A graph $ G $ is minimally $ t $-tough if the toughness of $ G $ is $ t $ and deletion of any edge from $ G $ decreases its toughness. Katona et al. conjectured that the minimum degree of any minimally $ t $-tough graph is $ \lceil 2t\rceil $ and gave some upper bounds on the minimum degree of the minimally $ t $-tough graphs in \cite{Katona, Gyula}. In this paper, we show that a minimally 1-tough graph $ G $ with girth $ g\geq 5 $ has minimum degree at most $ \lfloor\frac{n}{g+1}\rfloor+g-1$, and a minimally $ 1 $-tough graph with girth $ 4 $ has minimum degree at most $ \frac{n+6}{4}$. We also prove that the minimum degree of minimally $\frac{3}2$-tough claw-free graphs is $ 3 $.
An excluded minor theorem for the Wagner graph plus an edge
Let $V_{8}+e$ denote the unique graph obtained from the Wagner graph, also known as $V_{8}$, by adding an edge between two vertices of distance 3 on the Hamilton cycle, which is exactly a split of a minor of the Petersen graph. A complete characterization of all internally 4-connected graphs with no $V_{8}$ minor is given in [J. Maharry and N. Robertson, The structure of graphs not topologically containing the Wagner graph, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 121 (2016) 398-420]. In this paper we characterize all internally 4-connected graphs with no $V_{8}+e$ minor.

Let $F$ be an $(r+1)$-color critical graph with $r\geq 2$, that is, $χ(F)=r+1$ and there is an edge $e$ in $F$ such that $χ(F-e)=r$. Gerbner recently conjectured that every $n$-vertex maximal $F$-free graph with at least $(1-\frac{1}{r})\frac{n^2}{2}- o(n^{\frac{r+1}{r}})$ edges contains an induced complete $r$-partite graph on $n-o(n)$ vertices. Let $F_{s,k}$ be a graph obtained from $s$ copies of $C_{2k+1}$ by sharing a common edge. In this paper, we show that for all $k\geq 2$ if $G$ is an $n$-vertex maximal $F_{s,k}$-free graph with at least $n^{2}/4 - o(n^{\frac{s+2}{s+1}})$ edges, then $G$ contains an induced complete bipartite graph on $n-o(n)$ vertices. We also show that it is best possible. This disproves Gerbner's conjecture for $r=2$.
A $C_{4}$-decomposition of the $λ$-fold line graph of $K_{m,n}$
The small cycle decompositions of line graph ($λ$-fold line graph) of complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs are studied by many papers. In particular, Colby and Rodger obtained necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a $C_{4}$-decomposition of the $λ$-fold line graph of $K_{n}$, and Ganesamurthy and Paulraja completely determined the values of $n$ and $λ$ for which the $λ$-fold line graph of $K_{n}$ has a $C_{5}$-decomposition. In this paper, we obtain the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a $C_{4}$-decomposition of the $λ$-fold line graph of $K_{m,n}$.
Planar graphs without cycles of length from 4 to 7 are near-bipartite
A graph is near-bipartite if its vertex set can be partitioned into an independent set and a set which induces a forest. In this paper, planar graphs without cycles of length from 4 to 7 are shown to be near-bipartite.

A graph $G$ is $l$-path Hamiltonian if every path of length not exceeding $l$ is contained in a Hamiltonian cycle. It is well known that a 2-connected, $k$-regular graph $G$ on at most $3k-1$ vertices is edge-Hamiltonian if for every edge $uv$ of $G$, $\{u,v\}$ is not a cut-set. Thus $G$ is 1-path Hamiltonian if $G\setminus \{u,v\}$ is connected for every edge $uv$ of $G$. Let $P=uvz$ be a 2-path of a 2-connected, $k$-regular graph $G$ on at most $2k$ vertices. In this paper, we show that there is a Hamiltonian cycle containing the 2-path $P$ if $G\setminus V(P)$ is connected. Therefore, the work implies a condition for a 2-connected, $k$-regular graph to be 2-path Hamiltonian. An example shows that the $2k$ is almost sharp, i.e., the number is at most $2k+1$.
Biharmonic distance of graphs
Lipman et al. [ACM Transactions on Graphics 29 (3) (2010), 1--11] introduced the concept of biharmonic distance to measure the distances between pairs of points on a 3D surface. Biharmonic distance has some advantages over resistance distance and geodesic distance in some realistic contexts. Nevertheless, limited work has been done on the biharmonic distance in the discrete case. In this paper, we give some characterizations of the biharmonic distance of a graph. Some basic mathematical properties of biharmonic distance and biharmonic index are established.

Let $Oct_{1}^{+}$ and $Oct_{2}^{+}$ be the planar and non-planar graphs that obtained from the Octahedron by 3-splitting a vertex respectively. For $Oct_{1}^{+}$, we prove that a 4-connected graph is $Oct_{1}^{+}$-free if and only if it is $C_{6}^{2}$, $C_{2k+1}^{2}$ $(k \geq 2)$ or it is obtained from $C_{5}^{2}$ by repeatedly 4-splitting vertices. We also show that a planar graph is $Oct_{1}^{+}$-free if and only if it is constructed by repeatedly taking 0-, 1-, 2-sums starting from $\{K_{1}, K_{2} ,K_{3}\} \cup \mathscr{K} \cup \{Oct,L_{5} \}$, where $\mathscr{K}$ is the set of graphs obtained by repeatedly taking the special 3-sums of $K_{4}$. For $Oct_{2}^{+}$, we prove that a 4-connected graph is $Oct_{2}^{+}$-free if and only if it is planar, $C_{2k+1}^{2}$ $(k \geq 2)$, $L(K_{3,3})$ or it is obtained from $C_{5}^{2}$ by repeatedly 4-splitting vertices.
On traceable iterated line graph and hamiltonian path index
Xiong and Liu [L. Xiong and Z. Liu, Hamiltonian iterated line graphs, Discrete Math. 256 (2002) 407-422] gave a characterization of the graphs $G$ for which the $n$-th iterated line graph $L^n(G)$ is hamiltonian, for $n\ge2$. In this paper, we study the existence of a hamiltonian path in $L^n(G)$, and give a characterization of $G$ for which $L^n(G)$ has a hamiltonian path. As applications, we use this characterization to give several upper bounds on the hamiltonian path index of a graph.

The $g$-extra edge-connectivity is an important measure for the reliability of interconnection networks. Recently, Yang et al. [Appl. Math. Comput. 320 (2018) 464--473] determined the $3$-extra edge-connectivity of balanced hypercubes $BH_n$ and conjectured that the $g$-extra edge-connectivity of $BH_n$ is $λ_g(BH_n)=2(g+1)n-4g+4$ for $2\leq g\leq 2n-1$. In this paper, we confirm their conjecture for $n\geq 6-\dfrac{12}{g+1}$ and $2\leq g\leq 8$, and disprove their conjecture for $n\geq \dfrac{3e_g(BH_n)}{g+1}$ and $9\leq g\leq 2n-1$, where $e_g(BH_n)=\max\{|E(BH_n[U])|\mid U\subseteq V(BH_n), |U|=g+1\}$.

Zhu et al. [Theoret. Comput. Sci. 758 (2019) 1--8] introduced the $h$-edge tolerable diagnosability to measure the fault diagnosis capability of a multiprocessor system with faulty links. This kind of diagnosability is a generalization of the concept of traditional diagnosability. A graph is called a maximally connected graph if its minimum degree equals its vertex connectivity. It is well-known that many irregular networks are maximally connected graphs and the $h$-edge tolerable diagnosabilities of these networks are unknown, which is our motivation for research. In this paper, we obtain the lower bound of the $h$-edge tolerable diagnosability of a $t$-connected graph and establish the $h$-edge tolerable diagnosability of a maximally connected graph under the PMC model and the MM$^*$ model, which extends some results in [IEEE Trans. Comput. 23 (1974) 86--88], [IEEE Trans. Comput. 53 (2004) 1582--1590] and [Theoret. Comput. Sci. 796 (2019) 147--153].
The maximum number of triangles in graphs without large linear forests
Let $G$ be a graph on $n$ vertices. A linear forest is a graph consisting of vertex-disjoint paths and isolated vertices. A maximum linear forest of $G$ is a subgraph of $G$ with maximum number of edges, which is a linear forest. We denote by $l(G)$ this maximum number. Let $t=\left\lfloor (k-1)/2\right \rfloor$. Recently, Ning and Wang \cite{boning} proved that if $l(G)=k-1$, then for any $k<n$ \[ e(G) \leq \max \left\{\binom{k}{2},\binom{t}{2}+t (n - t)+ c \right\}, \] where $c=0$ if $k$ is odd and $c=1$ otherwise, and the inequality is tight. In this paper, we prove that if $l(G)=k-1$ and $δ(G)=δ$ ($δ<\lfloor k/2 \rfloor$), then for any $k<n$ \[ e(G) \leq \max \left\{\binom{k-δ}{2}+δ(n-k+δ),\binom{t}{2}+t\left(n-t\right)+c \right\}. \] When $δ=0$, it reduces to Ning and Wang's result. Moreover, let $r_3(G)$ be the number of triangles in $G$. We prove that if $l(G)=k-1$ and $δ(G)= δ$, then for any $k<n$ \[ r_3(G)\leq \max \left\{\binom{k-δ}{3}+\binomδ{2}(n-k+δ),\binom{t}{3}+\binom{t}{2}\left(n-t\right)+d \right\}. \] where $d=0$ if $k$ is odd and $d=t$ otherwise.
The Turán problem for a family of tight linear forests
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a family of $r$-graphs. The Turán number $ex_r(n;\mathcal{F})$ is defined to be the maximum number of edges in an $r$-graph of order $n$ that is $\mathcal{F}$-free. The famous Erdős Matching Conjecture shows that \[ ex_r(n,M_{k+1}^{(r)})= \max\left\{\binom{rk+r-1}{r},\binom{n}{r}-\binom{n-k}{r}\right\}, \] where $M_{k+1}^{(r)}$ represents the $r$-graph consisting of $k+1$ disjoint edges. Motivated by this conjecture, we consider the Turán problem for tight linear forests. A tight linear forest is an $r$-graph whose connected components are all tight paths or isolated vertices. Let $\mathcal{L}_{n,k}^{(r)}$ be the family of all tight linear forests of order $n$ with $k$ edges in $r$-graphs. In this paper, we prove that for sufficiently large $n$, \[ ex_r(n;\mathcal{L}_{n,k}^{(r)})=\max\left\{\binom{k}{r}, \binom{n}{r}-\binom{n-\left\lfloor (k-1)/r\right \rfloor}{r}\right\}+d, \] where $d=o(n^r)$ and if $r=3$ and $k=cn$ with $0<c<1$, if $r\geq 4$ and $k=cn$ with $0<c<1/2$. The proof is based on the weak regularity lemma for hypergraphs. We also conjecture that for arbitrary $k$ satisfying $k \equiv 1\ (mod\ r)$, the error term $d$ in the above result equals 0. We prove that the proposed conjecture implies the Erdős Matching Conjecture directly.

It is well known that the labeling problems of graphs arise in many (but not limited to) networking and telecommunication contexts. In this paper we introduce the anti-$k$-labeling problem of graphs which we seek to minimize the similarity (or distance) of neighboring nodes. For example, in the fundamental frequency assignment problem in wireless networks where each node is assigned a frequency, it is usually desirable to limit or minimize the frequency gap between neighboring nodes so as to limit interference.
Let $k\geq1$ be an integer and $ψ$ is a labeling function (anti-$k$-labeling) from $V(G)$ to $\{1,2,\cdots,k\}$ for a graph $G$. A {\em no-hole anti-$k$-labeling} is an anti-$k$-labeling using all labels between 1 and $k$. We define $w_ψ(e)=|ψ(u)-ψ(v)|$ for an edge $e=uv$ and $w_ψ(G)=\min\{w_ψ(e):e\in E(G)\}$ for an anti-$k$-labeling $ψ$ of the graph $G$. {\em The anti-$k$-labeling number} of a graph $G$, $mc_k(G)$ is $\max\{w_ψ(G): ψ\}$. In this paper, we first show that $mc_k(G)=\lfloor \frac{k-1}{χ-1}\rfloor$, and the problem that determines $mc_k(G)$ of graphs is NP-hard. We mainly obtain the lower bounds on no-hole anti-$n$-labeling number for trees, grids and $n$-cubes.

For a set of graphs $\mathcal{F}$, the extremal number $ex(n;\mathcal{F})$ is the maximum number of edges in a graph of order $n$ not containing any subgraph isomorphic to some graph in $\mathcal{F}$. If $\mathcal{F}$ contains a graph on $n$ vertices, then we often call the problem a spanning Turán problem. A linear forest is a graph whose connected components are all paths and isolated vertices. In this paper, we let $\mathcal{L}_n^k$ be the set of all linear forests of order $n$ with at least $n-k+1$ edges. We prove that when $n\geq 3k$ and $k\geq 2$, \[ ex(n;\mathcal{L}_n^k)=\binom{n-k+1}{2}+ O(k^2). \] Clearly, the result is interesting when $k=o(n)$.

An edge-coloured graph $G$ is called $properly$ $connected$ if every two vertices are connected by a proper path. The $proper$ $connection$ $number$ of a connected graph $G$, denoted by $pc(G)$, is the smallest number of colours that are needed in order to make $G$ properly connected. Susan A. van Aardt et al. gave a sufficient condition for the proper connection number to be at most $k$ in terms of the size of graphs. In this note, %optimizes the boundary of the number of edges %we study the $proper$ $connection$ $number$ is under the conditions of adding the minimum degree and optimizing the number of edges. our main result is the following, by adding a minimum degree condition: Let $G$ be a connected graph of order $n$, $k\geq3$. If $|E(G)|\geq \binom{n-m-(k+1-m)(δ+1)}{2} +(k+1-m)\binom{δ+1}{2}+k+2$, then $pc(G)\leq k$, where $m$ takes the value $t$ if $δ=1$ and $\lfloor \frac{k}{δ-1} \rfloor$ if $δ\geq2$. Furthermore, if $k=2$ and $δ=2$, %(i.e., $|E(G)|\geq \binom{n-5}{2} +7$) $pc(G)\leq 2$, except $G\in \{G_{1}, G_{n}\}$ ($n\geq8$), where $G_{1}=K_{1}\vee 3K_{2}$ and $G_{n}$ is obtained by taking a complete graph $K_{n-5}$ and $K_{1}\vee (2K_{2}$) with an arbitrary vertex of $K_{n-5}$ and a vertex with $d(v)=4$ in $K_{1}\vee (2K_{2}$) being joined. If $k=2$, $δ\geq 3$, we conjecture $pc(G)\leq 2$, where $m$ takes the value $1$ if $δ=3$ and $0$ if $δ\geq4$ in the assumption.

The component connectivity is the generalization of connectivity which is an parameter for the reliability evaluation of interconnection networks. The $g$-component connectivity $cκ_{g}(G)$ of a non-complete connected graph $G$ is the minimum number of vertices whose deletion results in a graph with at least $g$ components. The results in [Component connectivity of the hypercubes, International Journal of Computer Mathematics 89 (2012) 137-145] by Hsu et al. determines the component connectivity of the hypercubes. As an invariant of the hypercube, we determine the $(g+1)$-component connectivity of the folded hypercube $cκ_{g}(FQ_{n})=g(n+1)-\frac{1}{2}g(g+1)+1$ for $1\leq g \leq n+1, n\geq 8$ in this paper.
Component edge connectivity of the folded hypercube
The $g$-component edge connectivity $cλ_g(G)$ of a non-complete graph $G$ is the minimum number of edges whose deletion results in a graph with at least $g$ components. In this paper, we determine the component edge connectivity of the folded hypercube $cλ_{g+1}(FQ_{n})=(n+1)g-(\sum\limits_{i=0}^{s}t_i2^{t_i-1}+\sum\limits_{i=0}^{s} i\cdot 2^{t_i})$ for $g\leq 2^{[\frac{n+1}2]}$ and $n\geq 5$, where $g$ be a positive integer and $g=\sum\limits_{i=0}^{s}2^{t_i}$ be the decomposition of $g$ such that $t_0=[\log_{2}{g}],$ and $t_i=[\log_2({g-\sum\limits_{r=0}^{i-1}2^{t_r}})]$ for $i\geq 1$.

A \emph{book-embedding} of a graph $G$ is an embedding of vertices of $G$ along the spine of a book, and edges of $G$ on the pages so that no two edges on the same page intersect. the minimum number of pages in which a graph can be embedded is called the \emph{page number}. The book-embedding of graphs may be important in several technical applications, e.g., sorting with parallel stacks, fault-tolerant processor arrays design, and layout problems with application to very large scale integration (VLSI). Bernhart and Kainen firstly considered the book-embedding of the planar graph and conjectured that its page number can be made arbitrarily large [JCT, 1979, 320-331]. Heath [FOCS84] found that planar graphs admit a seven-page book embedding. Later, Yannakakis proved that four pages are necessary and sufficient for planar graphs in [STOC86]. Recently, Bekos et al. [STACS14] described an $O(n^{2})$ time algorithm of two-page book embedding for 4-planar graphs. In this paper, we embed 5-planar graphs into a book of three pages by an $O(n^{2})$ time algorithm.
