A Three-by-Three matrix representation of a generalized Tribonacci sequence
The Tribonacci sequence is a well-known example of third order recurrence sequence, which belongs to a particular class of recursive sequences. In this article, other generalized Tribonacci sequence is introduced and defined by $H_{n+2}=H_{n+1}+H_{n}+H_{n-1}\ \ (n\geq 1)$, where $H_{0}=3$, $H_{1}=0$ and $H_{2}=2$. Also $n$-th power of the generating matrix for this generalized Tribonacci sequence is established and some basic properties of this sequence are obtained by matrix methods. There are many elementary formulae relating the various $H_{n}$, most of which, since the sequence is defined inductively, are themselves usually proved by induction.

We present a survey on Weil sums in which an additive character of a finite field $F$ is applied to a binomial whose individual terms (monomials) become permutations of $F$ when regarded as functions. Then we indicate how these Weil sums are used in applications, especially how they characterize the nonlinearity of power permutations and the correlation of linear recursive sequences over finite fields. In these applications, one is interested in the spectrum of Weil sum values that are obtained as the coefficients in the binomial are varied. We review the basic properties of such spectra, and then give a survey of current topics of research: Archimedean and non-Archimedean bounds on the sums, the number of values in the spectrum, and the presence or absence of zero in the spectrum. We indicate some important open problems and discuss progress that has been made on them.

Let $V_{n}$ denote the third order linear recursive sequence defined by the initial values $V_{0}$, $V_{1}$ and $V_{2}$ and the recursion $V_{n}=rV_{n-1}+sV_{n-2}+tV_{n-3}$ if $n\geq 3$, where $r$, $s$, and $t$ are real constants. The $\{V_{n}\}_{n\geq0}$ are generalized Tribonacci numbers and reduce to the usual Tribonacci numbers when $r=s=t=1$ and to the $3$-bonacci numbers when $r=s=1$ and $t=0$. In this study, we introduced a quaternion sequence which has not been introduced before. We show that the new quaternion sequence that we introduced includes the previously introduced Tribonacci, Padovan, Narayana and Third order Jacobsthal quaternion sequences. We obtained the Binet formula, summation formula and the norm value for this new quaternion sequence.
Aperiodic Crosscorrelation of Sequences Derived from Characters

It is shown that pairs of maximal linear recursive sequences (m-sequences) typically have mean square aperiodic crosscorrelation on par with that of random sequences, but that if one takes a pair of m-sequences where one is the reverse of the other, and shifts them appropriately, one can get significantly lower mean square aperiodic crosscorrelation. Sequence pairs with even lower mean square aperiodic crosscorrelation are constructed by taking a Legendre sequence, cyclically shifting it, and then cutting it (approximately) in half and using the halves as the sequences of the pair. In some of these constructions, the mean square aperiodic crosscorrelation can be lowered further if one truncates or periodically extends (appends) the sequences. Exact asymptotic formulae for mean squared aperiodic crosscorrelation are proved for sequences derived from additive characters (including m-sequences and modified versions thereof) and multiplicative characters (including Legendre sequences and their relatives). Data is presented that shows that sequences of modest length have performance that closely approximates the asymptotic formulae.
Low Correlation Sequences from Linear Combinations of Characters

Pairs of binary sequences formed using linear combinations of multiplicative characters of finite fields are exhibited that, when compared to random sequence pairs, simultaneously achieve significantly lower mean square autocorrelation values (for each sequence in the pair) and significantly lower mean square crosscorrelation values. If we define crosscorrelation merit factor analogously to the usual merit factor for autocorrelation, and if we define demerit factor as the reciprocal of merit factor, then randomly selected binary sequence pairs are known to have an average crosscorrelation demerit factor of $1$. Our constructions provide sequence pairs with crosscorrelation demerit factor significantly less than $1$, and at the same time, the autocorrelation demerit factors of the individual sequences can also be made significantly less than $1$ (which also indicates better than average performance). The sequence pairs studied here provide combinations of autocorrelation and crosscorrelation performance that are not achievable using sequences formed from single characters, such as maximal linear recursive sequences (m-sequences) and Legendre sequences. In this study, exact asymptotic formulae are proved for the autocorrelation and crosscorrelation merit factors of sequence pairs formed using linear combinations of multiplicative characters. Data is presented that shows that the asymptotic behavior is closely approximated by sequences of modest length.

In this paper we extend the notion of Melham sum to the Pell and Pell-Lucas sequences. While the proofs of general statements rely on the binomial theorem, we prove some spacial cases by the known Pell identities. We also give extensions of obtained expressions to the other recursive sequences.

We present a method for obtaining congruences modulo powers of a prime number~$p$ for combinatorial sequences whose generating function satisfies an algebraic differential equation. This method generalises the one by Kauers and the authors [Electron. J. Combin. 8(2) (2012), Art. P37; arXiv:1107.2015] from $p=2$ to arbitrary primes. Our applications include congruences for numbers of non-crossing graphs and numbers of Kreweras walks modulo powers of~$3$, as well as congruences for Fuß-Catalan numbers and blossom tree numbers modulo powers of arbitrary primes.

In this paper we present a family of identities for recursive sequences arising from a second order recurrence relation, that gives instances of Zeckendorf representation. We prove these results using a special case of an universal property of the recursive sequences. In particular cases we also establish a direct bijection. Besides, we prove further equalities that provide a representation of the sum of $(r+1)$-st and $(r-1)$-st Fibonacci number as the sum of powers of the golden ratio. Similarly, we show a class of natural numbers represented as the sum of powers of the silver ratio.

We characterise the modular behaviour of (generalised) Apéry number modulo $9$, thereby in particular establishing two conjectures in "A method for determining the mod-$3^k$ behaviour of recursive sequences" [arXiv:1308.2856].
A method for deterining the mod-$3^k$ behaviour of recursive sequences
We present a method for obtaining congruences modulo powers of 3 for sequences given by recurrences of finite depth with polynomial coefficients. We apply this method to Catalan numbers, Motzkin numbers, Riordan numbers, Schröder numbers, Eulerian numbers, trinomial coefficients, Delannoy numbers, and to functions counting free subgroups of finite index in the inhomogeneous modular group and its lifts. This leads to numerous new results, including many extensions of known results to higher powers of 3.

It is shown that the number $f_λ$ of free subgroups of index $6λ$ in the modular group $\PSL_2(\Z)$, when considered modulo a prime power $p^\al$ with $p\ge5$, is always (ultimately) periodic. In fact, an analogous result is established for a one-parameter family of lifts of the modular group (containing $\PSL_2(\Z)$ as a special case), and for a one-parameter family of lifts of the Hecke group $\mathfrak{H}(4)=C_2*C_4$. All this is achieved by explicitly determining Padé approximants to solutions of a certain multi-parameter family of Riccati differential equations. Our main results complement previous work by Kauers and the authors (arXiv:1107.2015 and ["A method for determining the mod-$3^k$ behaviour of recursive sequences"}, preprint]), where it is shown, among other things, that the free subgroup numbers of $\PSL_2(\Z)$ and its lifts display rather complex behaviour modulo powers of 2 and 3.

We present a method to obtain congruences modulo powers of 2 for sequences given by recurrences of finite depth with polynomial coefficients. We apply this method to Catalan numbers, Fuß-Catalan numbers, and to subgroup counting functions associated with Hecke groups and their lifts. This leads to numerous new results, including many extensions of known results to higher powers of 2.
Proof of a Conjecture of Helleseth: Maximal Linear Recursive Sequences of Period $2^{2^n}-1$ Never Have Three-Valued Cross-Correlation
We prove a conjecture of Helleseth that claims that for any $n \geq 0$, a pair of binary maximal linear sequences of period $2^{2^n}-1$ can not have a three-valued cross-correlation function.
The size of random fragmentation trees

We study a random fragmentation process and its associated random tree. The process has earlier been studied by Dean and Majumdar (J. Phys. A: Math. Gen., vol. 35, L501--L507), who found a phase transition: the number of fragmentations is asymptotically normal in some cases but not in others, depending on the position of roots of a certain characteristic equation. This parallels the behaviour of discrete analogues with various random trees that have been studied in computer science. We give rigorous proofs of this phase transition, and add further details.
The proof uses the contraction method. We extend some previous results for recursive sequences of random variables to families of random variables with a continuous parameter; we believe that this extension has independent interest.

Let T be the Pascal-adic transformation. For any measurable function g, we consider the corrections to the ergodic theorem sum_{k=0}^{j-1} g(T^k x) - j/l sum_{k=0}^{l-1} g(T^k x). When seen as graphs of functions defined on {0,...,l-1}, we show for a suitable class of functions g that these quantities, once properly renormalized, converge to (part of) the graph of a self-affine function. The latter only depends on the ergodic component of x, and is a deformation of the so-called Blancmange function. We also briefly describe the links with a series of works on Conway recursive $10,000 sequence.
