Bermond and Thomassen conjectured that every digraph with minimum outdegree at least $2k-1$ contains $k$ vertex disjoint cycles. So far the conjecture was verified for $k\le 3$. Here we generalise the question asking for all outdegree sequences which force $k$ vertex disjoint cycles and give the full answer for $k\le 2$.

The feasible region of induced graphs

The feasible region $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ of a graph $F$ is the collection of points $(x,y)$ in the unit square such that there exists a sequence of graphs whose edge densities approach $x$ and whose induced $F$-densities approach $y$. A complete description of $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ is not known for any $F$ with at least four vertices that is not a clique or an independent set. The feasible region provides a lot of combinatorial information about $F$. For example, the supremum of $y$ over all $(x,y)\in Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ is the inducibility of $F$ and $Ω_{\rm ind}(K_r)$ yields the Kruskal-Katona and clique density theorems.
We begin a systematic study of $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ by proving some general statements about the shape of $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ and giving results for some specific graphs $F$. Many of our theorems apply to the more general setting of quantum graphs. For example, we prove a bound for quantum graphs that generalizes an old result of Bollobás for the number of cliques in a graph with given edge density. We also consider the problems of determining $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ when $F=K_r^-$, $F$ is a star, or $F$ is a complete bipartite graph. In the case of $K_r^-$ our results sharpen those predicted by the edge-statistics conjecture of Alon et. al. while also extending a theorem of Hirst for $K_4^-$ that was proved using computer aided techniques and flag algebras. The case of the 4-cycle seems particularly interesting and we conjecture that $Ω_{\rm ind}(C_4)$ is determined by the solution to the triangle density problem, which has been solved by Razborov.
A unified approach to hypergraph stability

We present a method which provides a unified framework for most stability theorems that have been proved in graph and hypergraph theory. Our main result reduces stability for a large class of hypergraph problems to the simpler question of checking that a hypergraph $\mathcal H$ with large minimum degree that omits the forbidden structures is vertex-extendable. This means that if $v$ is a vertex of $\mathcal H$ and ${\mathcal H} -v$ is a subgraph of the extremal configuration(s), then $\mathcal H$ is also a subgraph of the extremal configuration(s). In many cases vertex-extendability is quite easy to verify.
We illustrate our approach by giving new short proofs of hypergraph stability results of Pikhurko, Hefetz-Keevash, Brandt-Irwin-Jiang, Bene Watts-Norin-Yepremyan and others. Since our method always yields minimum degree stability, which is the strongest form of stability, in some of these cases our stability results are stronger than what was known earlier. Along the way, we clarify the different notions of stability that have been previously studied.
Geometric constructions for Ramsey-Turán theory

Combining two classical notions in extremal combinatorics, the study of Ramsey-Turán theory seeks to determine, for integers $m\le n$ and $p \leq q$, the number $\mathsf{RT}_p(n,K_q,m)$, which is the maximum size of an $n$-vertex $K_q$-free graph in which every set of at least $m$ vertices contains a $K_p$.
Two major open problems in this area from the 80s ask: (1) whether the asymptotic extremal structure for the general case exhibits certain periodic behaviour, resembling that of the special case when $p=2$; (2) constructing analogues of Bollobás-Erdős graphs with densities other than $1/2$.
We refute the first conjecture by witnessing asymptotic extremal structures that are drastically different from the $p=2$ case, and address the second problem by constructing Bollobás-Erdős-type graphs using high dimensional complex spheres with all rational densities. Some matching upper bounds are also provided.
Hypergraphs with many extremal configurations

For every positive integer $t$ we construct a finite family of triple systems ${\mathcal M}_t$, determine its Turán number, and show that there are $t$ extremal ${\mathcal M}_t$-free configurations that are far from each other in edit-distance. We also prove a strong stability theorem: every ${\mathcal M}_t$-free triple system whose size is close to the maximum size is a subgraph of one of these $t$ extremal configurations after removing a small proportion of vertices. This is the first stability theorem for a hypergraph problem with an arbitrary (finite) number of extremal configurations. Moreover, the extremal hypergraphs have very different shadow sizes (unlike the case of the famous Turán tetrahedron conjecture). Hence a corollary of our main result is that the boundary of the feasible region of ${\mathcal M}_t$ has exactly $t$ global maxima.

For integers $k\ge 2$ and $N\ge 2k+1$ there are $k!2^k$ canonical orderings of the edges of the complete $k$-uniform hypergraph with vertex set $[N] = \{1,2,\dots, N\}$. These are exactly the orderings with the property that any two subsets $A, B\subseteq [N]$ of the same size induce isomorphic suborderings. We study the associated canonisation problem to estimate, given $k$ and $n$, the least integer $N$ such that no matter how the $k$-subsets of $[N]$ are ordered there always exists an $n$-element set $X\subseteq [N]$ whose $k$-subsets are ordered canonically. For fixed $k$ we prove lower and upper bounds on these numbers that are $k$ times iterated exponential in a polynomial of $n$.
Sandwiching biregular random graphs
Let $G(n,n,m)$ be a uniformly random $m$-edge subgraph of the complete bipartite graph $K_{n,n}$ with bipartition $(V_1, V_2)$, where $n_i = |V_i|$. Given a real number $p \in [0,1]$ such that $d_1 := pn_2$ and $d_2 := pn_1$ are integers, let $R(n,n,p)$ be a random subgraph of $K_{n,n}$ such that every $v \in V_i$ has degree $d_i$, for $i = 1, 2$. In this paper we determine sufficient conditions on $n_1,n_2,p$, and $m$ under which one can embed $G(n,n,m)$ into $R(n,n,p)$ and vice versa with probability tending to $1$. In particular, in the balanced case $n_1 = n_2$, we show that if $p \gg \log n/n$ and $1 - p \gg \left(\log n/n \right)^{1/4}$, then for some $m \sim pn^2$, asymptotically almost surely one can embed $G(n,n,m)$ into $R(n,n,p)$, while for $p \gg \left(\log^{3} n/n\right)^{1/4}$ and $1-p \gg \log n/n$ we have the opposite embedding. As an extension, we confirm the Kim--Vu Sandwich Conjecture for degrees growing faster than $(n \log n)^{3/4}$.

We show that every $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices whose minimum $(k-2)$-degree is at least $(5/9+o(1))n^2/2$ contains a Hamiltonian cycle. A construction due to Han and Zhao shows that this minimum degree condition is optimal. The same result was proved independently by Lang and Sahueza-Matamala.

We investigate the existence of powers of Hamiltonian cycles in graphs with large minimum degree to which some additional edges have been added in a random manner. For all integers $k\geq1$, $r\geq 0$, and $\ell\geq (r+1)r$, and for any $α>\frac{k}{k+1}$ we show that adding $O(n^{2-2/\ell})$ random edges to an $n$-vertex graph $G$ with minimum degree at least $αn$ yields, with probability close to one, the existence of the $(k\ell+r)$-th power of a Hamiltonian cycle. In particular, for $r=1$ and $\ell=2$ this implies that adding $O(n)$ random edges to such a graph $G$ already ensures the $(2k+1)$-st power of a Hamiltonian cycle (proved independently by Nenadov and Trujić). In this instance and for several other choices of $k$, $\ell$, and $r$ we can show that our result is asymptotically optimal.

Given positive integers $n\ge s$, we let ${\mathrm{ex}}(n,s)$ denote the maximum number of edges in a triangle-free graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with $α(G)\le s$. In the early sixties Andrásfai conjectured that for $n/3<s<n/2$ the function ${\mathrm{ex}}(n, s)$ is piecewise quadratic with critical values at $s/n={k}/({3k-1})$. We confirm that this is indeed the case whenever $s/n$ is slightly larger than a critical value, thus determining ${\mathrm{ex}}(n,s)$ for all $n$ and $s$ such that $s/n\in [{k}/({3k-1}), {k}/({3k-1})+γ_k]$, where $γ_k=Θ(k^{-6})$.

One of the oldest results in modern graph theory, due to Mantel, asserts that every triangle-free graphs on $n$ vertices has at most $\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor$ edges. About half a century later Andrásfai studied dense triangle-free graphs and proved that the largest triangle-free graphs on $n$ vertices without independent sets of size $αn$, where $2/5\le α< 1/2$, are blow-ups of the pentagon. More than 50 further years have elapsed since Andrásfai's work. In this article we make the next step towards understanding the structure of dense triangle-free graphs without large independent sets.
Notably, we determine the maximum size of triangle-free graphs~$G$ on $n$ vertices with $α(G)\ge 3n/8$ and state a conjecture on the structure of the densest triangle-free graphs $G$ with $α(G) > n/3$. We remark that the case $α(G) \le n/3$ behaves differently, but due to the work of Brandt this situation is fairly well understood.

We consider sufficient conditions for the existence of $k$-th powers of Hamiltonian cycles in $n$-vertex graphs $G$ with minimum degree $μn$ for arbitrarily small $μ>0$. About 20 years ago Komlós, Sarközy, and Szemerédi resolved the conjectures of Pósa and Seymour and obtained optimal minimum degree conditions for this problem by showing that $μ=\frac{k}{k+1}$ suffices for large $n$. For smaller values of $μ$ the given graph $G$ must satisfy additional assumptions. We show that inducing subgraphs of density $d>0$ on linear subsets of vertices and being inseparable, in the sense that every cut has density at least $μ>0$, are sufficient assumptions for this problem and, in fact, for a variant of the bandwidth theorem. This generalises recent results of Staden and Treglown.
Extremal problems in uniformly dense hypergraphs

For a $k$-uniform hypergraph $F$ let $\textrm{ex}(n,F)$ be the maximum number of edges of a $k$-uniform $n$-vertex hypergraph $H$ which contains no copy of $F$. Determining or estimating $\textrm{ex}(n,F)$ is a classical and central problem in extremal combinatorics. While for graphs ($k=2$) this problem is well understood, due to the work of Mantel, Turán, Erdős, Stone, Simonovits and many others, only very little is known for $k$-uniform hypergraphs for $k>2$. Already the case when $F$ is a $k$-uniform hypergraph with three edges on $k+1$ vertices is still wide open even for $k=3$.
We consider variants of such problems where the large hypergraph $H$ enjoys additional hereditary density conditions. Questions of this type were suggested by Erdős and Sós about 30 years ago. In recent work with Rödl and Schacht it turned out that the regularity method for hypergraphs, established by Gowers and by Rödl et al. about a decade ago, is a suitable tool for extremal problems of this type and we shall discuss some of those recent results and some interesting open problems in this area.
Projection inequalities for antichains

A set $A \subseteq {\mathbb{R}}^n$ is called an antichain (resp. antichain) if it does not contain two distinct elements ${\mathbf x}=(x_1,\ldots, x_n)$ and ${\mathbf y}=(y_1,\ldots, y_n)$ satisfying $x_i\le y_i$ (resp. $x_i < y_i$) for all $i\in \{1,\ldots,n\}$. We show that the Hausdorff dimension of a weak antichain $A$ in the $n$-dimensional unit cube $[0,1]^n$ is at most $n-1$ and that the $(n-1)$-dimensional Hausdorff measure of $A$ is at most $n$, which are the best possible bounds. This result is derived as a corollary of the following {\it projection inequality}, which may be of independent interest: The $(n-1)$-dimensional Hausdorff measure of a (weak) antichain $A\subseteq [0, 1]^n$ cannot exceed the sum of the $(n-1)$-dimensional Hausdorff measures of the $n$ orthogonal projections of $A$ onto the facets of the unit $n$-cube containing the origin. For the proof of this result we establish a discrete variant of the projection inequality applicable to weak antichains in ${\mathbb Z}^n$ and combine it with ideas from geometric measure theory.

We study the existence of powers of Hamiltonian cycles in graphs with large minimum degree to which some additional edges have been added in a random manner. It follows from the theorems of Dirac and of Komlós, Sarközy, and Szemerédi that for every $k\geq 1$ and sufficiently large $n$ already the minimum degree $δ(G)\ge\tfrac{k}{k+1}n$ for an $n$-vertex graph $G$ alone suffices to ensure the existence of a $k$-th power of a Hamiltonian cycle. Here we show that under essentially the same degree assumption the addition of just $O(n)$ random edges ensures the presence of the $(k+1)$-st power of a Hamiltonian cycle with probability close to one.

Confirming a conjecture of Vera T. Sós in a very strong sense, we give a complete solution to Turán's hypergraph problem for the Fano plane. That is we prove for $n\ge 8$ that among all $3$-uniform hypergraphs on $n$ vertices not containing the Fano plane there is indeed exactly one whose number of edges is maximal, namely the balanced, complete, bipartite hypergraph. Moreover, for $n=7$ there is exactly one other extremal configuration with the same number of edges: the hypergraph arising from a clique of order $7$ by removing all five edges containing a fixed pair of vertices.
For sufficiently large values $n$ this was proved earlier by Füredi and Simonovits, and by Keevash and Sudakov, who utilised the stability method.

We show that every $3$-uniform hypergraph $H=(V,E)$ with $|V(H)|=n$ and minimum pair degree at least $(4/5+o(1))n$ contains a squared Hamiltonian cycle. This may be regarded as a first step towards a hypergraph version of the Pósa-Seymour conjecture.
