Maximum number of edge colorings avoiding rainbow copies of $K_4$
In this paper we show that for $r\geq 12$ and any sufficiently large $n$-vertex graph $G$ the number of $r$-edge-colorings of $G$ with no rainbow $K_4$ is at most $r^{ex(n,K_4)}$, where $ex(n,K_4)$ denotes the Turán number of $K_4$. Moreover, $G$ attains equality if and only if it is the Turán graph $T_3(n)$.
The bound on the number of colors $r\geq 12$ is best possible. It improves upon a result of H. Lefmann, D.A. Nolibos, and the second author who showed the same result for $r \geq 5434$ and it confirms a conjecture by Gupta, Pehova, Powierski and Staden.
Colour-bias perfect matchings in hypergraphs
We study conditions under which an edge-coloured hypergraph has a particular substructure that contains more than the trivially guaranteed number of monochromatic edges. Our main result solves this problem for perfect matchings under minimum degree conditions. This answers recent questions of Gishboliner, Glock and Sgueglia, and of Balogh, Treglown and Zárate-Guerén.
Quasi-random words and limits of word sequences

Words are sequences of letters over a finite alphabet. We study two intimately related topics for this object: quasi-randomness and limit theory. With respect to the first topic we investigate the notion of uniform distribution of letters over intervals, and in the spirit of the famous Chung--Graham--Wilson theorem for graphs we provide a list of word properties which are equivalent to uniformity. In particular, we show that uniformity is equivalent to counting 3-letter subsequences.
Inspired by graph limit theory we then investigate limits of convergent word sequences, those in which all subsequence densities converge. We show that convergent word sequences have a natural limit, namely Lebesgue measurable functions of the form $f:[0,1]\to[0,1]$. Via this theory we show that every hereditary word property is testable, address the problem of finite forcibility for word limits and establish as a byproduct a new model of random word sequences.
Along the lines of the proof of the existence of word limits, we can also establish the existence of limits for higher dimensional structures. In particular, we obtain an alternative proof of the result by Hoppen, Kohayakawa, Moreira, Ráth and Sampaio [{\it J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 103(1):93--113, 2013}] establishing the existence of permutons.

For any even integer $k\ge 6$, integer $d$ such that $k/2\le d\le k-1$, and sufficiently large $n\in (k/2)\mathbb N$, we find a tight minimum $d$-degree condition that guarantees the existence of a Hamilton $(k/2)$-cycle in every $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices. When $n\in k\mathbb N$, the degree condition coincides with the one for the existence of perfect matchings provided by Rödl, Ruciński and Szemerédi (for $d=k-1$) and Treglown and Zhao (for $d\ge k/2$), and thus our result strengthens theirs in this case.
Factors and loose Hamilton cycles in sparse pseudo-random hypergraphs

We investigate the emergence of spanning structures in sparse pseudo-random $k$-uniform hypergraphs, using the following comparatively weak notion of pseudo-randomness. A $k$-uniform hypergraph $H$ on $n$ vertices is called $(p,α,ε)$-pseudo-random if for all (not necessarily disjoint) vertex subsets $A_1,\dots, A_k{\subseteq} V(H)$ with $|A_1|\cdots |A_k|{\geq}αn^{k}$ we have $$e(A_1,\dots, A_k)=(1\pmε)p |A_1|\cdots |A_k|.$$ For any linear $k$-uniform $F$ we provide a bound on $α=α(n)$ in terms of $p=p(n)$ and $F$, such that (under natural divisibility assumptions on $n$) any $k$-uniform $\big(p,α, o(1)\big)$-pseudo-random $n$-vertex hypergraph $H$ with a mild minimum vertex degree condition contains an $F$-factor. The approach also enables us to establish the existence of loose Hamilton cycles in sufficiently pseudo-random hypergraphs and all results imply corresponding bounds for stronger notions of hypergraph pseudo-randomness such as jumbledness or large spectral gap.
As a consequence, $\big(p,α, o(1)\big)$-pseudo-random $k$-graphs as above contain: $(i)$ a perfect matching if $α=o(p^{k})$ and $(ii)$ a loose Hamilton cycle if $α=o(p^{k-1})$. This extends the works of Lenz--Mubayi, and Lenz--Mubayi--Mycroft who studied the analogous problems in the dense setting.
Maximum number of sum-free colorings in finite abelian groups
An $r$-coloring of a subset $A$ of a finite abelian group $G$ is called sum-free if it does not induce a monochromatic Schur triple, i.e., a triple of elements $a,b,c\in A$ with $a+b=c$. We investigate $κ_{r,G}$, the maximum number of sum-free $r$-colorings admitted by subsets of $G$, and our results show a close relationship between $κ_{r,G}$ and largest sum-free sets of $G$. Given a sufficiently large abelian group $G$ of type $I$, i.e., $|G|$ has a prime divisor $q$ with $q\equiv 2\pmod 3$. For $r=2,3$ we show that a subset $A\subset G$ achieves $κ_{r,G}$ if and only if $A$ is a largest sum-free set of $G$. For even order $G$ the result extends to $r=4,5$, where the phenomenon persists only if $G$ has a unique largest sum-free set. On the contrary, if the largest sum-free set in $G$ is not unique then $A$ attains $κ_{r,G}$ if and only if it is the union of two largest sum-free sets (in case $r=4$) and the union of three ("independent") largest sum-free sets (in case $r=5$). Our approach relies on the so called container method and can be extended to larger $r$ in case $G$ is of even order and contains sufficiently many largest sum-free sets.

We show that for every η > 0 there exists an integer n_0 such that every 2-colouring of the 3-uniform complete hypergraph on n \geq n_0 vertices contains two disjoint monochromatic tight cycles of distinct colours that together cover all but at most ηn vertices. The same result holds if we replace tight cycles with loose cycles.

The blow-up lemma states that a system of super-regular pairs contains all bounded degree spanning graphs as subgraphs that embed into a corresponding system of complete pairs. This lemma has far-reaching applications in extremal combinatorics.
We prove sparse analogues of the blow-up lemma for subgraphs of random and of pseudorandom graphs. Our main results are the following three sparse versions of the blow-up lemma: one for embedding spanning graphs with maximum degree $Δ$ in subgraphs of $G(n,p)$ with $p=C(\log n/n)^{1/Δ}$; one for embedding spanning graphs with maximum degree $Δ$ and degeneracy $D$ in subgraphs of $G(n,p)$ with $p=C_Δ\big(\log n/n\big)^{1/(2D+1)}$; and one for embedding spanning graphs with maximum degree $Δ$ in $(p,cp^{\max(4,(3Δ+1)/2)}n)$-bijumbled graphs.
We also consider various applications of these lemmas.
Extremal results for odd cycles in sparse pseudorandom graphs

We consider extremal problems for subgraphs of pseudorandom graphs. For graphs $F$ and $Γ$ the generalized Turán density $π_F(Γ)$ denotes the density of a maximum subgraph of $Γ$, which contains no copy of~$F$. Extending classical Turán type results for odd cycles, we show that $π_{F}(Γ)=1/2$ provided $F$ is an odd cycle and $Γ$ is a sufficiently pseudorandom graph. In particular, for $(n,d,λ)$-graphs $Γ$, i.e., $n$-vertex, $d$-regular graphs with all non-trivial eigenvalues in the interval $[-λ,λ]$, our result holds for odd cycles of length $\ell$, provided \[ λ^{\ell-2}\ll \frac{d^{\ell-1}}n\log(n)^{-(\ell-2)(\ell-3)}\,. \] Up to the polylog-factor this verifies a conjecture of Krivelevich, Lee, and Sudakov. For triangles the condition is best possible and was proven previously by Sudakov, Szabó, and Vu, who addressed the case when $F$ is a complete graph. A construction of Alon and Kahale (based on an earlier construction of Alon for triangle-free $(n,d,λ)$-graphs) shows that our assumption on $Γ$ is best possible up to the polylog-factor for every odd $\ell\geq 5$.
Erdős-Ko-Rado for random hypergraphs: asymptotics and stability

We investigate the asymptotic version of the Erdős-Ko-Rado theorem for the random $k$-uniform hypergraph $\mathcal{H}^k(n,p)$. For $2 \leq k(n) \leq n/2$, let $N=\binom{n}k$ and $D=\binom{n-k}k$. We show that with probability tending to 1 as $n\to\infty$, the largest intersecting subhypergraph of $\mathcal{H}^k(n,p)$ has size $(1+o(1))p\frac kn N$, for any $p\gg \frac nk\ln^2\!\left(\frac nk\right)D^{-1}$. This lower bound on $p$ is asymptotically best possible for $k=Θ(n)$. For this range of $k$ and $p$, we are able to show stability as well.
A different behavior occurs when $k = o(n)$. In this case, the lower bound on $p$ is almost optimal. Further, for the small interval $D^{-1}\ll p \leq (n/k)^{1-\varepsilon}D^{-1}$, the largest intersecting subhypergraph of $\mathcal{H}^k(n,p)$ has size $Θ(\ln (pD)N D^{-1})$, provided that $k \gg \sqrt{n \ln n}$.
Together with previous work of Balogh, Bohman and Mubayi, these results settle the asymptotic size of the largest intersecting family in $\mathcal{H}^k(n,p)$, for essentially all values of $p$ and $k$.
Powers of Hamilton cycles in pseudorandom graphs

We study the appearance of powers of Hamilton cycles in pseudorandom graphs, using the following comparatively weak pseudorandomness notion. A graph $G$ is $(\varepsilon,p,k,\ell)$-pseudorandom if for all disjoint $X$ and $Y\subset V(G)$ with $|X|\ge\varepsilon p^kn$ and $|Y|\ge\varepsilon p^\ell n$ we have $e(X,Y)=(1\pm\varepsilon)p|X||Y|$. We prove that for all $β>0$ there is an $\varepsilon>0$ such that an $(\varepsilon,p,1,2)$-pseudorandom graph on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $βpn$ contains the square of a Hamilton cycle. In particular, this implies that $(n,d,λ)$-graphs with $λ\ll d^{5/2 }n^{-3/2}$ contain the square of a Hamilton cycle, and thus a triangle factor if $n$ is a multiple of $3$. This improves on a result of Krivelevich, Sudakov and Szabó [Triangle factors in sparse pseudo-random graphs, Combinatorica 24 (2004), no. 3, 403--426].
We also extend our result to higher powers of Hamilton cycles and establish corresponding counting versions.
