On the domination number of the cartesian product of the path graph and any pair of graphs
It is known that for any graph $G,$ $γ(G\square P_2)\geq γ(G)$ where $γ$ stands for the domination number, $\square$ for the cartesian product and $P_2$ is the path graph on two vertices. In an attempt to prove Vizing's conjecture, Clark and Suen proved in $2000$ that $γ(X\square Y)\geq \frac{1}{2}γ(X)γ(Y)$ for any pair of graphs $X$ and $Y.$ Combining these two inequalities, we have $γ(X\square Y\square P_2)\geq \frac{1}{2}γ(X)γ(Y).$ In this paper, we use space projections to improve this lower bound and show that $γ(X\square Y\square P_2)\geq \frac{2}{3}γ(X)γ(Y)$ for any pair of graphs $X$ and $Y.$ In addition, we prove that $γ(X\square Y\square P_{n})\geq c_nγ(X)γ(Y)γ(P_{n}),$ where $c_n$ is almost $\frac{3}{4}$ when $n$ is big enough.

A note on the structure coefficients of the centraliser algebra
In this note we generalize the definition of partial permutations of Ivanov and Kerov and we build a universal algebra which projects onto the m-centraliser algebra defined by Creedon. We use it to present a new proof for the polynomiality property of the structure coefficients of the m-centraliser algebra and to obtain upper bounds for the polynomial degrees.

Generalized characters of the generalized symmetric group
We prove that $(\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n \times \mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}, \text{diag} (\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}) )$ is a symmetric Gelfand pair, where $\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n$ is the wreath product of the cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}_k$ with the symmetric group $\mathcal{S}_n.$ The proof is based on the study of the $\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}$-conjugacy classes of $\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n.$ We define the generalized characters of $\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n$ using the zonal spherical functions of $(\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n \times \mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}, \text{diag} (\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}) ).$ We show that these generalized characters have properties similar to usual characters. A Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for the generalized characters of the hyperoctahedral group is presented. The generalized characters of the symmetric group were first studied by Strahov in [7].

The algebra of conjugacy classes of the wreath product of a finite group with the symmetric group

For a finite group $G,$ we define the concept of $G$-partial permutation and use it to show that the structure coefficients of the center of the wreath product $G\wr \mathcal{S}_n$ algebra are polynomials in $n$ with non-negative integer coefficients. Our main tool is a combinatorial algebra which projects onto the center of the group $G\wr \mathcal{S}_n$ algebra for every $n.$ This generalizes the Ivanov and Kerov method to prove the polynomiality property for the structure coefficients of the center of the symmetric group algebra.

Gelfand pairs involving the wreath product of finite abelian groups with symmetric groups
Published in Canadian Mathematical Bulletin 64(1) (2021) 91-97 • View PublicationBIB
It is well known that the pair $(\mathcal{S}_n,\mathcal{S}_{n-1})$ is a Gelfand pair where $\mathcal{S}_n$ is the symmetric group on $n$ elements. In this paper, we prove that if $G$ is a finite group then $(G\wr \mathcal{S}_n, G\wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}),$ where $G\wr \mathcal{S}_n$ is the wreath product of $G$ by $\mathcal{S}_n,$ is a Gelfand pair if and only if $G$ is abelian.

We show that the $\mathcal{H}_{n-1}$-conjugacy classes of $\mathcal{H}_n,$ where $\mathcal{H}_n$ is the hyperoctahedral group on $2n$ elements, are indexed by marked bipartitions of $n.$ This will lead us to prove that $(\mathcal{H}_n\times \mathcal{H}_{n-1},diag (\mathcal{H}_{n-1}))$ is a symmetric Gelfand pair and that the induced representation $1_{diag (\mathcal{H}_{n-1})}^{\mathcal{H}_n\times \mathcal{H}_{n-1}}$ is multiplicity free.

$k$-partial permutations and the center of the wreath product $\mathcal{S}_k\wr \mathcal{S}_n$ algebra
Published in Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics 53(2) (2021) 389-412 • View PublicationBIB
We generalize the concept of partial permutations of Ivanov and Kerov and introduce $k$-partial permutations. This allows us to show that the structure coefficients of the center of the wreath product $\mathcal{S}_k\wr \mathcal{S}_n$ algebra are polynomials in $n$ with non-negative integer coefficients. We use a universal algebra $\mathcal{I}_\infty^k$ which projects on the center $Z(\mathbb{C}[\mathcal{S}_k\wr \mathcal{S}_n])$ for each $n.$ We show that $\mathcal{I}_\infty^k$ is isomorphic to the algebra of shifted symmetric functions on many alphabets.

The center of the wreath product of symmetric groups algebra
Published in Algebra and Discrete Mathematics 31(2) (2021) 302-322 • View PublicationBIB
We consider the wreath product of two symmetric groups as a group of blocks permutations and we study its conjugacy classes. We give a polynomiality property for the structure coefficients of the center of the wreath product of symmetric groups algebra. This allows us to recover an old result of Farahat and Higman about the polynomiality of the structure coefficients of the center of the symmetric group algebra and to generalize our recent result about the polynomiality property of the structure coefficients of the center of the hyperoctahedral group algebra. A particular attention is paid to the cases when the blocks contain two or three elements.

A general framework for the polynomiality property of the structure coefficients of double-class algebras

Take a sequence of couples $(G_n,K_n)_n$, where $G_n$ is a group and $K_n$ is a sub-group of $G_n.$ Under some conditions, we are able to give a formula that shows the form of the structure coefficients that appear in the product of double-classes of $K_n$ in $G_n.$ We show how this can give us a similar result for the structure coefficients of the centers of group algebras. These formulas allow us to re-obtain the polynomiality property of the structure coefficients in the cases of the center of the symmetric group algebra and the Hecke algebra of the pair $(\mathcal{S}_{2n},\mathcal{B}_{n}).$ We also give a new polynomiality property for the structure coefficients of the center of the hyperoctahedral group algebra and the double-class algebra $\mathbb{C}[diag(\mathcal{S}_{n-1})\setminus \mathcal{S}_n\times \mathcal{S}^{opp}_{n-1}/ diag(\mathcal{S}_{n-1})].$

A Frobenius formula for the structure coefficients of double-class algebras of Gelfand pairs
Published in Communications in Algebra 45(11) (2017) 4944-4959 • View PublicationBIB
We generalise some well known properties of irreducible characters of finite groups to zonal spherical functions of Gelfand pairs. This leads to a Frobenius formula for Gelfand pairs. For a given Gelfand pair, the structure coefficients of its associated double-class algebra can be written in terms of zonal spherical functions. This is a generalisation of the Frobenius formula which writes the structure coefficients of the center of a finite group algebra in terms of irreducible characters.

Polynomialité des coefficients de structure des algèbres de doubles-classes
In this thesis we studied the structure coefficients and especially their dependence on $n$ in the case of a sequence of double-class algebras. The first chapter is dedicated to the study of the structure coefficients in the general cases of centers of group algebras and double-class algebras. We recall in it the representation theory of finite groups and its link with structure coefficients. We show also that the study of the structure coefficients of double-class algebras is related to the theory of Gelfand pairs and zonal spherical functions by giving, in the case of Gelfand pairs, a theorem similar to that of Frobenius which writes the structure coefficients of the double-class algebra associated to a Gelfand pair in terms of zonal spherical functions. In the second chapter, we recall the Farahat and Higman's theorem about the polynomiality of the structure coefficients of the center of the symmetric group algebra as well as the Ivanov and Kerov's approach to prove this theorem. We give a combinatorial proof to the polynomiality property of the structure coefficients of the Hecke algebra of the pair $(S_{2n},B_n)$ in the third chapter. Our proof uses a universal algebra which projects on the Hecke algebra of $(S_{2n}, B_n)$ for each $n.$ We show that this universal algebra is isomorphic to the algebra of $2$-shifted symmetric functions. In the fourth and last chapter we build a general framework which gives us the form of the structure coefficients in the case of a sequence of double-class algebras. This framework implies the polynomiality property of the structure coefficients of both the center of the symmetric group algebra and the Hecke algebra of $(S_{2n},B_n).$ In addition, we give a polynomiality property for the structure coefficients of both the center of the hyperoctahedral group algebra and the double-class algebra of $diag(S_{n-1})$ in $S_n\times S_{n-1}^{opp}.$

Structure coefficients of the Hecke algebra of $(S_{2n},B_n)$
Published in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 21(4) (2014) 4-35 • View PublicationBIB
The Hecke algebra of the pair $(S_{2n},B_n)$, where $B_n$ is the hyperoctahedral subgroup of $S_{2n}$, was introduced by James in 1961. It is a natural analogue of the center of the symmetric group algebra. In this paper, we give a polynomiality property of its structure coefficients. Our main tool is a combinatorial universal algebra which projects on the Hecke algebra of $(S_{2n},B_n)$ for every $n$. To build it, we introduce new objects called partial bijections.
