Erdős--Falconer distance conjecture from an analytic perspective
Let \(q\) be an odd prime power and let \(V=\F_q^{2m}\), equipped with \(Q(x)=x_1^2+\cdots+x_{2m}^2\). We develop a semidefinite Delsarte framework for the two-set Erdős--Falconer distance problem over \(V\). The framework reduces the natural \(q^m\)-scale positive-proportion theorem to a uniform \(L^1\) anti-concentration statement for positive convex combinations of classical Kloosterman sums. Assuming this Kloosterman anti-concentration conjecture, we prove that for every \(0<α<\frac{1}{2}\) there is a constant \(C_{m,α}\) such that \[
\min\{|E|,|F| \} \ge C_{m,α}q^m
\quad\Longrightarrow\quad
|Δ_Q^\times(E,F)|>α(q-1) \] for all \(E,F\subset \F_q^{2m}\). More generally, a \(q^{-θ}\)-level version of the Kloosterman input yields the geometric threshold \(q^{m+θ}\). In particular, a universal second-moment argument gives an unconditional \(q^{m+\frac{1}{2}}\)-threshold through the same framework. The proof uses positive semidefinite \(2\times2\) Gram matrices on quadratic frequency shells, the shell Fourier transform in even dimension, and a minimax separation argument that produces a uniform signed combination of Kloosterman columns. We also provide evidence for the Kloosterman conjecture and discuss limitations near full support.
Restricted projections in positive characteristic via Fourier extension and restriction estimates
Let $d\ge3$ and $\mathbb{F}_q^{\,d}$ be the $d$-dimensional vector space over a finite field of order $q$, where $q$ is an odd prime power. Let $X_π$ be the set of lines through the origin intersecting the slice $π\cap S^{d-1}$, where $π=\{x_d=λ\}$ and $S^{d-1}=\{x:\|x\|=1\}$. For $E\subset\mathbb{F}_q^{\,d}$ and $N\ge1$, we study the exceptional sets \[ T_1(X_π,E,N)=\bigl\{V\in X_π:\ |π_V(E)|\le N\bigr\},\qquad T_2(X_π,E,N)=\bigl\{V\in X_π:\ |π_{V^\perp}(E)|\le N\bigr\}, \] with their respective natural ranges of $N$. Using discrete Fourier analysis together with restriction/extension estimates for cone and sphere-type quadrics over finite fields, we obtain sharp upper bounds (up to constant factors) for $\lvert T_1\rvert$ and $\lvert T_2\rvert$, with separate analyses for the cases $λ\in \{0, \pm 1\}$. The bounds exhibit arithmetic-geometric dichotomies absent in the full Grassmannian: the quadratic character of $λ^{2}-1$ and the parity of $d$ determine the size of the exceptional sets. As an application, when $|E|\ge q$, there exists a positive proportion of elements $\mathbf{y}\in π\cap S^{d-1}$ such that the pinned dot-product sets $\{\mathbf{y}\cdot \mathbf{x}\colon \mathbf{x}\in E\}$ have cardinality $Ω(q)$. We further study analogous families arising from the spheres of radii $0$ and $-1$, and, by combining the results, recover the known estimates for projections over the full Grassmannian, complementing a result of Chen (2018).
On three-variable expanders over finite valuation rings
Let $\mathcal{R}$ be a finite valuation ring of order $q^r$. In this paper, we prove that for any quadratic polynomial $f(x,y,z) \in \mathcal{R}[x,y,z]$ that is of the form $axy+R(x)+S(y)+T(z)$ for some one-variable polynomials $R, S , T$, we have \[ |f(A,B,C)| \gg \min\left\{ q^r, \frac{|A||B||C|}{q^{2r-1}}\right\}\] for any $A, B, C \subset \mathcal{R}$. We also study the sum-product type problems over finite valuation ring $\mathcal{R}.$ More precisely, we show that for any $A \subset \mathcal{R}$ with $|A| \gg q^{r-1/3}$ then $$\max\{ |A \cdot A|, |A^d + A^d|\},\max\{ |A + A|, |A^2 + A^2|\},\max\{|A-A|,|AA+AA|\} \gg |A|^{2/3}q^{r/3},$$ and $|f(A) + A| \gg |A|^{2/3}q^{r/3}$ for any one variable quadratic polynomial $f$.

In this paper, we study growth rate of product of sets in the Heisenberg group over finite fields and the complex numbers. More precisely, we will give improvements and extensions of recent results due to Hegyvári and Hennecart (2018).
