A new characterization of the set of Laplacian spectral radii of trees
For any positive integer $r$ and real number $α>1$, let ${\mathscr L}_r(α)$ denote the set of positive real numbers defined recursively: $α-1\in {\mathscr L}_r(α)$, and for any multi-subset $\{q_1,q_2,\dots,q_s\}$ of ${\mathscr L}_r(α)$, where $0<s<r$, $β:=α-1-s-\sum_{i=1}^sq_i^{-1}$ belongs to ${\mathscr L}_r(α)$ as long as $β>0$. We show that $(α-1)^{-1}\in {\mathscr L}_r(α)$ if and only if there exists a tree $T$ with its maximum degree $Δ(T)\le r$ and Laplacian spectral radius $μ(T)=α>1$. It follows that the set of Laplacian spectral radii of non-trivial trees is exactly the set of real numbers $α\ge 2$ such that $(α-1)^{-1}\in {\mathscr L}_r(α)$ for $r=\lfloorα\rfloor-1$. Applying this conclusion, we then show that for any integer $n$, there exists a tree $T$ with $Δ(T)<n$ and $μ(T)=n+1$ if and only if $n\ge 4$.
Existence of trees with prescribed maximum degrees and spectral radii
It is well known that the spectral radius $ρ(T)$ of a tree $T$ with at least $3$ vertices has the property that $\frac 14ρ(T)^2+1<Δ(T)\le ρ(T)^2$, where $Δ(T)$ is the maximum degree of $T$. Let $\mathbb{P}$ denote the set of spectral radii of all non-trivial trees. In this article, we study the inverse problem that for any $α\in \mathbb{P}$ and integer $r$ satisfying the condition $\frac 14α^2+1<r\le α^2$, is there a tree $T$ such that $Δ(T)=r$ and $ρ(T)=α$?
For any positive integer $r$ and positive number $α$, let ${\mathscr W}_r(α)$ denote a set of non-negative real numbers defined as follows: $α\in {\mathscr W}_r(α)$, and for any multi-set $\{q_i\in {\mathscr W}_r(α): q_i>0, 1\le i\le s\}$, if $β:=α-\sum\limits_{i=1}^sq_i^{-1}\ge 0$ and $s\le r-\left \lceil \fracβ{β+1}\right\rceil$, then $β\in {\mathscr W}_r(α)$. We first show that $0\in {\mathscr W}_r(α)$ if and only if there exists a tree $T$ with $Δ(T)\le r$ and $ρ(T)=α$. It follows directly that $\mathbb{P}$ is exactly the set of positive numbers $α$ such that $0\in {\mathscr W}_{\lfloorα^2\rfloor}(α)$. Applying this conclusion, we prove that for any two positive integers $r\ge 2$ and $k$, there exists a tree $T$ with $Δ(T)=r$ and $ρ(T)=\sqrt k$ if and only if $\frac 14 k+1<r\le k$.
On the colorability of bi-hypergraphs
A {\it mixed hypergraph} ${\cal H}=({\cal V},{\cal C},{\cal D})$ consists of the vertex set ${\cal V}$ and two families of subsets of $2^{\cal V}$: the family ${\cal C}$ of co-edges and the family ${\cal D}$ of edges. ${\cal H}$ is said to be colorable if there is a mapping $f$ from ${\cal V}$ to the set of positive integers such that $|\{f(v):v\in e\}|<|e|$ for each $e\in {\cal C}$ and $|\{f(v):v\in e\}|>1$ for each $e\in {\cal D}$. There exist mixed hypergraphs which are uncolorable, and quite little about these mixed hypergraphs is known. A mixed hypergraph is called a bi-hypergraph if its co-edge set and edge set are the same. In this article, we first apply Lovász local lemma to show that any $r$-uniform bi-hypergraph with $r\ge 4$ is colorable if every edge is incident to less than $(r-1)^{r-1}e^{-1}-1$ other edges, where $e$ is the base of natural logarithms. Then, we show that among all the uncolorable $3$-uniform bi-hypergraphs, the smallest size of a minimal one is ten, which answers a question raised by Tuza and Voloshin in 2000. As an extension, we provide a minimal uncolorable $3$-uniform bi-hypergraph of order $n$ and size at most $\frac{7n}3-4$ for every $n\ge 6$.

An edge labeling of a connected graph $G = (V, E)$ is said to be local antimagic if it is a bijection $f:E \to\{1,\ldots ,|E|\}$ such that for any pair of adjacent vertices $x$ and $y$, $f^+(x)\not= f^+(y)$, where the induced vertex label $f^+(x)= \sum f(e)$, with $e$ ranging over all the edges incident to $x$. The local antimagic chromatic number of $G$, denoted by $χ_{la}(G)$, is the minimum number of distinct induced vertex labels over all local antimagic labelings of $G$. In this paper, we characterize $s$-bridge graphs with local antimagic chromatic number 2.
A note on local antimagic chromatic number of lexicographic product graphs
Let $G = (V,E)$ be a connected simple graph. A bijection $f: E \rightarrow \{1,2,\ldots,|E|\}$ is called a local antimagic labeling of $G$ if $f^+(u) \neq f^+(v)$ holds for any two adjacent vertices $u$ and $v$, where $f^+(u) = \sum_{e\in E(u)} f(e)$ and $E(u$) is the set of edges incident to $u$. A graph $G$ is called local antimagic if $G$ admits at least a local antimagic labeling. The local antimagic chromatic number, denoted $χ_{la}(G)$, is the minimum number of induced colors taken over local antimagic labelings of $G$. Let $G$ and $H$ be two disjoint graphs. The graph $G[H]$ is obtained by the lexicographic product of $G$ and $H$. In this paper, we obtain sufficient conditions for $χ_{la}(G[H])\leq χ_{la}(G)χ_{la}(H)$. Consequently, we give examples of $G$ and $H$ such that $χ_{la}(G[H]) = χ(G)χ(H)$, where $χ(G)$ is the chromatic number of $G$. We conjecture that (i) there are infinitely many graphs $G$ and $H$ such that $χ_{la}(G[H])=χ_{la}(G)χ_{la}(H) = χ(G)χ(H)$, and (ii) for $k\ge 1$, $χ_{la}(G[H]) = χ(G)χ(H)$ if and only if $χ(G)χ(H) = 2χ(H) + \lceil\frac{χ(H)}{k}\rceil$, where $2k+1$ is the length of a shortest odd cycle in $G$.
Zero-free intervals of chromatic polynomials of mixed hypergraphs
In this paper, we prove that $(-\infty, 0)$ is a zero-free interval for chromatic polynomials of a family ${\cal L}_0$ of hypergraphs and $(0, 1)$ is a zero-free interval for chromatic polynomials of a subfamily ${\cal L}_0'$ of ${\cal L}_0$ of hypergraphs. These results extend known results on zero-free intervals of chromatic polynomials of graphs and hypergraphs.

In this paper, we present some properties on chromatic polynomials of hypergraphs which do not hold for chromatic polynomials of graphs. We first show that chromatic polynomials of hypergraphs have all integers as their zeros and contain dense real zeros in the set of real numbers. We then prove that for any multigraph $G=(V,E)$, the number of totally cyclic orientations of $G$ is equal to the value of $|P(H,-1)|$, where $P(H,λ)$ is the chromatic polynomial of a hypergraph $H$ which is constructed from $G$. Finally we show that the multiplicity of root "$0$" of $P(H,λ)$ may be at least $2$ for some connected hypergraphs $H$, and the multiplicity of root "$1$" of $P(H,λ)$ may be $1$ for some connected and separable hypergraphs $H$ and may be $2$ for some connected and non-separable hypergraphs $H$.
