Minimal crossing diagrams of spatial graphs
We prove that all $1$-vertex spatial graphs with adequate diagrams have minimal crossing number, and that spatial graph diagrams obtained by replacing vertices and edges of a planar embedded graph by minimal crossing link or spatial graph diagrams have minimal crossing number. Finally, we give an example in answer to a question of Adams et al. about minimal crossing diagrams of rigid vertex graphs.

Splittings of Tangles and Spatial Graphs
Menasco proved the surprising result that if $G$ is a reduced, alternating, connected projection of a link $L$ and $G$ is prime then $L$ is prime. This result has been generalized to other classes of links, tangles, and spatial graphs. We draw attention to some issues with previous splitting results about tangles and spatial graphs, and obtain new more general results for tangles and spatial graphs.

Asymmetric $2$-colorings of graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show that the edges of every 3-connected planar graph except $K_4$ can be colored with two colors in such a way that the graph has no color preserving automorphisms. Also, we characterize all graphs which have the property that their edges can be $2$-colored so that no matter how the graph is embedded in any orientable surface, there is no homeomorphism of the surface which induces a non-trivial color preserving automorphism of the graph.

The Y-triangle move does not preserve Intrinsic Knottedness
Published in Osaka Journal of Mathematics, Vol. 45, No. 1 (2008), 107-111 • Search Publication
We answer the question "Does the Y-triangle move preserve intrinsic knottedness?" in the negative by giving an example of a graph that is obtained from the intrinsically knotted graph K_7 by triangle-Y and Y-triangle moves but is not intrinsically knotted.
Symmetries of embedded complete bipartite graphs
Published in Fundamenta Mathematicae, vol. 226, 2014, pp. 1-16 • View PublicationBIB
We characterize which automorphisms of an arbitrary complete bipartite graph $K_{n,m}$ can be induced by a homeomorphism of some embedding of the graph in $S^3$.
Classification of topological symmetry groups of $K_n$
Published in Topology Proceedings, vol. 43, 2014, pp. 209-233 • Search Publication
In this paper we complete the classification of topological symmetry groups for complete graphs $K_n$ by characterizing which $K_n$ can have a cyclic group, a dihedral group, or a subgroup of $D_m \times D_m$ where $m$ is odd, as its topological symmetry group.

Complete graphs whose topological symmetry groups are polyhedral
Published in Algebr. Geom. Topol. 11 (2011) 1405-1433 • View PublicationBIB
We determine for which $m$, the complete graph $K_m$ has an embedding in $S^3$ whose topological symmetry group is isomorphic to one of the polyhedral groups: $A_4$, $A_5$, or $S_4$.

Topological Symmetry Groups of K_{4r+3}
Published in Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems, Vol 4, (2011), 1401-1411 • View PublicationBIB
We present the concept of the topological symmetry group as a way to analyze the symmetries of non-rigid molecules. Then we characterize all of the groups which can occur as the topological symmetry group of an embedding of the complete graph K_{4r+3} in S^3.

Intrinsic linking and knotting are arbitrarily complex
Published in Fund. Math., vol. 201, no. 2, 2008, pp. 131-148 • View PublicationBIB
We show that, given any $n$ and $α$, every embedding of any sufficiently large complete graph in $\mathbb{R}^3$ contains an oriented link with components $Q_1$, ..., $Q_n$ such that for every $i\not =j$, $|\lk(Q_i,Q_j)|\geqα$ and $|a_2(Q_i)|\geqα$, where $a_{2}(Q_i)$ denotes the second coefficient of the Conway polynomial of $Q_i$.

Intrinsic linking and knotting of graphs in arbitrary 3-manifolds
Published in Algebr. Geom. Topol. 6 (2006) 1025-1035 • View PublicationBIB
We prove that a graph is intrinsically linked in an arbitrary 3-manifold M if and only if it is intrinsically linked in S^3. Also, assuming the Poincare Conjecture, we prove that a graph is intrinsically knotted in M if and only if it is intrinsically knotted in S^3.
