Rainbow connectivity of multilayered random geometric graphs
An edge-colored multigraph $G$ is rainbow connected if every pair of vertices is joined by at least one rainbow path, i.e., a path where no two edges are of the same color. In the context of multilayered networks we introduce the notion of multilayered random geometric graphs, from $h\ge 2$ independent random geometric graphs $G(n,r)$ on the unit square. We define an edge-coloring by coloring the edges according to the copy of $G(n,r)$ they belong to and study the rainbow connectivity of the resulting edge-colored multigraph. We show that $r(n)=\left(\frac{\log n}{n}\right)^{\frac{h-1}{2h}}$ is a threshold of the radius for the property of being rainbow connected. This complements the known analogous results for the multilayerd graphs defined on the Erdős-R\' enyi random model.
List 3-Coloring on Comb-Convex and Caterpillar-Convex Bipartite Graphs

Given a graph $G=(V, E)$ and a list of available colors $L(v)$ for each vertex $v\in V$, where $L(v) \subseteq \{1, 2, \ldots, k\}$, List $k$-Coloring refers to the problem of assigning colors to the vertices of $G$ so that each vertex receives a color from its own list and no two neighboring vertices receive the same color. The decision version of the problem List $3$-Coloring is NP-complete even for bipartite graphs, and its complexity on comb-convex bipartite graphs has been an open problem. We give a polynomial-time algorithm to solve List $3$-Coloring for caterpillar-convex bipartite graphs, a superclass of comb-convex bipartite graphs. We also give a polynomial-time recognition algorithm for the class of caterpillar-convex bipartite graphs.
Block Elimination Distance

We introduce the block elimination distance as a measure of how close a graph is to some particular graph class. Formally, given a graph class ${\cal G}$, the class ${\cal B}({\cal G})$ contains all graphs whose blocks belong to ${\cal G}$ and the class ${\cal A}({\cal G})$ contains all graphs where the removal of a vertex creates a graph in ${\cal G}$. Given a hereditary graph class ${\cal G}$, we recursively define ${\cal G}^{(k)}$ so that ${\cal G}^{(0)}={\cal B}({\cal G})$ and, if $k\geq 1$, ${\cal G}^{(k)}={\cal B}({\cal A}({\cal G}^{(k-1)}))$. The block elimination distance of a graph $G$ to a graph class ${\cal G}$ is the minimum $k$ such that $G\in{\cal G}^{(k)}$ and can be seen as an analog of the elimination distance parameter, with the difference that connectivity is now replaced by biconnectivity. We show that, for every non-trivial hereditary class ${\cal G}$, the problem of deciding whether $G\in{\cal G}^{(k)}$ is NP-complete. We focus on the case where ${\cal G}$ is minor-closed and we study the minor obstruction set of ${\cal G}^{(k)}$. We prove that the size of the obstructions of ${\cal G}^{(k)}$ is upper bounded by some explicit function of $k$ and the maximum size of a minor obstruction of ${\cal G}$. This implies that the problem of deciding whether $G\in{\cal G}^{(k)}$ is constructively fixed parameter tractable, when parameterized by $k$. Our results are based on a structural characterization of the obstructions of ${\cal B}({\cal G})$, relatively to the obstructions of ${\cal G}$. We give two graph operations that generate members of ${\cal G}^{(k)}$ from members of ${\cal G}^{(k-1)}$ and we prove that this set of operations is complete for the class ${\cal O}$ of outerplanar graphs. This yields the identification of all members ${\cal O}\cap{\cal G}^{(k)}$, for every $k\in\mathbb{N}$ and every non-trivial minor-closed graph class ${\cal G}$.
On List k-Coloring Convex Bipartite Graphs
List k-Coloring (Li k-Col) is the decision problem asking if a given graph admits a proper coloring compatible with a given list assignment to its vertices with colors in {1,2,..,k}. The problem is known to be NP-hard even for k=3 within the class of 3-regular planar bipartite graphs and for k=4 within the class of chordal bipartite graphs. In 2015, Huang, Johnson and Paulusma asked for the complexity of Li 3-Col in the class of chordal bipartite graphs. In this paper we give a partial answer to this question by showing that Li k-Col is polynomial in the class of convex bipartite graphs. We show first that biconvex bipartite graphs admit a multichain ordering, extending the classes of graphs where a polynomial algorithm of Enright, Stewart and Tardos (2014) can be applied to the problem. We provide a dynamic programming algorithm to solve the Li k-Col in the calss of convex bipartite graphs. Finally we show how our algorithm can be modified to solve the more general Li H-Col problem on convex bipartite graphs.
Contraction and Deletion Blockers for Perfect Graphs and $H$-free Graphs

We study the following problem: for given integers $d$, $k$ and graph $G$, can we reduce some fixed graph parameter $π$ of $G$ by at least $d$ via at most $k$ graph operations from some fixed set $S$? As parameters we take the chromatic number $χ$, clique number $ω$ and independence number $α$, and as operations we choose the edge contraction ec and vertex deletion vd. We determine the complexity of this problem for $S=\{\mbox{ec}\}$ and $S=\{\mbox{vd}\}$ and $π\in \{χ,ω,α\}$ for a number of subclasses of perfect graphs. We use these results to determine the complexity of the problem for $S=\{\mbox{ec}\}$ and $S=\{\mbox{vd}\}$ and $π\in \{χ,ω,α\}$ restricted to $H$-free graphs.
