A characterization of tight ($ k, 0 $)-stable graphs
Let k and l be two non-negative integers with k > l. A graph G is (k,l)-stable if alpha(G - S) >= alpha(G) - l for every subset S of V(G) with |S| = k, where alpha(G) denotes the independence number of G. Dong and Wu established that alpha(G) <= floor((n - k + 1)/2) + l for a (k, l)-stable graph G, where n is the order of G. A (k, l)-stable graph G is tight if alpha(G) = floor((n - k + 1)/2) + l. In this paper, we provide a complete characterization of tight (k, 0)-stable graphs for k >= 4. In particular, we prove that tight (k, 0)-stable graphs are K_{k+1} and K_{k+2} for k >= 5, which not only extends the result of Liu, Song and Wang [J. Graph Theory 110(2) (2025), 193-199] from k >= 24 to k >= 5, but also proves the conjecture of Dong and Luo [Electron. J. Comb. 32(4) (2025), 4-45] once more.
A characterization of 4-connected graphs with no 6-wheel minor
For each integer $n\geq 3$, let $W_n$ denote the wheel graph obtained by connecting a single vertex to all vertices of a cycle of length $n$. In particular, $W_6$ is obtained from the Petersen graph by contracting three edges incident with a common vertex. In this paper, we determine all $4$-connected graphs that do not contain $W_6$ as a minor.
An excluded minor theorem for the 6-wheel
For each integer $n \geq 3$, the wheel graph $W_n$ is defined as the graph obtained by connecting a single vertex to all vertices of a cycle of length $n$. In particular, $W_6$ can be uniquely obtained from the Petersen graph by contracting three edges incident to a common vertex. Gubser provided a characterization of all 3-connected planar $W_6$-minor-free graphs. In this paper, we complete the characterization of $W_6$-minor-free graphs by determining the 3-connected nonplanar cases.
A degree sum condition for the existence of a quasi 5-contractible edge in a quasi 5-connected graph
An edge of a quasi $k$-connected graph is said to be quasi $k$-contractible if the contraction of the edge results in a quasi $k$-connected graph. We show that every 5-connected graph contains a quasi 5-contractible edge. Furthermore, we prove that a quasi 5-connected graph possesses a quasi 5-contractible edge, if the degree sum of any two vertices with distance at most two is at least 9. This result strengthens a theorem proved by Kriesell when $k=4$ (M. Kriesell, A degree sum condition for the existence of a contractible edge in a $k$-connected graph, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 82(2001)81-101).
On the coefficients of interior and exterior polynomials of polymatroids
The Tutte polynomial is an important invariant of graphs and matroids. Chen and Guo \emph{[Adv. in Appl. Math. 166 (2025) 102868.]} proved that for a $(k+1)$-edge connected graph $G$ and for any $i$ with $0\leq i <\frac{3(k+1)}{2}$, $$[y^{g-i}]T_{G}(1,y)=\binom{|V(G)|+i-2}{i}-\sum_{j=0}^{i}\binom{|V(G)|+i-2-j}{i-j}|\mathcal{SC}_{j}(G)|,$$ where $g=|E(G)|-|V(G)|+1$, $\mathcal{SC}_{j}(G)$ is the set of all minimal edge cuts with $j$ edges, $T_{G}(x,y)$ is the Tutte polynomial of the graph $G$, and $[y^{g-i}]T_{G}(1,y)$ denotes the coefficient of $y^{g-i}$ in the polynomial $T_{G}(1,y)$. Recently, Ma, Guan and Jin \emph{[arXiv.2503.06095, 2025.]} generalized this result from graphs to matroids and obtained the dual result on coefficients of $T_M(x,1)$ of matroids $M$ at the same time. In 2013, as a generalization of $T_{G}(x,1)$ and $T_{G}(1,y)$ of graphs $G$ to hypergraphs, Kálmán \emph{[Adv. Math. 244 (2013) 823-873.]} introduced interior and exterior polynomials for connected hypergraphs. Chen and Guo posed a problem that can one generalize these results of graphs to interior and exterior polynomials of hypergraphs? In this paper, we solve it in the affirmative by obtaining results for more general polymatroids, which include the case of hypergraphs and also generalize the results of matroids due to Ma, Guan and Jin. As an application, the sequence consisting of these coefficients on polymatroids is proven to be unimodal, while the unimodality of the whole coefficients of matroids was obtained in 2018 by Adiprasito, Huh and Katz using Hodge theory.
A forbidden pair for quasi 5-contractible edges
An edge of a quasi $k$-connected graph is said to be quasi $k$-contractible if the contraction of the edge results in a quasi $k$-connected graph. If every quasi $k$-connected graph without a quasi $k$-contractible edge has either $H_{1}$ or $H_{2}$ as a subgraph, then an unordered pair of graphs $\{H_{1}, H_{2}\}$ is said to be a forbidden pair for quasi $k$-contractible edges. We prove that $\{K_{4}^{-}, \overline{P_{5}}\}$ is a forbidden pair for quasi 5-contractible edges, where $K_{4}^{-}$ is the graph obtained from $K_{4}$ by removing just one edge and $\overline{P_{5}}$ is the complement of a path on five vertices.
A constructive characterization of uniformly 4-connected graphs
A constructive characterization of the class of uniformly $4$-connected graphs is presented. The characterization is based on the application of graph operations to appropriate vertex and edge sets in uniformly $4$-connected graphs, that is, any uniformly $4$-connected graph can be obtained from $C_5^2$ or $C_6^2$ by a number of $Δ_1^+$ or $Δ_2^+$-operations to quasi $4$-compatible sets.
Hypergraph Turán problem of the generalized triangle with bounded matching number
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a 3-graph on $n$ vertices. The matching number $ν(\mathcal{H})$ is defined as the maximum number of disjoint edges in $\mathcal{H}$. The generalized triangle $F_5$ is a 3-graph on the vertex set $\{a,b,c,d,e\}$ with the edge set $\{abc, abd,cde\}$. In this paper, we showed that an $F_5$-free 3-graph $\mathcal{H}$ with matching number at most $s$ has at most $s\lfloor (n-s)^2/4\rfloor$ edges for $n\geq 30(s+1)$ and $s\geq 3$. For the proof, we establish a 2-colored version of Mantel's theorem, which may be of independent interests.
2-factors in $\frac{3}{2}$-tough maximal planar graphs
The toughness of a graph $G$ is defined as the minimum value of $|S|/c(G-S)$ over all cutsets $S$ of $G$ if $G$ is noncomplete, and is defined to be $\infty$ if $G$ is complete. For a real number $t$, we say that $G$ is $t$-tough if its toughness is at least $t$. Followed from the classic 1956 result of Tutte, every more than $\frac{3}{2}$-tough planar graph on at least three vertices has a 2-factor. In 1999, Owens constructed a sequence of maximal planar graphs with toughness $\frac{3}{2}-\varepsilon$ for any $\varepsilon >0$, but the graphs do not contain any 2-factor. He then posed the question of whether there exists a maximal planar graph with toughness exactly $\frac{3}{2}$ and with no 2-factor. This question was recently answered affirmatively by the third author. This naturally leads to the question: under what conditions does a $\frac{3}{2}$-tough maximal planar graph contain a 2-factor? In this paper, we provide a sufficient condition for the existence of 2-factors in $\frac{3}{2}$-tough maximal planar graphs, stated as a bound on the distance between vertices of degree 3.
Hamiltonian laceability with a set of faulty edges in hypercubes
Faulty networks are useful because link or node faults can occur in a network. This paper examines the Hamiltonian properties of hypercubes under certain conditional faulty edges. Let consider the hypercube \( Q_n \), for \( n \geq 5 \) and set of faulty edges \( F \) such that \( |F| \leq 4n - 17 \). We prove that a Hamiltonian path exists connecting any two vertices in \( Q_n - F \) from distinct partite sets if they verify the next two conditions: (i) in $Q_n - F$ any vertex has a degree at least 2, and (ii) in $Q_n - F$ at most one vertex has a degree exactly equal to 2. These findings provide an understanding of fault-tolerant properties in hypercube networks.
Hamiltonian paths extending a set of matchings in hypercubes
The hypercube \( Q_n \) contains a Hamiltonian path joining \( x \) and \( y \) (where $x$ and $y$ from the opposite partite set) containing \( P \) if and only if the induced subgraph of \( P \) is a linear forest, where none of these paths have \( x \) or \( y \) as internal vertices nor both as endpoints. Dvořák and Gregor answered a problem posed by Caha and Koubek and proved that for every \( n \geq 5 \), there exist vertices \( x \) and \( y \) with a set of \( 2n - 4 \) edges in \( Q_n \) that extend to the Hamiltonian path joining \( x \) and \( y \). This paper examines the Hamiltonian properties of hypercubes with a matching set. Let consider the hypercube \( Q_n \), for \( n \geq 5 \) and a set of matching \( M \) such that \( |M| \leq 3n - 13 \). We prove a Hamiltonian path exists joining two vertices $x$ and $y$ in \( Q_n \) from opposite partite sets containing $M$.
Contractible Non-Edges in 3-Connected Graphs
We call a pair of non-adjacent vertices in G a non-edge. Contraction of a non-edge {u, v} in G is the replacement of u and v with a single vertex z and then making all the vertices that are adjacent to u or v adjacent to z. A non-edge {u, v} is said to be contractible in a k-connected graph G, if the resulting graph after its contraction remains k-connected. Tsz Lung Chan characterized all 3-connected graphs (finite or infinite) that does not contain any contractible non-edges in 2019, and posed the problem of characterizing all 3-connected graphs that contain exactly one contractible non-edge. In this paper, we solve this problem.
Hamiltonian cycles in $ 15 $-tough ($ P_{3}\cup 3P_{1} $)-free graphs
A graph $ G $ is called $ t $-tough if $ \left|S\right|\geq t\cdot w\left(G-S\right)$ for every cutset $ S $ of $G$. Chvátal conjectured that there exists a constant $ t_{0} $ such that every $ t_{0} $-tough graph has a hamiltonian cycle. Gao and Shan have proved that every $7$-tough $(P_{3}\cup 2P_{1})$-free grah is hamiltonian. In this paper, we confirm this conjecture for $ (P_{3}\cup 3P_{1}) $-free graphs.
Triangle-free Graphs with Large Minimum Common Degree
Let $G$ be a graph. For $x\in V(G)$, let $N(x)=\{y\in V(G)\colon xy\in E(G)\}$. The minimum common degree of $G$, denoted by $δ_{2}(G)$, is defined as the minimum of $|N(x)\cap N(y)|$ over all non-edges $xy$ of $G$. In 1982, Häggkvist showed that every triangle-free graph with minimum degree greater than $\lfloor\frac{3n}{8}\rfloor$ is homomorphic to a cycle of length 5. In this paper, we prove that every triangle-free graph with minimum common degree greater than $\lfloor\frac{n}{8}\rfloor$ is homomorphic to a cycle of length 5, which implies Häggkvist's result. The balanced blow-up of the Möbius ladder graph shows that it is best possible.
Extremal triangle-free graphs with chromatic number at least four
Let $G$ be an $n$-vertex triangle-free graph. The celebrated Mantel's theorem showed that $e(G)\leq \lfloor\frac{n^2}{4}\rfloor$. In 1962, Erdős (together with Gallai), and independently Andrásfai, proved that if $G$ is non-bipartite then $e(G)\leq \lfloor\frac{(n-1)^2}{4}\rfloor+1$. In this paper, we extend this result and show that if $G$ has chromatic number at least four and $n\geq 90$, then $e(G)\leq \lfloor\frac{(n-3)^2}{4}\rfloor+5$. The blow-ups of Grötzsch graph shows that this bound is best possible.
On the minimum degree of minimally $ t $-tough, claw-free graphs
A graph $ G $ is minimally $ t $-tough if the toughness of $ G $ is $ t $ and deletion of any edge from $ G $ decreases its toughness. Katona et al. conjectured that the minimum degree of any minimally $ t $-tough graph is $ \lceil 2t\rceil $ and proved that the minimum degree of minimally $ \frac{1}2 $-tough and $ 1 $-tough, claw-free graphs is 1 and 2, respectively. We have show that every minimally $ 3/2 $-tough, claw-free graph has a vertex of degree of $ 3 $. In this paper, we give an upper bound on the minimum degree of minimally $t$-tough, claw-free graphs for $ t\geq 2 $.
On regular 2-path Hamiltonian graphs
Kronk introduced the $l$-path hamiltonianicity of graphs in 1969. A graph is $l$-path Hamiltonian if every path of length not exceeding $l$ is contained in a Hamiltonian cycle. We have shown that if $P=uvz$ is a 2-path of a 2-connected, $k$-regular graph on at most $2k$ vertices and $G - V(P)$ is connected, then there must exist a Hamiltonian cycle in $G$ that contains the 2-path $P$. In this paper, we characterize a class of graphs that illustrate the sharpness of the bound $2k$. Additionally, we show that by excluding the class of graphs, both 2-connected, $k$-regular graphs on at most $2k + 1$ vertices and 3-connected, $k$-regular graphs on at most $3k-6$ vertices satisfy that there is a Hamiltonian cycle containing the 2-path $P$ if $G\setminus V(P)$ is connected.
A characterization of 4-connected graphs with no $K_{3,3}+v$-minor
Among graphs with 13 edges, there are exactly three internally 4-connected graphs which are $Oct^{+}$, cube+e and $ K_{3,3} +v$. A complete characterization of all 4-connected graphs with no $Oct^{+}$-minor is given in [John Maharry, An excluded minor theorem for the octahedron plus an edge, Journal of Graph Theory 57(2) (2008) 124-130]. Let $K_{3,3}+v$ denote the graph obtained by adding a new vertex $v$ to $K_{3,3}$ and joining $v$ to the four vertices of a 4-cycle. In this paper, we determine all 4-connected graphs that do not contain $K_{3,3}+v$ as a minor.
A stability result for $C_{2k+1}$-free graphs
A graph $G$ is called $C_{2k+1}$-free if it does not contain any cycle of length $2k+1$. In 1981, Haggkvist, Faudree and Schelp showed that every $n$-vertex triangle-free graph with more than $\frac{(n-1)^2}{4}+1$ edges is bipartite. In this paper, we extend their result and show that for $1\leq t\leq 2k-2$ and $n\geq 318t^2k$, every $n$-vertex $C_{2k+1}$-free graph with more than $\frac{(n-t-1)^2}{4}+\binom{t+2}{2}$ edges can be made bipartite by either deleting at most $t-1$ vertices or deleting at most $\binom{\lfloor\frac{t+2}{2}\rfloor}{2}+\binom{\lceil\frac{t+2}{2}\rceil}{2}-1$ edges. The construction shows that this is best possible.

Let $G$ be a contraction critically quasi $5$-connected graph on at least $14$ vertices. If there is a vertex $x\in V_{4}(G)$ such that $G[N_{G}(x)]\cong K_{1,3}$ or $G[N_{G}(x)]\cong C_{4}$, then $G$ has a quasi $5$-contractible subgraph $H$ such that $0<\|V(H)\|<4$.
