Finite Free Convolution: Infinitesimal Distributions
Finite-free additive and multiplicative convolutions are operations on the set of polynomials with real roots, introduced independently by Szegö and Walsh in the 1920s. These operations have regained some interest, in the last decade, after being rediscovered by Marcus, Spielman, and Srivastava as the expected characteristic polynomial of randomly rotated matrices. They converge, as the degree $d$ of the polynomials increases, to the additive and multiplicative convolution of measures from free probability of Voiculescu. In this paper, we investigate the fluctuations of order $1/d$ -- also known as infinitesimal distributions -- related to these two operations and their limiting behavior, providing a detailed description of their convergence. Our approach relies on understanding the infinitesimal moment-cumulant formulas and the corresponding functional relations. We also establish several applications and examples, including instances related to the infinitesimal free convolution of Belinschi and Shlyakhtenko, as well as the computation of infinitesimal distributions after differentiation of polynomials.
Bound for the energy of graphs in terms of degrees and leaves
We provide a new upper bound for the energy of graphs in terms of degrees and number of leaves. We apply this formula to study the energy of Erdös-Rényi graphs and Barabasi-Albert trees.

The change of vertex energy when joining trees
In this manuscript we study how the vertex energy of a tree is affected when joined with a bipartite graph. We find an alternating pattern with respect to the coalescence vertex: the energy decreases for vertices located at odd distances and increases for those located at even distances.
Central limit theorem for crossings in randomly embedded graphs
We consider the number of crossings in a random embedding of a graph, $G$, with vertices in convex position. We give explicit formulas for the mean and variance of the number of crossings as a function of various subgraph counts of $G$. Using Stein's method and size-bias coupling, we establish an upper bound on the Kolmogorov distance between the distribution of the number of crossings and a standard normal random variable. We also consider the case where $G$ is a random graph and obtain a Kolmogorov bound between the distribution of crossings and a Gaussian mixture distribution. As applications, we obtain central limit theorems with convergence rates for the number of crossings in random embeddings of matchings, path graphs, cycle graphs, disjoint union of triangles, random $d$-regular graphs, and mixtures of random graphs.

New combinatorial identity for the set of partitions and limit theorems in finite free probability theory
Published in Int. Math. Res. Not. IMRN 2024, Issue 14 (2024), 10524-10558 • Search Publication
We provide a refined combinatorial identity for the set of partitions of $\{1,\dots, n\}$, which plays an important role in investigating several limit theorems related to finite free convolutions. Firstly, we present the finite free analogue of Sakuma and Yoshida's limit theorem. That is, we provide the limit of $\{D_{1/m}((p_d^{\boxtimes_d m})^{\boxplus_d m})\}_{m\in \mathbb{N}}$ as $m\rightarrow\infty$ in two cases: (i) $m/d\rightarrow t$ for some $t>0$, or (ii) $m/d\rightarrow0$. The second application presents a central limit theorem for finite free multiplicative convolution. We establish a connection between this theorem and the multiplicative free semicircular distributions through combinatorial identities. Our last result gives alternative proofs for Kabluchko's limit theorems concerning the unitary Hermite and the Laguerre polynomials.

On the $p$-Schatten Energy of Bipartite Graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We give a Coulson integral formula and a Coulson-Jacobs formula for the $p$-Schatten energy. We use this formulas to compare the $p$-Schatten energy of different trees by using a quasiorder, and establish the maximality of paths among all trees.

Crossings in Randomly Embedded Graphs
We consider the number of crossings in a graph which is embedded randomly on a convex set of points. We give an estimate to the normal distribution in Kolmogorov distance which implies a convergence rate of order $n^{-1/2}$ for various families of graphs, including random chord diagrams or full cycles.

Finite Free Cumulants: Multiplicative Convolutions, Genus Expansion and Infinitesimal Distributions
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given two polynomials $p(x), q(x)$ of degree $d$, we give a combinatorial formula for the finite free cumulants of $p(x)\boxtimes_d q(x)$. We show that this formula admits a topological expansion in terms of non-crossing multi-annular permutations on surfaces of different genera. This topological expansion, on the one hand, deepens the connection between the theories of finite free probability and free probability, and in particular proves that $\boxtimes_d$ converges to $\boxtimes$ as $d$ goes to infinity. On the other hand, borrowing tools from the theory of second order freeness, we use our expansion to study the infinitesimal distribution of certain families of polynomials which include Hermite and Laguerre, and draw some connections with the theory of infinitesimal distributions for real random matrices. Finally, building off our results we give a new short and conceptual proof of a recent result [Steinerberger (2020), Hoskins and Kabluchko (2020)] that connects root distributions of polynomial derivatives with free fractional convolution powers.

Energy and Randic index of directed graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The concept of Randic index has been extended recently for a digraph. We prove that $2R(G)\leq \mathcal{E}(G)\leq 2\sqrt{Δ(G)} R(G)$, where $G$ is a digraph, and $R(G)$ denotes the Randic index, $\mathcal{E}(G)$ denotes the Nikiforov energy and $Δ(G) $ denotes the maximum degree of $G$. In both inequalities we describe the graphs for which the equality holds.
Graphs of Maximal Energy with Fixed Maximal Degree
Published in MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem. 2020, 83(3), 531-539 • Search Publication
We give a bound for the graph energy with given maximal degree in terms of the second and fourth moments of a graph. In the case in which the graph is $d$-regular we obtain the bound that is given in Van Dam, E. et al. (2014). through elementary methods.

The graph energy game
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the graph energy from a cooperative game viewpoint. We introduce \emph{the graph energy game} and show various properties. In particular, we see that it is a superadditive game and that the energy of a vertex, as defined in Arizmendi and Juarez-Romero (2018), belongs to the core of the game. These properties imply new bounds for the energy of graphs. We also consider a version based on $p$-Schatten norms.

Energy of a graph and Randic index

We prove that, for any graph $G$, its graph energy is at least twice the Randic index. We show that equality holds if and only if $G$ is the union of complete bipartite graphs.
Coulson Integral Formula for the Vertex Energy of a Graph

In this note we prove that the vertex energy of a graph, as defined in Arizmendi and Juarez (2018), can be calculated in terms of a Coulson integral formula. We present examples of how this formula can be used, and we show some applications to bipartite graphs.

Cumulants for finite free convolution

In this paper we define cumulants for finite free convolution. We give a moment-cumulant formula and show that these cumulants satisfy desired properties: they are additive with respect to finite free convolution and they approach free cumulants as the dimension goes to infinity.

On the spectral distributions of distance-k graph of free product graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We calculate the distribution with respect to the vacuum state of the distance-$k$ graph of a $d$-regular tree. From this result we show that the distance-$k$ graph of a $d$-regular graphs converges to the distribution of the distance-$k$ graph of a regular tree. Finally, we prove that, properly normalized, the asymptotic distributions of distance-$k$ graphs of the $d$-fold free product graph, as $d$ tends to infinity, is given by the distribution of $P_k(s)$, where $s$ is a semicircle random variable and $P_k$ is the $k$-th Chebychev polynomial.

Large area convex holes in random point sets
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $K, L$ be convex sets in the plane. For normalization purposes, suppose that the area of $K$ is $1$. Suppose that a set $K_n$ of $n$ points are chosen independently and uniformly over $K$, and call a subset of $K$ a {\em hole} if it does not contain any point in $K_n$. It is shown that w.h.p. the largest area of a hole homothetic to $L$ is $(1+o(1)) \log{n}/n$. We also consider the problems of estimating the largest area convex hole, and the largest area of a convex polygonal hole with vertices in $K_n$. For these two problems we show that the answer is $Θ\bigl(\log{n}/n\bigr)$.
Relations between cumulants in noncommutative probability

We express classical, free, Boolean and monotone cumulants in terms of each other, using combinatorics of heaps, pyramids, Tutte polynomials and permutations. We completely determine the coefficients of these formulas with the exception of the formula for classical cumulants in terms of monotone cumulants whose coefficients are only partially computed.
