Matroid correspondence
Motivated by algebraic correspondences and linear operators associated with volume and Lorentzian polynomials, we introduce matroid correspondences and their polymatroid analogues. A matroid correspondence defines a functor between poset categories of matroids whose morphisms are matroid quotients, and various standard functors, including deletion, contraction, free extension, truncation, intersection, union, and pullback, arise in this way. We show that these correspondences preserve representability and algebraicity under natural hypotheses. In the polymatroid setting, we establish compatibility with multisymmetric lifts. Finally, we relate this construction to the supports of linear operators with Lorentzian symbols.
Trivariate Splines on Fans of Hyperplane Arrangements and Koszul Homology
We study the space of splines $\mathcal{S}^{\mathbf{r}}(Σ^\mathscr{A})$ where ${\mathbf{r}}$ denotes a smoothness distribution and $Σ^\mathscr{A}$ is the fan of a central hyperplane arrangement $\mathscr{A}$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$. This is the first step in the analysis of splines on three-dimensional cross-cut partitions, which naturally generalize planar cross-cut partitions. We show that the Hilbert function of $\mathcal{S}^{\mathbf{r}}(Σ^\mathscr{A})$ is bounded by an expression that involves the dimensions of specific Koszul homology modules constructed from the defining equations of the hyperplane arrangement $\mathscr{A}$ and the smoothness distribution function. By exploiting this connection with Koszul homology, we are able to: 1) compute the dimension of the spline space in high degrees, 2) compute all values of the dimension of the spline space if $\mathscr{A}$ is generic with five or fewer hyperplanes, and 3) compute the Hilbert function of the spline space if $\mathscr{A}$ is a generic arrangement with sufficiently many hyperplanes and ${\mathbf{r}}$ is a constant distribution. As an application of our methods, we compute $\dim \mathcal{S}^0_d(Σ^\mathscr{A})$ and $\dim \mathcal{S}^1_d(Σ^\mathscr{A})$ for all values of $d$ when $\mathscr{A}$ is a generic arrangement.
Asymptotic depth of invariant chains of edge ideals
We completely determine the asymptotic depth, equivalently, the asymptotic projective dimension of a chain of edge ideals that is invariant under the action of the monoid Inc of increasing functions on the positive integers. Our results and their proofs also reveal surprising combinatorial and topological properties of corresponding graphs and their independence complexes. In particular, we are able to determine the asymptotic behavior of all reduced homology groups of these independence complexes.
Simplicial complexes and matroids with vanishing $T^2$
We investigate quotients by radical monomial ideals for which $T^2$, the second cotangent cohomology module, vanishes. The dimension of the graded components of $T^2$, and thus their vanishing, depends only on the combinatorics of the corresponding simplicial complex. We give both a complete characterization and a full list of one dimensional complexes with $T^2=0$. We characterize the graded components of $T^2$ when the simplicial complex is a uniform matroid. Finally, we show that $T^2$ vanishes for all matroids of corank at most two and conjecture that all connected matroids with vanishing $T^2$ are of corank at most two.

We study three invariants of geometrically vertex decomposable ideals: the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, the multiplicity, and the $a$-invariant. We show that these invariants can be computed recursively using the ideals that appear in the geometric vertex decomposition process. As an application, we prove that the $a$-invariant of a geometrically vertex decomposable ideal is non-positive. We also recover some previously known results in the literature including a formula for the regularity of the Stanley--Reisner ideal of a pure vertex decomposable simplicial complex, and proofs that some well-known families of ideals are Hilbertian. Finally, we apply our recursions to the study of toric ideals of bipartite graphs. Included among our results on this topic is a new proof for a known bound on the $a$-invariant of a toric ideal of a bipartite graph.
Quasi f-Simplicial Complexes and Quasi f-Graphs
The notion of $f$-ideal is recent and has so far been studied in several papers. In \cite{qfi}, the idea of $f$-ideal is generalized to quasi $f$-ideals, which is much larger class than the class of $f$-ideals. In this paper, we introduce the concept of quasi $f$-simplicial complex and quasi $f$-graph. We give a characterization of quasi $f$-graphs on $n$ vertices. A complete solution of connectedness of quasi $f$-simplicial complexes is described. We have also shown a method of constructing Cohen-Macaulay quasi $f$-graphs.
