Advances on two spectral conjectures regarding booksize of graphs
The \emph{booksize} $ \mathrm{bk}(G) \) of a graph $ G $, introduced by Erdős, refers to the maximum integer $ r $ for which $G$ contains the book $ B_r $ as a subgraph. This paper investigates two open problems in spectral graph theory related to the booksize of graphs.
First, we prove that for any positive integer $r$ and any $ B_{r+1} $-free graph $ G $ with $ m \geq (9r)^2 $ edges, the spectral radius satisfies $ ρ(G) \leq \sqrt{m} $. Equality holds if and only if $ G $ is a complete bipartite graph. This result improves the lower bound on the booksize of Nosal graphs (i.e., graphs with $ ρ(G) > \sqrt{m} $) from the previously established $ \mathrm{bk}(G) > \frac{1}{144}\sqrt{m} $ to $ \mathrm{bk}(G) > \frac{1}{9}\sqrt{m} $, presenting a significant advancement in the booksize conjecture proposed Li, Liu, and Zhang.
Second, we show that for any positive integer $r$ and any non-bipartite $ B_{r+1} $-free graph $ G $ with $ m \geq (240r)^2 $ edges, the spectral radius $ρ$ satisfies $ρ^2<m-1+\frac{2}{ρ-1}$, unless $G$ is isomorphic to $S^+_{m,s}$ for some $s\in\{1,\ldots,r\}$. This resolves Liu and Miao's conjecture and further reveals an interesting phenomenon: even with a weaker spectral condition, $ρ^2\geq m-1+\frac2{ρ-1}$, we can still derive the supersaturation of the booksize for non-bipartite graphs.
Spectral Radius of Graphs with Size Constraints: Resolving a Conjecture of Guiduli
We resolve a problem posed by Guiduli (1996) on the spectral radius of graphs satisfying the Hereditarily Bounded Property $P_{t,r}$, which requires that every subgraph $H$ with $|V(H)| \geq t$ satisfies $|E(H)| \leq t|V(H)| + r$. For an $n$-vertex graph $G$ satisfying $P_{t,r}$, where $t > 0$ and $r \geq -\binom{\lfloor t+1 \rfloor}{2}$, we prove that the spectral radius $ρ(G)$ is bounded above by $ρ(G) \leq c(s,t) + \sqrt{\lfloor t \rfloor n}$, where $s = \binom{\lfloor t \rfloor + 1}{2} + r$, thus affirmatively answering Guiduli's conjecture.
Furthermore, we present a complete characterization of the extremal graphs that achieve this bound. These graphs are constructed as the join graph $K_{\lfloor t \rfloor} \nabla F$, where $F$ is either $K_3 \cup (n - \lfloor t \rfloor - 3)K_1$ or a forest consisting solely of star structures. The specific structure of such forests is meticulously characterized.
Central to our analysis is the introduction of a novel potential function $η(F) = e(F) + (\lfloor t \rfloor - t)|V(F)|$, which quantifies the structural "positivity" of subgraphs. By combining edge-shifting operations with spectral radius maximization principles, we establish sharp bounds on $η^+(G)$, the cumulative positivity of $G$. Our results contribute to the understanding of spectral extremal problems under edge-density constraints and provide a framework for analyzing similar hereditary properties.
On the chromatic number of some ($P_3\cup P_2$)-free graphs
A hereditary class $\cal G$ of graphs is {\em $χ$-bounded} if there is a {\em $χ$-binding function}, say $f$, such that $χ(G)\le f(ω(G))$ for every $G\in\cal G$, where $χ(G)(ω(G))$ denotes the chromatic (clique) number of $G$. It is known that for every $(P_3\cup P_2)$-free graph $G$, $χ(G)\le \frac{1}{6}ω(G)(ω(G)+1)(ω(G)+2)$ \cite{BA18}, and the class of $(2K_2, 3K_1)$-free graphs does not admit a linear $χ$-binding function\cite{BBS19}. In this paper, we prove that (\romannumeral 1) $χ(G)\le2ω(G)$ if $G$ is ($P_3\cup P_2$, kite)-free, (\romannumeral 2) $χ(G)\leω^2(G)$ if $G$ is ($P_3\cup P_2$, hammer)-free, (\romannumeral 3) $χ(G)\le\frac{3ω^2(G)+ω(G)}{2}$ if $G$ is ($P_3\cup P_2, C_5$)-free. Furthermore, we also discuss $χ$-binding functions for $(P_3\cup P_2, K_4)$-free graphs.
A tight linear chromatic bound for ($P_3\cup P_2, W_4$)-free graphs
For two vertex disjoint graphs $H$ and $F$, we use $H\cup F$ to denote the graph with vertex set $V(H)\cup V(F)$ and edge set $E(H)\cup E(F)$, and use $H+F$ to denote the graph with vertex set $V(H)\cup V(F)$ and edge set $E(H)\cup E(F)\cup\{xy\;|\; x\in V(H), y\in V(F)$$\}$. A $W_4$ is the graph $K_1+C_4$. In this paper, we prove that $χ(G)\le 2ω(G)$ if $G$ is a ($P_3\cup P_2, W_4$)-free graph. This bound is tight when $ω=2$ and $3$, and improves the main result of Wang and Zhang. Also, this bound partially generalizes some results of Prashant {\em et al.}.
Optimal chromatic bound for ($P_3\cup P_2$, house)-free graphs
Let $G$ and $H$ be two vertex disjoint graphs. The {\em union} $G\cup H$ is the graph with $V(G\cup H)=V(G)\cup V(H)$ and $E(G\cup H)=E(G)\cup E(H)$. We use $P_k$ to denote a {\em path} on $k$ vertices, use {\em house} to denote the complement of $P_5$. In this paper, we show that $χ(G)\le2ω(G)$ if $G$ is ($P_3\cup P_2$, house)-free. Moreover, this bound is optimal when $ω(G)\ge2$.
Constructing edge-disjoint Steiner trees in Cartesian product networks
Cartesian product networks are always regarded as a tool for ``combining'' two given networks with established properties to obtain a new one that inherits properties from both. For a graph $F=(V,E)$ and a set $S\subseteq V(F)$ of at least two vertices, \emph{an $S$-Steiner tree} or \emph{a Steiner tree connecting $S$} (or simply, \emph{an $S$-tree}) is a subgraph $T=(V',E')$ of $F$ that is a tree with $S\subseteq V'$. For $S\subseteq V(F)$ and $|S|\geq 2$, the {\it generalized local edge-connectivity} $λ(S)$ is the maximum number of edge-disjoint Steiner trees connecting $S$ in $F$. For an integer $k$ with $2\leq k\leq n$, the {\it generalized $k$-edge-connectivity} $λ_k(F)$ of a graph $F$ is defined as $λ_k(F)=\min\{λ(S)\,|\,S\subseteq V(F) \ and \ |S|=k\}$.In this paper, we give sharp upper and lower bounds for $λ_k(G\Box H)$, where $\Box$ is the Cartesian product operation, and $G,H$ are two graphs.

DP-coloring was introduced by Dvořák and Postle as a generalization of list coloring. It was originally used to solve a longstanding conjecture by Borodin, stating that every planar graph without cycles of lengths 4 to 8 is 3-choosable. In this paper, we give three sufficient conditions for a planar graph to be DP-4-colorable. Actually all the results (Theorem 1.3, 1.4 and 1.7) are stated in the ``color extendability'' form, and uniformly proved by vertex identification and discharging method.

DP-coloring was introduced by Dvořák and Postle as a generalization of list coloring and signed coloring. A new coloring, strictly $f$-degenerate transversal, is a further generalization of DP-coloring and $L$-forested-coloring. In this paper, we present some structural results on planar and toroidal graphs with forbidden configurations, and establish some sufficient conditions for the existence of strictly $f$-degenerate transversal based on these structural results. Consequently, (i) every toroidal graph without subgraphs isomorphic to the configurations in Fig.2 is DP-$4$-colorable, and has list vertex arboricity at most $2$, (ii) every toroidal graph without $4$-cycles is DP-$4$-colorable, and has list vertex arboricity at most $2$, (iii) every planar graph without subgraphs isomorphic to the configurations in Fig.3 is DP-$4$-colorable, and has list vertex arboricity at most $2$. These results improve upon previous results on DP-$4$-coloring [Discrete Math. 341~(7) (2018) 1983--1986; Bull. Malays. Math. Sci. Soc. 43~(3) (2020) 2271--2285] and (list) vertex arboricity [Discrete Math. 333 (2014) 101--105; Int. J. Math. Stat. 16~(1) (2015) 97--105; Iranian Math. Soc. 42~(5) (2016) 1293--1303].
