Evasive Random Walks and the Clairvoyant Demon

A pair of random walks $(R,S)$ on the vertices of a graph $G$ is {\it successful} if two tokens can be scheduled (moving only one token at a time) to travel along $R$ and $S$ without colliding. We consider questions related to P. Winkler's {\it clairvoyant demon problem}, which asks whether for random walks $R$ and $S$ on $G$, $Pr[\ (R,S) \mbox{ is successful }] >0$. We introduce the notion of an {\it evasive} walk on $G$: a walk $S$ so that for a random walk $R$ on $G$, $Pr[\ (R,S) \mbox{ is successful }]>0$. We characterize graphs $G$ having evasive walks, giving explicit constructions on such $G$. On a cycle, we show that with high probability the tokens must collide quickly. Finally we consider two variants of the problem for which, under certain assumptions on the graph $G$, we provide algorithms that schedule $(R,S)$ successfully with positive probability.
Kasteleyn operators from mirror symmetry

Given a consistent bipartite graph $Γ$ in $T^2$ with a complex-valued edge weighting $\mathcal{E}$ we show the following two constructions are the same. The first is to form the Kasteleyn operator of $(Γ, \mathcal{E})$ and pass to its spectral transform, a coherent sheaf supported on a spectral curve in $(\mathbb{C}^\times)^2$. The second is to form the conjugate Lagrangian $L \subset T^* T^2$ of $Γ$, equip it with a brane structure prescribed by $\mathcal{E}$, and pass to its mirror coherent sheaf. This lives on a stacky toric compactification of $(\mathbb{C}^\times)^2$ determined by the Legendrian link which lifts the zig-zag paths of $Γ$ (and to which the noncompact Lagrangian $L$ is asymptotic). We work in the setting of the coherent-constructible correspondence, a sheaf-theoretic model of toric mirror symmetry. We also show that tensoring with line bundles on the compactification is mirror to certain Legendrian autoisotopies of the asymptotic boundary of $L$.

Many interesting spaces --- including all positroid strata and wild character varieties --- are moduli of constructible sheaves on a surface with microsupport in a Legendrian link. We show that the existence of cluster structures on these spaces may be deduced in a uniform, systematic fashion by constructing and taking the sheaf quantizations of a set of exact Lagrangian fillings in correspondence with isotopy representatives whose front projections have crossings with alternating orientations. It follows in turn that results in cluster algebra may be used to construct and distinguish exact Lagrangian fillings of Legendrian links in the standard contact three space.

We prove a theorem relating torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on toric varieties to polyhedrally-constructible sheaves on a vector space. At the level of K-theory, the theorem recovers Morelli's description of the K-theory of a smooth projective toric variety. Specifically, let $X$ be a proper toric variety of dimension $n$ and let $M_\bR = \mathrm{Lie}(T_\bR^\vee)\cong \bR^n$ be the Lie algebra of the compact dual (real) torus $T_\bR^\vee\cong U(1)^n$. Then there is a corresponding conical Lagrangian $Λ\subset T^*M_\bR$ and an equivalence of triangulated dg categories $\Perf_T(X) \cong \Sh_{cc}(M_\bR;Λ),$ where $\Perf_T(X)$ is the triangulated dg category of perfect complexes of torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on $X$ and $\Sh_{cc}(M_\bR;Λ)$ is the triangulated dg category of complex of sheaves on $M_\bR$ with compactly supported, constructible cohomology whose singular support lies in $Λ$. This equivalence is monoidal---it intertwines the tensor product of coherent sheaves on $X$ with the convolution product of constructible sheaves on $M_\bR$.

We extend our previous work arXiv:1007.0053 on coherent-constructible correspondence for toric varieties to include toric Deligne-Mumford (DM) stacks. Following Borisov-Chen-Smith, a toric DM stack $\cX_\bSi$ is described by a "stacky fan" $\bSi=(N,\Si,β)$, where $N$ is a finitely generated abelian group and $\Si$ is a simplicial fan in $N_\bR=N\otimes_{\bZ}\bR$. From $\bSi$ we define a conical Lagrangian $Λ_\bSi$ inside the cotangent $T^*M_\bR$ of the dual vector space $M_\bR$ of $N_\bR$, such that torus-equivariant, coherent sheaves on $\cX_\bSi$ are equivalent to constructible sheaves on $M_\bR$ with singular support in $\LbS$.
