An oriented tree $T$ on $n$ vertices is unavoidable if every tournament on $n$ vertices contains a copy of $T$. In this paper we give a sufficient condition for $T$ to be unavoidable, and use this to prove that almost all labelled oriented trees are unavoidable, verifying a conjecture of Bender and Wormald. We additionally prove that every tournament on $n + o(n)$ vertices contains a copy of every oriented tree $T$ on $n$ vertices with polylogarithmic maximum degree, improving a result of Kühn, Mycroft and Osthus.

Let $\mathcal{F}$ be an $r$-uniform hypergraph and $G$ be a multigraph. The hypergraph $\mathcal{F}$ is a Berge-$G$ if there is a bijection $f: E(G) \rightarrow E( \mathcal{F} )$ such that $e \subseteq f(e)$ for each $e \in E(G)$. Given a family of multigraphs $\mathcal{G}$, a hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ is said to be $\mathcal{G}$-free if for each $G \in \mathcal{G}$, $\mathcal{H}$ does not contain a subhypergraph that is isomorphic to a Berge-$G$. We prove bounds on the maximum number of edges in an $r$-uniform linear hypergraph that is $K_{2,t}$-free. We also determine an asymptotic formula for the maximum number of edges in a linear 3-uniform 3-partite hypergraph that is $\{C_3 , K_{2,3} \}$-free.
On the Erdös flat polynomials problem, Chowla conjecture and Riemann Hypothesis
There are no square $L^2$-flat sequences of polynomials of the type
$$\frac{1}{\sqrt q}( ε_0 + ε_1z + ε_2z^2 + \cdots + ε_{q-2}z^{q-2} +ε_q z^{q-1}),$$ where for each $j,~~ 0 \leq j\leq q-1,~ε_j = \pm 1$. It follows that Erdös's conjectures on Littlewood polynomials hold. Consequently, Turyn-Golay's conjecture is true, that is, there are only finitely many Barker sequences. We further get that the spectrum of dynamical systems arising from continuous Morse sequences is singular. This settles an old question due to M. Keane. Applying our reasoning to the Liouville function we obtain that the popular Chowla conjecture on the %Bernouillicity normality of the Liouville function implies Riemann hypothesis.
The edge Folkman number $F_e(3, 3; 4)$ is greater than 19

The set of the graphs which do not contain the complete graph on $q$ vertices $K_q$ and have the property that in every coloring of their edges in two colors there exist a monochromatic triangle is denoted by $\mathcal{H}_e(3, 3; q)$. The edge Folkman numbers $F_e(3, 3; q) = \min\{|V(G)| : G \in \mathcal{H}_e(3, 3; q)\}$ are considered. Folkman proved in 1970 that $F_e(3, 3; q)$ exists if and only if $q \geq 4$. From the Ramsey number $R(3, 3) = 6$ it becomes clear that $F_e(3, 3; q) = 6$ if $q \geq 7$. It is also known that $F_e(3, 3; 6) = 8$ and $F_e(3, 3; 5) = 15$. The upper bounds on the number $F_e(3, 3; 4)$ which follow from the construction of Folkman and from the constructions of some other authors are not good. In 1975 Erdos posed the problem to prove the inequality $F_e(3, 3; 4) < 10^{10}$. This Erdos problem was solved by Spencer in 1978. The last upper bound on $F_e(3, 3; 4)$ was obtained in 2012 by Lange, Radziszowski and Xu, who proved that $F_e(3, 3; 4) \leq 786$. The best lower bound on this number is 19 and was obtained 10 years ago by Radziszowski and Xu. In this paper, we improve this result by proving $F_e(3, 3; 4) \geq 20$. At the end of the paper, we improve the known bounds on the vertex Folkman number $F_v(2, 3, 3; 4)$ by proving $20 \leq F_v(2, 3, 3; 4) \leq 24$.
A proof of the $4$-variable Catalan polynomial of the Delta conjecture

In The Delta Conjecture (arxiv:1509.07058), Haglund, Remmel and Wilson introduced a four variable $q,t,z,w$ Catalan polynomial, so named because the specialization of this polynomial at the values $(q,t,z,w) = (1,1,0,0)$ is equal to the Catalan number $\frac{1}{n+1}\binom{2n}{n}$. We prove the compositional version of this conjecture (which implies the non-compositional version) that states that the coefficient of $s_{r,1^{n-r}}$ in the expression $Δ_{h_\ell} \nabla C_α$ is equal to a weighted sum over decorated Dyck paths.

In this paper, we describe a class of elements in the ring of $\mathrm{SL}(V)$-invariant polynomial functions on the space of configurations of vectors and linear forms of a 3-dimensional vector space $V.$ These elements are related to one another by an induction formula using Chebyshev polynomials. We also investigate the relation between these polynomials and G. Lusztig's dual canonical basis in tensor products of representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_3(\mathbb C)).$
On open and closed convex codes

Neural codes serve as a language for neurons in the brain. Convex codes, which arise from the pattern of intersections of convex sets in Euclidean space, are of particular relevance to neuroscience. Not every code is convex, however, and the combinatorial properties of a code that determine its convexity are still poorly understood. Here we find that a code that can be realized by a collection of open convex sets may or may not be realizable by closed convex sets, and vice versa, establishing that open convex and closed convex codes are distinct classes. We also prove that max intersection-complete codes (i.e. codes that contain all intersections of maximal codewords) are both open convex and closed convex, and provide an upper bound for their minimal embedding dimension. Finally, we show that the addition of non-maximal codewords to an open convex code preserves convexity.

We introduce the quasi-key basis of the polynomial ring. We prove this basis contains the quasi-Schur polynomials of of Haglund, Luoto, Mason and van Willigenburg and that stable limits of quasi-key polynomials are quasi-Schur functions, thus giving a lifting of the quasi-Schur basis of quasisymmetric polynomials to the full polynomial ring. We introduce the combinatorial model of Kohnert tableaux, and use this model to prove that key polynomials expand positively in quasi-key polynomials which in turn expand positively in the fundamental slide polynomials introduced earlier by the authors. We give simple combinatorial formulas for these expansions in terms of Kohnert tableaux, lifting the parallel expansions of a Schur function into quasi-Schur functions into fundamental quasisymmetric functions. We further utilize Kohnert tableaux to find the precise point at which the fundamental slide expansion of a key polynomial stabilizes.

An internal coproduct is described, which is compatible with Hoffman's quasi-shuffle product. Hoffman's quasi-shuffle Hopf algebra, with deconcatenation coproduct, is a comodule-Hopf algebra over the bialgebra thus defined. The relation with J. Ecalle's mould calculus, i.e. mould composition and contracting arborification, is precised.

We provide a classification of multiplicity-free inner tensor products of irreducible characters of symmetric groups, thus confirming a conjecture of Bessenrodt. Concurrently, we classify all multiplicity-free inner tensor products of skew characters of the symmetric groups. We also provide formulae for calculating the decomposition of these tensor products.

A signed graph is a graph $G$ associated with a mapping $σ: E(G)\to \{-1,+1\}$, denoted by $(G,σ)$. A $cycle$ of $(G,σ)$ is a connected 2-regular subgraph. A cycle $C$ is $positive$ if it has an even number of negative edges, and negative otherwise. A $circuit$ of of a signed graph $(G,σ)$ is a positive cycle or a barbell consisting of two edge-disjoint negative cycles joined by a path. The definition of a circuit of signed graph comes from the signed-graphic matroid. A circuit cover of $(G,σ)$ is a family of circuits covering all edges of $(G,σ)$. A circuit cover with the smallest total length is called a shortest circuit cover of $(G,σ)$ and its length is denoted by $\text{scc}(G,σ)$. Bouchet proved that a signed graph with a circuit cover if and only if it is flow-admissible (i.e., has a nowhere-zero integer flow). Máčajová et. al. show that a 2-edge-connected signed graph $(G,σ)$ has $\text{scc}(G,σ)\le 9 |E(G)|$ if it is flow-admissible. This bound was improved recently by Cheng et. al. to $\text{scc}(G,σ) \le 11|E(G)|/3$ for 2-edge-connected signed graphs with even negativeness, and particularly, $\text{scc}(G,σ)\le 3|E(G)|+ε(G,σ)/3$ for 2-edge-connected cubic signed graphs with even negativeness (where $ε(G,σ)$ is the negativeness of $(G,σ)$). In this paper, we show that every 2-edge-connected cubic signed graph has $\text{scc}(G,σ)\le 26|E(G)|/9$ if it is flow-admissible, and $\text{scc}(G,σ)\le 23|E(G)|/9$ if it has even negativeness.
Enumeration of Hybrid Domino-Lozenge Tilings III: Centrally Symmetric Tilings
We use the subgraph replacement method to investigate new properties of the tilings of regions on the square lattice with diagonals drawn in. In particular, we show that the centrally symmetric tilings of a generalization of the Aztec diamond are always enumerated by a simple product formula. This result generalizes the previous work of Ciucu (1997) and Yang (1992) about symmetric tilings of the Aztec diamond. We also use our method to prove a closed-form product formula for the number of centrally symmetric tilings of a quasi-hexagon.

A submodule of a $\mathbb{Z}$-module determines a coloring of the module where each coset of the submodule is associated to a unique color. Given a submodule coloring of a $\mathbb{Z}$-module, the group formed by the symmetries of the module that induces a permutation of colors is referred to as the color group of the coloring. In this contribution, a method to solve for the color groups of colorings of $N$-planar modules where $N=4$ and $N=6$ are given. Examples of colorings of rectangular lattices and of the vertices of the Ammann-Beenker tiling are given to exhibit how these methods may be extended to the general case.

Let $Φ$ be an irreducible crystallographic root system with Weyl group $W$, coroot lattice $\check{Q}$ and Coxeter number $h$. Recently the second named author defined a uniform $W$-isomorphism $ζ$ between the finite torus $\check{Q}/(mh+1)\check{Q}$ and the set of non-nesting parking fuctions $\operatorname{Park}^{(m)}(Φ)$. If $Φ$ is of type $A_{n-1}$ and $m=1$ this map is equivalent to a map defined on labelled Dyck paths that arises in the study of the Hilbert series of the space of diagonal harmonics.
In this paper we investigate the case $m=1$ for the other infinite families of root systems ($B_n$, $C_n$ and $D_n$). In each type we define models for the finite torus and for the set of non-nesting parking functions in terms of labelled lattice paths. The map $ζ$ can then be viewed as a map between these combinatorial objects. Our work entails new bijections between (square) lattice paths and ballot paths.

In this paper we study those bent functions which are linear on elements of spreads, their connections with ovals and line ovals, and we give descriptions of their dual bent functions. In particular, we give a geometric characterization of Niho bent functions and of their duals, we give explicit formula for the dual bent function and present direct connections with ovals and line ovals. We also show that bent functions which are linear on elements of inequivalent spreads can be EA-equivalent.

Lower Bounds on Words Separation: Are There Short Identities in Transformation Semigroups?

The words separation problem, originally formulated by Goralcik and Koubek (1986), is stated as follows. Let $Sep(n)$ be the minimum number such that for any two words of length $\le n$ there is a deterministic finite automaton with $Sep(n)$ states, accepting exactly one of them. The problem is to find the asymptotics of the function $Sep$. This problem is inverse to finding the asymptotics of the length of the shortest identity in full transformation semigroups $T_k$. The known lower bound on $Sep$ stems from the unary identity in $T_k$. We find the first series of identities in $T_k$ which are shorter than the corresponding unary identity for infinitely many values of $k$, and thus slightly improve the lower bound on $Sep(n)$. Then we present some short positive identities in symmetric groups, improving the lower bound on separating words by permutational automata by a multiplicative constant. Finally, we present the results of computer search for short identities for small $k$.
The Gaussian coefficient revisited

We give a new $q$-$(1+q)$-analogue of the Gaussian coefficient, also known as the $q$-binomial which, like the original $q$-binomial $\genfrac{[}{]}{0pt}{}{n}{k}_{q}$, is symmetric in $k$ and $n-k$. We show this $q$-$(1+q)$-binomial is more compact than the one discovered by Fu, Reiner, Stanton and Thiem. Underlying our $q$-$(1+q)$-analogue is a Boolean algebra decomposition of an associated poset. These ideas are extended to the Birkhoff transform of any finite poset. We end with a discussion of higher analogues of the $q$-binomial.
Duality for image and kernel partition regularity of infinite matrices

A matrix A is image partition regular over Q provided that whenever Q - {0} is finitely coloured, there is a vector x with entries in Q - {0} such that the entries of Ax are monochromatic. It is kernel partition regular over Q provided that whenever Q - {0} is finitely coloured, the matrix has a monochromatic member of its kernel. We establish a duality for these notions valid for both finite and infinite matrices. We also investigate the extent to which this duality holds for matrices partition regular over proper subsemigroups of Q.
Latin squares with no transversals

A $k$-plex in a latin square of order $n$ is a selection of $kn$ entries that includes $k$ representatives from each row and column and $k$ occurrences of each symbol. A $1$-plex is also known as a transversal.
It is well known that if $n$ is even then $B_n$, the addition table for the integers modulo $n$, possesses no transversals. We show that there are a great many latin squares that are similar to $B_n$ and have no transversal. As a consequence, the number of species of transversal-free latin squares is shown to be at least $n^{n^{3/2}(1/2-o(1))}$ for even $n\rightarrow\infty$.
We also produce various constructions for latin squares that have no transversal but do have a $k$-plex for some odd $k>1$. We prove a 2002 conjecture of the second author that for all even orders $n>4$ there is a latin square of order $n$ that contains a $3$-plex but no transversal. We also show that for odd $k$ and $m\geq 2$, there exists a latin square of order $2km$ with a $k$-plex but no $k'$-plex for odd $k'<k$.
