Semidefinite programming bounds for distance distribution of spherical codes
Abstract
Multipoint semidefinite programming bounds for spherical codes use polynomials in several variables. We show how to obtain bounds for the distance distribution using a polynomial of one variable on a prescribed interval. The multivariate SDP supplies the required positivity; the sign and size of the univariate polynomial reveal the geometric consequences. We prove three- and four-point reductions and explain how to choose the polynomial to bound the number of pairs in a prescribed interval. Three-point experiments in dimension four illustrate this procedure, including nearly antipodal pairs, intervals near inner product $1/2$, and a local approach to the kissing number bound. As a further application, we extract a degree-six polynomial from the exact four-point construction of de Laat, Leijenhorst, and de Muinck Keizer. Its sign and four zeros give a direct description of the distance restriction underlying uniqueness of the $24$-cell.
