Invariant chains of graphs
We initiate a systematic study of Inc-invariant chains of graphs, the combinatorial counterparts of Inc-invariant chains of edge ideals arising in the theory of equivariant Noetherianity. Such a chain consists of graphs on growing vertex sets whose edge sets are compatible with the action of the monoid of strictly increasing maps on the positive integers. We show that several associated combinatorial invariants exhibit rigid asymptotic behavior. The independence number eventually stabilizes, and every fixed entry of the $f$-vector and the $h$-vector of the independence complex is eventually linear. For clique complexes, every fixed entry of the $f$-vector is eventually polynomial, whereas the entries of the $h$-vector are eventually quasi-polynomial. Moreover, the clique and chromatic numbers are eventually quasi-linear, and their difference is eventually at most one. We also prove that the matching number eventually attains the maximal value $\lfloor n/2\rfloor$. Finally, admissible and minimal paths eventually have lengths at most $3$ and $5$, respectively, and their maximal lengths stabilize. These results reveal strong asymptotic regularity in graph families governed by increasing symmetry.
A Ridge-Saturation Characterization of $α$-Critical $\mathbf {W}_p$ Graphs
We characterize the graphs which are simultaneously $α$-critical and members of the class $\mathbf W_p$. The characterization is stated in three equivalent languages. In the graph itself, such a graph is a well-covered graph whose codimension-one localization fibers all have size at least $p$ and whose edges are exactly covered by the cliques induced by those fibers. In the independence complex, it is a pure flag complex in which every ridge has degree at least $p$ and every missing edge is generated by the link of a ridge. In the complement, it is a $K_{r+1}$-saturated graph, where $r=α(G)$, all maximal cliques have size $r$, and the minimum $(r-1)$-clique-codegree is at least $p$. This gives an exact formula for the largest $p$ for which a well-covered graph belongs to $\mathbf W_p$. We make this complement correspondence explicit, record saturation-theoretic consequences including dense-complement rigidity and $p$-sensitive edge and order bounds, and give a family of sharp examples showing that the local sufficient condition from the recent work of Hoang, Levit and Mandrescu is not necessary outside the locally triangle-free setting, for all $p\ge2$.
Restricted projections in positive characteristic via Fourier extension and restriction estimates
Let $d\ge3$ and $\mathbb{F}_q^{\,d}$ be the $d$-dimensional vector space over a finite field of order $q$, where $q$ is an odd prime power. Let $X_π$ be the set of lines through the origin intersecting the slice $π\cap S^{d-1}$, where $π=\{x_d=λ\}$ and $S^{d-1}=\{x:\|x\|=1\}$. For $E\subset\mathbb{F}_q^{\,d}$ and $N\ge1$, we study the exceptional sets \[ T_1(X_π,E,N)=\bigl\{V\in X_π:\ |π_V(E)|\le N\bigr\},\qquad T_2(X_π,E,N)=\bigl\{V\in X_π:\ |π_{V^\perp}(E)|\le N\bigr\}, \] with their respective natural ranges of $N$. Using discrete Fourier analysis together with restriction/extension estimates for cone and sphere-type quadrics over finite fields, we obtain sharp upper bounds (up to constant factors) for $\lvert T_1\rvert$ and $\lvert T_2\rvert$, with separate analyses for the cases $λ\in \{0, \pm 1\}$. The bounds exhibit arithmetic-geometric dichotomies absent in the full Grassmannian: the quadratic character of $λ^{2}-1$ and the parity of $d$ determine the size of the exceptional sets. As an application, when $|E|\ge q$, there exists a positive proportion of elements $\mathbf{y}\in π\cap S^{d-1}$ such that the pinned dot-product sets $\{\mathbf{y}\cdot \mathbf{x}\colon \mathbf{x}\in E\}$ have cardinality $Ω(q)$. We further study analogous families arising from the spheres of radii $0$ and $-1$, and, by combining the results, recover the known estimates for projections over the full Grassmannian, complementing a result of Chen (2018).
Structural properties and characterizations of $\mathbf{W}_{p}$ class
We establish new characterizations of graphs belonging to the $\mathbf{W}_p$ class. In addition, we characterize locally triangle-free $α$-critical graphs in this class. As a consequence, our results yield a partial answer to a question raised by Plummer \cite{Plum93} in the case $p=2$.
Asymptotic depth of invariant chains of edge ideals
We completely determine the asymptotic depth, equivalently, the asymptotic projective dimension of a chain of edge ideals that is invariant under the action of the monoid Inc of increasing functions on the positive integers. Our results and their proofs also reveal surprising combinatorial and topological properties of corresponding graphs and their independence complexes. In particular, we are able to determine the asymptotic behavior of all reduced homology groups of these independence complexes.
Log-concavity of the independence polynomials of $\mathbf{W}_{p}$ graphs
Let $G$ be a graph of order $n$. For a positive integer $p$, $G$ is said to be a $\mathbf{W}_{p}$ graph if $n\geq p$ and every $p$ pairwise disjoint independent sets of $G$ are contained within $p$ pairwise disjoint maximum independent sets. In this paper, we establish that every connected $\mathbf{W}_{p}$ graph $G$ is $p$-quasi-regularizable if and only if $n\geq(p+1)\cdotα$, where $α$ is the independence number of $G$ and $p\neq2$. This finding ensures that the independence polynomial of a connected $\mathbf{W}_{p}$ graph $G$ is log-concave whenever $(p+1)\cdotα\leq n\leq p\cdotα+2\sqrt{p\cdotα+p}$ and $\frac{α^{2}}{4\left( α+1\right) }\leq p$, or $p\cdotα+2\sqrt{p\cdotα+p}<n\leq \frac{\left( α^{2}+1\right) \cdot p+\left( α-1\right) ^{2}}{α-1}$ and $\frac{α\left( α-1\right) }{α+1}\leq p$. Moreover, the clique corona graph $G\circ K_{p}$ serves as an example of the $\mathbf{W}_{p}$ graph class. We further demonstrate that the independence polynomial of $G\circ K_{p}$ is always log-concave for sufficiently large $p$. Keywords: very well-covered graph; quasi-regularizable graph; corona graph; $\mathbf{W}_{p}$ graph; independence polynomial; log-concavity.

On the extremal Betti numbers of the binomial edge ideal of closed graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the equality of the extremal Betti numbers of the binomial edge ideal $J_G$ and those of its initial ideal ${\rm in}(J_G)$ of a closed graph $G$. We prove that in some cases there is an unique extremal Betti number for ${\rm in}(J_G)$ and as a consequence there is an unique extremal Betti number for $J_G$ and these extremal Betti numbers are equal

Coverings, Matchings and the number of maximal independent sets of graphs
We determine the maximum number of maximal independent sets of arbitrary graphs in terms of their covering numbers and we completely characterize the extremal graphs. As an application, we give a similar result for König-Egerváry graphs in terms of their matching numbers.

Combinatorial characterizations of the Cohen-Macaulayness of the second power of edge ideals
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $I(G)$ be the edge ideal of a simple graph $G$. In this paper, we will give sufficient and necessary combinatorial conditions of $G$ in which the second symbolic and ordinary power of its edge ideal are Cohen-Macaulay (resp. Buchsbaum, generalized Cohen-Macaulay). As an application of our results, we will classify all bipartite graphs in which the second (symbolic) powers are Cohen-Macaulay (resp. Buchsbaum, generalized Cohen-Macaulay).
