How structure groups and monoids grow
The structure groups and monoids of set-theoretic solutions to the Yang-Baxter Equation can be regarded as deformations of free abelian groups resp. monoids. In this work, we obtain explicit formulae for the growth series of the structure groups and monoids of transposition and dihedral quandles, and of the structure groups of permutation quandles. These quandles provide important families of YBE solutions. The intricate nature of our formulae confirms that, while preserving many nice properties of free abelian groups, even the simplest structure groups and monoids are remarkably rich objects. We also establish some structural properties and easily computable normal forms for the monoids considered.

Cactus groups Jn are currently attracting considerable interest from diverse mathematical communities. This work explores their relations to right-angled Coxeter groups, and in particular twin groups Twn and Mostovoy's Gauss diagram groups Dn, which are better understood. Concretely, we construct an injective group 1-cocycle from Jn to Dn, and show that Twn (and its k-leaf generalisations) inject into Jn. As a corollary, we solve the word problem for cactus groups, determine their torsion (which is only even) and center (which is trivial), and answer the same questions for pure cactus groups, PJn. In addition, we yield a 1-relator presentation of the first non-abelian pure cactus group PJ4. Our tools come mainly from combinatorial group theory.

We exhibit explicit and easily realisable bijections between Hecke--Kiselman monoids of type $A_n$/$\widetilde{A}_n$; certain braid diagrams on the plane/cylinder; and couples of integer sequences of particular types. This yields a fast solution of the word problem and an efficient normal form for these HK monoids. Yang--Baxter type actions play an important role in our constructions.
Plactic monoids: a braided approach

Young tableaux carry an associative product, described by the Schensted algorithm. They thus form a monoid $\mathbf{Pl}$, called \emph{plactic}. It is central in numerous combinatorial and algebraic applications. In this paper, the tableaux product is shown to be completely determined by a braiding $σ$ on the (much simpler!) set of columns $\mathbf{Col}$. Here a \emph{braiding} is a set-theoretic solution to the Yang--Baxter equation. As an application, we identify the Hochschild cohomology of $\mathbf{Pl}$, which resists classical approaches, with the more accessible braided cohomology of $(\mathbf{Col},σ)$. The cohomological dimension of $\mathbf{Pl}$ is obtained as a corollary. Also, the braiding~$σ$ is proved to commute with the classical crystal reflection operators~$s\_i$.
