--Weyl duality between $\mathscr{H}_n(q)$ and the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_r)$. As an application, we obtain Frobenius character formulas for the irreducible characters of $\mathscr{H}_n(q)$ within the ring of symmetric functions. Finally, we derive a recursive Murnaghan--Nakayama rule for the computation of the character table.
On the $A_α$-characteristic polynomials of some join graphs
For $α\in [0,1]$, the $A_α$-matrix of graph $G$ is $A_α(G) = αD(G) + (1- α) A(G)$, where $A(G)$ and $D(G)$ are adjacency and degree diagonal matrix of $G$, respectively. Let $G_1 \dot{\vee}_Q G_2$, $G_1 \underline{\vee}_Q G_2$, $G_1 \dot{\vee}_T G_2$ and $G_1 \underline{\vee}_T G_2$ represent the $Q$-vertex join, $Q$-edge join, $T$-vertex join and $T$-edge join respectively, obtained from the graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$. This article determines the $A_α$-characteristic polynomials of the graphs $G_1 \dot{\vee}_Q G_2$, $G_1 \underline{\vee}_Q G_2$, $G_1 \dot{\vee}_T G_2$ and $G_1 \underline{\vee}_T G_2$ where $G_1$ is regular and $G_2$ can be any graph. The $A_α$-spectra of these graphs are computed in terms of those of $G_1$ and $G_2$ for both $G_1$ and $G_2$ are regular, as well as for $G_1$ is regular and $G_2$ is $K_{a,b}$, a complete bipartite graph. As an application, we construct an infinite number of pairs of graphs that have the same $A_α$-spectrum.
On the Transversal Coalition in r-Uniform Hypergraphs
A transversal coalition in a hypergraph $H$ is a partition of the vertex set $U$ into two subsets $U_1$ and $U_2$ such that neither $U_1$ nor $U_2$ alone intersects every hyperedge of $H$, but their union, $U_1 \cup U_2$, intersects every hyperedge in $H$. In this work, we investigate transversal coalition partitions in \( r \)-uniform hypergraphs. Specifically, we determine the transversal coalition number of complete \( r \)-uniform hypergraph, complete bipartite \( r \)-uniform hypergraph, \( r \)-uniform stars, and complete \( r \)-partite \( r \)-uniform hypergraph. We also investigate the transversal coalition number of \( r \)-uniform linear paths and cycles.
Graph Multivector Persistence: A Unified Framework for Dynamic Systems
We introduce a persistence-type invariant for finite weighted graphs based on combinatorial multivector dynamics. For each threshold parameter, a relation matrix determines a graph multivector field, whose induced directed dynamics admits a Morse decomposition given by its strongly connected components. As the threshold varies, these multivector fields form a monotone refinement family. We define the Morse persistence diagram by recording the birth and death of Morse sets along this filtration. The construction is purely combinatorial and does not rely on simplicial homology or persistence modules. We prove that the resulting persistence diagram is stable with respect to perturbations of the relation matrix in the sup norm. Each Morse set furthermore carries a combinatorial Conley index, yielding a topologically enriched invariant for multiscale graph structure.
Parameterized complexity of $r$-Hop, $r$-Step, and $r$-Hop Roman Domination
The \textsc{Dominating Set} problem is a classical and extensively studied topic in graph theory and theoretical computer science. In this paper, we examine the algorithmic complexity of several well-known exact-distance variants of domination, namely \textsc{$r$-Step Domination}, \textsc{$r$-Hop Domination}, and \textsc{$r$-Hop Roman Domination}.
Let $G$ be a graph and let $r \geq 2$ be an integer. A set $S \subseteq V(G)$ is an \emph{$r$-hop dominating set} if every vertex in $V(G)\setminus S$ is at distance exactly $r$ from some vertex of $S$. Similarly, $S$ is an \emph{$r$-step dominating set} if every vertex of $G$ lies at distance exactly $r$ from at least one vertex of $S$. An \emph{$r$-hop Roman dominating function} on $G$ is a function $f \colon V(G)\to\{0,1,2\}$ such that for every vertex $v$ with $f(v)=0$, there exists a vertex $u$ at distance exactly $r$ from $v$ with $f(u)=2$. The \emph{weight} of $f$ is defined as $f(V)=\sum_{v\in V(G)} f(v)$. The \textsc{$r$-Hop Domination} (respectively, \textsc{$r$-Step Domination}) problem asks whether $G$ admits an $r$-hop dominating set (respectively, $r$-step dominating set) of size at most $k$, while the \textsc{$r$-Hop Roman Domination} problem asks whether $G$ admits an $r$-hop Roman dominating function of weight at most $k$.
It is known that for every $r\ge 2$, the problems \textsc{$r$-Step Domination}, \textsc{$r$-Hop Domination}, and \textsc{$r$-Hop Roman Domination} are \textsc{NP}-complete. First we prove that for all $r\ge 2$, \textsc{$r$-Hop Roman Domination} is \textsc{W[2]}-complete. Furthermore, for every $r\ge 2$, \textsc{$r$-Step Domination} and \textsc{$r$-Hop Domination} remain \textsc{W[2]}-hard even when restricted to bipartite graphs and chordal graphs. Unless the ETH fails, none of these problems admits an algorithm running in time $2^{o(n+m)}$ on graphs with $n$ vertices and $m$ edges.
Counting $\ell$-interval Fubini rankings through their parking outcome
Fubini rankings with $n$ competitors are $n$-tuples with entries in $[n]=\{1,2,3,\ldots, n\}$ that encode the conclusion of a race that allows ties. Since Fubini rankings are parking functions, we can study their parking outcomes, which are permutations encoding the final parking order of the cars using the Fubini ranking as a preference list. We establish that the number of Fubini rankings with $n$ competitors having a fixed parking outcome $π$ is given by $2^{n-k}$, where $k$ denotes the number of runs in $π$. We then use this formula to give a new proof for the number of Fubini rankings, which is given by the Fubini numbers. We also consider the set of $\ell$-interval Fubini rankings with $n$ competitors, which are Fubini rankings where at most $\ell+1$ competitors tie at any rank. We show that the number of $\ell$-interval Fubini rankings with $n$ competitors having a fixed parking outcome $π$ is given by a product of a power of two and a product of $\ell$-Pingala numbers, where these factors depend only on the lengths of the runs that make up the parking outcome $π$. The $1$-interval Fubini rankings are known as unit Fubini rankings, and we show that the number of unit Fubini rankings having a fixed parking outcome $π$ is given by a product of Fibonacci numbers indexed by the lengths of the runs in $π$. We use these results to give a formula for the number of $\ell$-interval Fubini rankings with $n$ competitors for all $\ell\in[n]$. We conclude with some directions for further study.
Turán problems for multilinear maps
This paper is concerned with Turán problems for (alternating) multilinear maps, with the aim of determining the maximum dimension $k$, called the isotropy index, for which every such map has an isotropic subspace of dimension $k$. We extend the formula for the isotropy index of alternating bilinear maps [Buhler, Gupta & Harris, J. Algebra, 1987] to alternating multilinear maps of arbitrary order over algebraically closed fields. In particular, this answers an open question posed in [Qiao, Discrete Anal., 2023]. Moreover, we prove that the same formula holds for sufficiently large finite fields. For multilinear maps, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the isotropy index to be at least two. Our results have three implications: (1) For algebraically closed fields, we determine the exact value of the Feldman--Propp number, whose lower bound has been known for over thirty years [Feldman & Propp, Adv. Math., 1992] but whose precise value had remained undetermined. (2) We establish the exact values of both the Turán number and the Gow--Quinlan number for alternating multilinear maps of arbitrary order over algebraically closed fields. Specifically, our result greatly extends the existing formula for the Gow--Quinlan number for alternating bilinear maps [Gow & Quinlan, Linear Multilinear Algebra, 2006]. (3) Bridging the lower bound for the Erdős box problem and tensor analytic rank, we show that there is an obstruction to improving the existing lower bound in [Conlon, Pohoata & Zakharov, Discrete Anal., 2021] via the multilinear method.
A Colorful Way to Park: An Introduction to Exact $k$-Typed Parking Functions
Parking functions are tuples that describe the parking of $M$ cars on a street with $M$ parking spots. In this paper, we define exact $k$-typed parking functions ($k$-TPFs) to be a variant of classical parking functions. We then establish that every exact $k$-TPF $α$ of length $M$, corresponds to a unique parking configuration $C$. We observe that the collection of all exact $k$-TPFs which result in the same configuration form a disjoint subset of all exact $k$-TPFs. Lastly, we conclude by showing how parking permutations of an exact $k$-TPF can be related to other combinatorial objects.
