Polynomial Freiman-Ruzsa, Reed-Muller codes and Shannon capacity
In 1948, Shannon used a probabilistic argument to show the existence of codes achieving a maximal rate defined by the channel capacity. In 1954, Muller and Reed introduced a simple deterministic code construction, based on polynomial evaluations, conjectured shortly after to achieve capacity. The conjecture led to decades of activity involving various areas of mathematics and the recent settlement by [AS23] using flower set boosting. In this paper, we provide an alternative proof of the weak form of the capacity result, i.e., that RM codes have a vanishing local error at any rate below capacity. Our proof relies on the recent Polynomial Freiman-Ruzsa conjecture's proof [GGMT23] and an entropy extraction approach similar to [AY19]. Further, a new additive combinatorics conjecture is put forward which would imply the stronger result with vanishing global error. We expect the latter conjecture to be more directly relevant to coding applications.

Reed-Muller codes have vanishing bit-error probability below capacity: a simple tighter proof via camellia boosting
This paper shows that a class of codes such as Reed-Muller (RM) codes have vanishing bit-error probability below capacity on symmetric channels. The proof relies on the notion of `camellia codes': a class of symmetric codes decomposable into `camellias', i.e., set systems that differ from sunflowers by allowing for scattered petal overlaps. The proof then follows from a boosting argument on the camellia petals with second moment Fourier analysis. For erasure channels, this gives a self-contained proof of the bit-error result in Kudekar et al.'17, without relying on sharp thresholds for monotone properties Friedgut-Kalai'96. For error channels, this gives a shortened proof of Reeves-Pfister'23 with an exponentially tighter bound, and a proof variant of the bit-error result in Abbe-Sandon'23. The control of the full (block) error probability still requires Abbe-Sandon'23 for RM codes.

Warnaar's bijection and colored partition identities, II
Published in Ramanujan J. 33 (2014), no. 1, 83--120 • View PublicationBIB
In our previous paper, we determined a unified combinatorial framework to look at a large number of colored partition identities, and studied the five identities corresponding to the exceptional modular equations of prime degree of the Schroeter, Russell and Ramanujan type. The goal of this paper is to use the master bijection of our previous work to show combinatorially several new and highly nontrivial colored partition identities. We conclude by listing a number of further interesting identities of the same type as conjectures.

Warnaar's bijection and colored partition identities, I
Published in J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 120 (2013), no. 1, 28--38 • View PublicationBIB
We provide a general and unified combinatorial framework for a number of colored partition identities, which include the five, recently proved analytically by B. Berndt, that correspond to the exceptional modular equations of prime degree due to H. Schroeter, R. Russell and S. Ramanujan. Our approach generalizes that of S. Kim, who has given a bijective proof for two of these five identities, namely the ones modulo 7 (also known as the Farkas-Kra identity) and modulo 3. As a consequence of our method, we determine bijective proofs also for the two highly nontrivial identities modulo 5 and 11, thus leaving open combinatorially only the one modulo 23.
