A Helly-Type Theorem for two-component convex sets
In any fixed dimension, consider a finite collection of sets, each consisting of exactly two disjoint, closed, convex pieces. We show that to guarantee the intersection of the whole collection also consists of exactly two such convex pieces, it suffices to verify the same two-piece structure for all intersections of some subfamilies of intermediate size, thus answering a question of Gil Kalai.
Coloring semiminimal Cayley Graphs
In 1978 Babai raised the question whether all semiminimal Cayley graphs have bounded chromatic number. In this paper we show that semiminimal Cayley graphs of abelian and generalized dihedral groups have circular chromatic number at most 4, thus extending a result of Barajas and Serra.
Combinatorial Designs and Cellular Automata: A Survey
Cellular Automata (CA) are commonly investigated as a particular type of dynamical systems, defined by shift-invariant local rules. In this paper, we consider instead CA as algebraic systems, focusing on the combinatorial designs induced by their short-term behavior. Specifically, we review the main results published in the literature concerning the construction of mutually orthogonal Latin squares via bipermutive CA, considering both the linear and nonlinear cases. We then survey some significant applications of these results to cryptography, and conclude with a discussion of open problems to be addressed in future research on CA-based combinatorial designs.
Eulerian magnitude homology: diagonality, injective words, and regular path homology
In this paper we explore the algebraic structure and combinatorial properties of eulerian magnitude homology. First, we analyze the diagonality conditions of eulerian magnitude homology, providing a characterization of complete graphs. Then, we construct the regular magnitude-path spectral sequence as the spectral sequence of the (filtered) injective nerve of the reachability category, and explore its consequences. Among others, we show that such spectral sequence converges to the complex of injective words on a digraph, and yields characterization results for the regular path homology of diagonal directed graphs.
Computing eulerian magnitude homology
In this paper tackle the problem of computing the ranks of certain eulerian magnitude homology groups of a graph G. First, we analyze the computational cost of our problem and prove that it is #W[1]-complete. Then we develop the first diagonal algorithm, a breadth-first-search-based algorithm parameterized by the diameter of the graph to calculate the ranks of the homology groups of interest. To do this, we leverage the close relationship between the combinatorics of the homology boundary map and the substructures appearing in the graph. We then discuss the feasibility of the presented algorithm and consider future perspectives.
On torsion in eulerian magnitude homology of Erdos-Renyi random graphs
In this paper we investigate the regimes where an Erdos-Renyi random graph has torsion free eulerian magnitude homology groups. To this end, we start be introducing the eulerian Asao-Izumihara complex - a quotient CW-complex whose homology groups are isomorphic to direct summands of the graph eulerian magnitude homology group. We then proceed by producing a vanishing threshold for a shelling of eulerian Asao-Izumihara complex. This will lead to a result establishing the regimes where eulerian magnitude homology of Erdos-Renyi random graphs is torsion free.
Eulerian magnitude homology: subgraph structure and random graphs
In this paper we explore the connection between the ranks of the magnitude homology groups of a graph and the structure of its subgraphs. To this end, we introduce variants of magnitude homology called eulerian magnitude homology and discriminant magnitude homology. Leveraging the combinatorics of the differential in magnitude homology, we illustrate a close relationship between the ranks of the eulerian magnitude homology groups on the first diagonal and counts of subgraphs which fall in specific classes. We leverage these tools to study limiting behavior of the eulerian magnitude homology groups for Erdos-Renyi random graphs and random geometric graphs, producing for both models a vanishing threshold for the eulerian magnitude homology groups on the first diagonal. This in turn provides a characterization of the generators for the corresponding magnitude homology groups. Finally, we develop an explicit asymptotic estimate the expected rank of eulerian magnitude homology along the first diagonal for these random graph models.
