We present the matrix models that are the generating functions for branched covers of the complex projective line ramified over $0$, $1$, and $\infty$ (Grotendieck's dessins d'enfants) of fixed genus, degree, and the ramification profile at infinity. For general ramifications at other points, the model is the two-logarithm matrix model with the external field studied previously by one of the authors (L.Ch.) and K.Palamarchuk. It lies in the class of the generalised Kontsevich models (GKM) thus being the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy $τ$-function and, upon the shift of times, this model is equivalent to a Hermitian one-matrix model with a general potential whose coefficients are related to the KP times by a Miwa-type transformation. The original model therefore enjoys a topological recursion and can be solved in terms of shifted moments of the standard Hermitian one-matrix model at all genera of the topological expansion. We also derive the matrix model for clean Belyi morphisms, which turns out to be the Kontsevich--Penner model introduced by the authors and Yu. Makeenko. Its partition function is also a KP hierarchy tau function, and this model is in turn equivalent to a Hermitian one-matrix model with a general potential. Finally we prove that the generating function for general two-profile Belyi morphisms is a GKM thus proving that it is also a KP hierarchy tau function in proper times.
Incidences of lines in $P^3$ and the arithmetic genus of curves
Guth and Katz proved that, as conjectured by Elekes and Sharir, $m$ lines in 3-space have at most constant times $ m^{3/2}$ intersection points, aside from some obvious counter examples. We give an explicit bound for the constant, using the arithmetic genus of the union of the lines.
K-theoretic Poirier-Reutenauer bialgebra
We use the K-Knuth equivalence of Buch and Samuel to define a K-theoretic analogue of the Poirier-Reutenauer Hopf algebra. As an application, we rederive the K-theoretic Littlewood-Richardson rules of Thomas and Yong and of Buch and Samuel.

In this paper we investigate the connectedness and the isomorphism problems for zig-zag products of two graphs. A sufficient condition for the zig-zag product of two graphs to be connected is provided, reducing to the study of the connectedness property of a new graph which depends only on the second factor of the graph product. We show that, when the second factor is a cycle graph, the study of the isomorphism problem for the zig-zag product is equivalent to the study of the same problem for the associated pseudo-replacement graph. The latter is defined in a natural way, by a construction generalizing the classical replacement product, and its degree is smaller than the degree of the zig-zag product graph.
Two particular classes of products are studied in detail: the zig-zag product of a complete graph with a cycle graph, and the zig-zag product of a $4$-regular graph with the cycle graph of length $4$. Furthermore, an example coming from the theory of Schreier graphs associated with the action of self-similar groups is also considered: the graph products are completely determined and their spectral analysis is developed.

The class of $\left(\binom{n+1}{2}_{n-1} \binom{n+1}{3}_3\right)$-configurations which contain at least $n-2$ $K_n$-graphs coincides with the class of so called systems of triangle perspectives i.e. of configurations which contain a bundle of $n-2$ Pasch configurations with a common line. For $n=5$ the class consists of all binomial partial Steiner triple systems on $15$ points, that contain at least three $K_5$-graphs. In this case a complete classification of respective configurations is given and their automorphisms are determined.
The Cox, Clifford, Möbius, Miquel, and other related configurations and their generalizations
The realizability of countable Cox configurations on Miquelian planes is proved. A simple way to determine the automorphisms of the Cox configurations is presented.

We study intersection numbers of invariant divisors in the toric manifold associated with the fan determined by the collection of Weyl chambers for each root system of classical type and of exceptional type $G_2$. We give a combinatorial formula for intersection numbers of certain subvarieties which are naturally indexed by elements of the Weyl group. These numbers describe the ring structure of the cohomology of the toric manifold.

Let $\mathcal D=(Ω, \mathcal B)$ be a pair of $v$ point set $Ω$ and a set $\mathcal B$ consists of $k$ point subsets of $Ω$ which are called blocks. Let $d$ be the maximal cardinality of the intersections between the distinct two blocks in $\mathcal B$. The triple $(v,k,d)$ is called the parameter of $\mathcal B$. Let $b$ be the number of the blocks in $\mathcal B$. It is shown that inequality ${v\choose d+2i-1}\geq b\{{k\choose d+2i-1} +{k\choose d+2i-2}{v-k\choose 1}+....$ $.+{k\choose d+i}{v-k\choose i-1} \}$ holds for each $i$ satisfying $1\leq i\leq k-d$, in the paper: Some Bounds for the Number of Blocks, Europ. J. Combinatorics 22 (2001), 91--94, by R. Noda. If $b$ achieves the upper bound, $\mathcal D$ is called a $β(i)$ design. In the paper, an upper bound and a lower bound, $ \frac{(d+2i)(k-d)}{i}\leq v \leq \frac{(d+2(i-1))(k-d)}{i-1} $, for $v$ of a $β(i)$ design $\mathcal D$ are given. In the present paper we consider the cases when $v$ does not achieve the upper bound or lower bound given above, and get new more strict bounds for $v$ respectively. We apply this bound to the problem of the perfect $e$-codes in the Johnson scheme, and improve the bound given by Roos in 1983.

One of the purposes of this paper is to clarify the strong analogy between potential theory on the open unit disk and the homogeneous tree, to which we dedicate an introductory section. We then exemplify this analogy by a study of Riesz measures. Starting from interesting work by Favorov and Golinskii [A Blaschke-type condition for analytic and subharmonic functions and application to contraction operators. Linear and complex analysis, pp. 37-47, Amer. Math. Soc. Transl. (2) 226, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 2009], we consider subharmonic functions on the open unit disk, resp. on the homogenous tree. Supposing that we can control the way how those functions may tend to infinity at the boundary, we derive moment type conditions for the Riesz measures. One one hand, we generalise the previous results for the disk, and on the other hand, we show how to obtain analogous results in the discrete setting of the tree.
A Polyhedral Proof of the Matrix Tree Theorem
The classical matrix tree theorem relates the number of spanning trees of a connected graph with the product of the nonzero eigenvalues of its Laplacian matrix. The class of regular matroids generalizes that of graphical matroids, and a generalization of the matrix tree theorem holds for this wider class.
We give a new, geometric proof of this fact by showing via a dissect-and-rearrange argument that two combinatorially distinct zonotopes associated to a regular matroid have the same volume. Along the way we prove that for a regular oriented matroid represented by a unimodular matrix, the lattice spanned by its cocircuits coincides with the lattice spanned by the rows of the representation matrix.
Finally, by extending our setup to the weighted case we give new proofs of recent results of An et al. on weighted graphs, and extend them to cover regular matroids.
No use is made of the Cauchy-Binet Theorem nor divisor theory on graphs.
A generalization of the problem of Mariusz Meszka

Mariusz Meszka has conjectured that given a prime p=2n+1 and a list L containing n positive integers not exceeding n there exists a near 1-factor in K_p whose list of edge-lengths is L. In this paper we propose a generalization of this problem to the case in which p is an odd integer not necessarily prime. In particular, we give a necessary condition for the existence of such a near 1-factor for any odd integer p. We show that this condition is also sufficient for any list L whose underlying set S has size 1, 2, or n. Then we prove that the conjecture is true if S={1,2,t} for any positive integer t not coprime with the order p of the complete graph. Also, we give partial results when t and p are coprime. Finally, we present a complete solution for t<12.
On-line Ramsey numbers of paths and cycles

Consider a game played on the edge set of the infinite clique by two players, Builder and Painter. In each round, Builder chooses an edge and Painter colours it red or blue. Builder wins by creating either a red copy of $G$ or a blue copy of $H$ for some fixed graphs $G$ and $H$. The minimum number of rounds within which Builder can win, assuming both players play perfectly, is the on-line Ramsey number $\tilde{r}(G,H)$. In this paper, we consider the case where $G$ is a path $P_k$. We prove that $\tilde{r}(P_3, P_{\ell+1}) = \lceil 5\ell/4 \rceil = \tilde{r}(P_3, C_\ell)$ for all $\ell \ge 5$, and determine $\tilde{r}(P_4, P_{\ell+1}$) up to an additive constant for all $\ell \ge 3$. We also prove some general lower bounds for on-line Ramsey numbers of the form $\tilde{r}(P_{k+1},H)$.

We show that the 2-abelian complexity of the infinite Thue-Morse word is 2-regular, and other properties of the 2-abelian complexity, most notably that it is a concatenation of palindromes of increasing length. We also show sharp bounds for the length of unique extensions of factors of size n, occurring in the Thue-Morse word.
TASEP and Planar Binary Trees: A Combinatorial Approach
We give a simple explanation why the stationary state of the 1D TASEP model with open boundaries is related to the Catalan numbers. Our construction is based on planar binary trees and provides a combinatorial solution of the stationary state. We discuss the relation to Catalan tableaux approaches in an appendix.

Finding a hidden partition in a random environment is a general and important problem, which contains as subproblems many famous questions, such as finding a hidden clique, finding a hidden coloring, finding a hidden bipartition etc.
In this paper, we provide a simple SVD algorithm for this purpose, answering a question of McSherry. This algorithm is very easy to implement and works for sparse graphs with optimal density.
The centre of the extended Haagerup subfactor has 22 simple objects

We explain a technique for discovering the number of simple objects in $Z(C)$, the center of a fusion category $C$, as well as the combinatorial data of the induction and restriction functors at the level of Grothendieck rings. The only input is the fusion ring $K(C)$ and the dimension function $K(C) \to \mathbb{C}$.
The method is not guaranteed to succeed (it may give spurious answers besides the correct one, or it may simply take too much computer time), but it seems it often does. We illustrate by showing that there are 22 simple objects in the center of the extended Haagerup subfactor [arXiv:0909.4099].

In this paper we consider the concept of preintersection numbers of a graph. These numbers are determined by the spectrum of the adjacency matrix of the graph, and generalize the intersection numbers of a distance-regular graph. By using the preintersection numbers we give some new spectral and quasi-spectral characterizations of distance-regularity, in particular for graphs with large girth or large odd-girth.

In this article, we extend the definition of Christoffel words to directed subgraphs of the hypercubic lattice in arbitrary dimension that we call Christoffel graphs. Christoffel graphs when $d=2$ correspond to well-known Christoffel words. Due to periodicity, the $d$-dimensional Christoffel graph can be embedded in a $(d-1)$-torus (a parallelogram when $d=3$). We show that Christoffel graphs have similar properties to those of Christoffel words: symmetry of their central part and conjugation with their reversal. Our main result extends Pirillo's theorem (characterization of Christoffel words which asserts that a word $amb$ is a Christoffel word if and only if it is conjugate to $bma$) in arbitrary dimension. In the generalization, the map $amb\mapsto bma$ is seen as a flip operation on graphs embedded in $\mathbb{Z}^d$ and the conjugation is a translation. We show that a fully periodic subgraph of the hypercubic lattice is a translate of its flip if and only if it is a Christoffel graph.
A new record for $1324$-avoiding permutations

Binomial partial Steiner triple systems containing complete graphs
We propose a new approach to studies on partial Steiner triple systems consisting in determining complete graphs contained in them. We establish the structure which complete graphs yield in a minimal PSTS that contains them. As a by-product we introduce the notion of a binomial PSTS as a configuration with parameters of a minimal PSTS with a complete subgraph. A representation of binomial PSTS with at least a given number of its maximal complete subgraphs is given in terms of systems of perspectives. Finally, we prove that for each admissible integer there is a binomial PSTS with this number of maximal complete subgraphs.
