This paper introduces the notion of mesh patterns in multidimensional permutations and initiates a systematic study of singleton mesh patterns (SMPs), which are multidimensional mesh patterns of length 1. A pattern is avoidable if there exist arbitrarily large permutations that do not contain it. As our main result, we give a complete characterization of avoidable SMPs using an invariant of a pattern that we call its rank. We show that determining avoidability for a $d$-dimensional SMP $P$ of cardinality $k$ is an $O(d\cdot k)$ problem, while determining rank of $P$ is an NP-complete problem. Additionally, using the notion of a minus-antipodal pattern, we characterize SMPs which occur at most once in any $d$-dimensional permutation. Lastly, we provide a number of enumerative results regarding the distributions of certain general projective, plus-antipodal, minus-antipodal and hyperplane SMPs.
On five types of crucial permutations with respect to monotone patterns

A crucial permutation is a permutation that avoids a given set of prohibitions, but any of its extensions, in an allowable way, results in a prohibition being introduced.
In this paper, we introduce five natural types of crucial permutations with respect to monotone patterns, notably quadrocrucial permutations that are linked most closely to Erdős-Szekeres extremal permutations. The way we define right-crucial and bicrucial permutations is consistent with the definition of respective permutations studied in the literature in the contexts of other prohibitions. For each of the five types, we provide its characterization in terms of Young tableaux via the RSK correspondence. Moreover, we use the characterizations to prove that the number of such permutations of length $n$ is growing when $n\to\infty$, and to enumerate minimal crucial permutations in all but one case. We also provide other enumerative results.

An infinite permutation can be defined as a linear ordering of the set of natural numbers. In particular, an infinite permutation can be constructed with an aperiodic infinite word over $\{0,\ldots,q-1\}$ as the lexicographic order of the shifts of the word. In this paper, we discuss the question if an infinite permutation defined this way admits a canonical representative, that is, can be defined by a sequence of numbers from [0, 1], such that the frequency of its elements in any interval is equal to the length of that interval. We show that a canonical representative exists if and only if the word is uniquely ergodic, and that is why we use the term ergodic permutations. We also discuss ways to construct the canonical representative of a permutation defined by a morphic word and generalize the construction of Makarov, 2009, for the Thue-Morse permutation to a wider class of infinite words.
Gray coding planar maps

The idea of (combinatorial) Gray codes is to list objects in question in such a way that two successive objects differ in some pre-specified small way. In this paper, we utilize beta-description trees to cyclicly Gray code three classes of cubic planar maps, namely, bicubic planar maps, 3-connected cubic planar maps, and cubic non-separable planar maps.
Distance Regular Colorings of $n$-Dimensional Rectangular Grid
We study the infinite graph of $n$-dimensional rectangular grid that doesn't appear distance regular and the distance regular colorings of this graph, which are defined as the distance colorings with respect to completely regular codes. It is proved that the elements of the parameter matrix of an arbitrary distance regular coloring form two monotonic sequences. It is shown that every irreducible distance regular coloring of the $n$-dimensional rectangular grid has at most $2n+1$ colors.

We say that an infinite word w is weak abelian periodic if it can be factorized into finite words with the same frequencies of letters. In the paper we study properties of weak abelian periodicity, its relations with balance and frequency. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for weak abelian periodicity of fixed points of uniform binary morphisms. Also, we discuss weak abelian periodicity in minimal subshifts.
Crucial and bicrucial permutations with respect to arithmetic monotone patterns
A pattern $τ$ is a permutation, and an arithmetic occurrence of $τ$ in (another) permutation $π=π_1π_2...π_n$ is a subsequence $π_{i_1}π_{i_2}...π_{i_m}$ of $π$ that is order isomorphic to $τ$ where the numbers $i_1<i_2<...<i_m$ form an arithmetic progression. A permutation is $(k,\ell)$-crucial if it avoids arithmetically the patterns $12... k$ and $\ell(\ell-1)... 1$ but its extension to the right by any element does not avoid arithmetically these patterns. A $(k,\ell)$-crucial permutation that cannot be extended to the left without creating an arithmetic occurrence of $12... k$ or $\ell(\ell-1)... 1$ is called $(k,\ell)$-bicrucial.
In this paper we prove that arbitrary long $(k,\ell)$-crucial and $(k,\ell)$-bicrucial permutations exist for any $k,\ell\geq 3$. Moreover, we show that the minimal length of a $(k,\ell)$-crucial permutation is $\max(k,\ell)(\min(k,\ell)-1)$, while the minimal length of a $(k,\ell)$-bicrucial permutation is at most $2\max(k,\ell)(\min(k,\ell)-1)$, again for $k,\ell\geq3$.

If two distance-3 codes have the same neighborhood, then each of them is called a mobile set. In the (4k+3)-dimensional binary hypercube, there exists a mobile set of cardinality 2*6^k that cannot be split into mobile sets of smaller cardinalities or represented as a natural extension of a mobile set in a hypercube of smaller dimension. Keywords: mobile set; 1-perfect code.
On uniquely k-determined permutations
There are several approaches to study occurrences of consecutive patterns in permutations such as the inclusion-exclusion method, the tree representations of permutations, the spectral approach and others. We propose yet another approach to study occurrences of consecutive patterns in permutations. The approach is based on considering the graph of patterns overlaps, which is a certain subgraph of the de Bruijn graph.
While applying our approach, the notion of a uniquely $k$-determined permutation appears. We give two criteria for a permutation to be uniquely $k$-determined: one in terms of the distance between two consecutive elements in a permutation, and the other one in terms of directed hamiltonian paths in the certain graphs called path-schemes. Moreover, we describe a finite set of prohibitions that gives the set of uniquely $k$-determined permutations. Those prohibitions make applying the transfer matrix method possible for determining the number of uniquely $k$-determined permutations.

We present a construction of 1-perfect binary codes, which gives a new lower bound on the number of such codes. We conjecture that this lower bound is asymptotically tight.
