Oriented paths with two blocks in bipartite oriented graphs
Stein conjectured that for any integer $k\geq 2$, every oriented graph with minimum semidegree greater than $k/2$ contains every orientation of a path with $k$ edges. Recently, Chen, Hou and Zhou proved this conjecture to be true for any oriented path with two blocks, where a block of an oriented path is a maximal directed subpath within it. In this paper, we prove that every bipartite oriented graph with minimum semidegree at least $3k/8+2$ contains every oriented path with two blocks of length $k$ for $k\ge 2$. Moreover, in contrast to the general oriented setting, we highlight that the minimum semidegree threshold in the bipartite setting is closely related to the number of blocks.
Tight lower bound for the spectral radius of connected graphs with given matching number
Let $\mathscr{G}_{n,k}$ denote the family of all connected graphs of order $n$ with matching number $k$. Liu, Lou, and Trevisan~(Linear Algebra Appl., 2026) posed the following problem: Determine the spectrally minimal graphs in $\mathscr{G}_{n,k}$. In this paper we prove that for every graph $G \in \mathscr{G}_{n,k}$, $
ρ(G) \ge \sqrt{\frac{n + 2k - 3}{k}}, $
and we completely characterize the extremal graphs when $k \mid (n-3)$. As applications, we establish $ρ(G) + k \ge 3\sqrt[3]{n/4}$ for $k \ge 2$, settling the asymptotic order of $ρ+ k$ as $Θ(n^{1/3})$ -- strictly smaller than the $Θ(\sqrt{n})$ order suggested by the disproved Aouchiche--Hansen conjecture.
Exact values of rainbow Turán numbers for fan graphs and even wheel graphs
An edge-colored graph is called rainbow if all its edges have distinct colors. For a fixed graph $H$, the rainbow Turán number $\exstar(n, H)$ is the maximum number of edges in a properly edge-colored graph with $n$ vertices that does not contain a rainbow subgraph isomorphic to $H$. A $t$-fan $\Ft$ ($t \geq 2$) is a graph formed by $t$ triangles sharing a common vertex. A wheel graph $\Wn$ is constructed by connecting a new vertex $x$ to all vertices of a cycle $\Cn$ with $n$ vertices. Keevash, Mubayi, Sudakov, Verstraëte~({\small Combin. Probab. Comput., 2007}) showed that \[ \exstar(n, F_t) \geq \floor{\frac{n^2}{4}} + (t-1)\floor{\frac{n}{2}} \] by constructing extremal graphs for $n\not\equiv 2\pmod 4$.
In this paper, we propose such a method: for a graph $H$, the upper bound of $\exstar(n, H)$ can be analyzed using the rainbow Turán number of $H'$, where $H'$ is obtained by deleting one vertex from $H$. By applying this method, we determine the exact values of the rainbow Turán numbers for two families of graphs when the number of vertices $n$ is sufficiently large. Specifically, we obtain: (1) when $n > 230t$, \[ \exstar(n, \Ft) = \floor{\frac{n^2}{4}} + (t-1)\floor{\frac{n}{2}} - \Dn, \] where $\Dn = 1$ if $n \equiv 2 \pmod{4}$, and $\Dn = 0$ otherwise; (2) for graphs $H$ satisfying $W_{2t} \subset H \subset \Kts$ ($t \leq s$), when $n$ is sufficiently large, \[ \exstar(n, H) = \begin{cases} \floor{\frac{n^2}{4}} + \floor{\frac{(t-1)n}{2}} - \Dn & \text{if } t \text{ is odd}, \\ \floor{\frac{n^2}{4}} + \floor{\frac{(t-1)n}{2}} & \text{if } t \text{ is even}. \end{cases} \]
A note on the $t$-partite link problem of Füredi
Motivated by the Erdős--Sós bipartite link conjecture, Füredi (Oberwolfach, 2004) asked for the asymptotic maximum edge density $π_{\mathrm{link}}(t)$ of $3$-graphs in which the link graph of every vertex is $t$-partite. Goldwasser's recursive blow-up construction based on projective planes gives the lower bound $π_{\mathrm{link}}(t)\ge 1-t^{-1}-(2+o_t(1))t^{-2}$ whenever $t-1$ is a prime power. In this note, we prove the upper bound $π_{\mathrm{link}}(t)\le 1-t^{-1}-t^{-2}/12$ for every $t \ge 2$. Together with Goldwasser's construction, this determines, up to a constant factor, the correct order of the gap between $π_{\mathrm{link}}(t)$ and the trivial averaging upper bound $1-t^{-1}$ for all prime-power values of $t-1$.
In fact, our argument applies in the more general setting of $3$-graphs with no generalized daisies, equivalently, $3$-graphs in which the link graph of every vertex is $K_{t+1}$-free. We also establish an analogous upper bound for the positive $(r-1)$-codegree Turán density of generalized daisies.
Every connected subcubic graph except the Petersen graph is packing $(1,1,2,2)$-colorable
For a non-decreasing sequence $S = (s_1, s_2, \ldots, s_k)$ of positive integers, a packing $S$-coloring of a graph $G$ is a partition of $V(G)$ into $V_1, V_2, \ldots, V_k$ such that each $V_i$ has pairwise distance at least $s_i+1$. The packing chromatic number (PCN) of a graph $G$ is the minimum $k$ such that $G$ has a packing $(1,2, \ldots, k)$-coloring. The $1$-subdivision of $G$ is obtained by replacing each edge of $G$ with a path of two edges. In 2016, Gastineau and Togni asked an open question whether the $1$-subdivision of every subcubic graph has PCN at most $5$, and later Bre\v sar, Klav\v zar, Rall, and Wash conjectured it is true. Balogh, Kostochka, and Liu proved the first upper bound of $8$, and it was later improved to $6$ by Liu, Zhang, and Zhang.
In this paper, we prove that every connected subcubic graph except the Petersen graph is packing $(1,1,2,2)$-colorable. Our result implies a solution to the conjecture of Bre\v sar, Klav\v zar, Rall, and Wash, and answers the question of Gastineau and Togni in the affirmative. Furthermore, our result answers an open question of Kostochka and Liu and solves a conjecture of Liu, Zhang, and Zhang.
An improvement bound on a problem of Picasarri-Arrieta and Rambaud
Let $k$ and $\ell$ be positive integers. A cycle with two blocks $C(k,\ell)$ is a digraph consisting of two internally vertex disjoint directed paths of lengths $k$ and $\ell$ with the same initial vertex and terminal vertex. Picasarri-Arrieta and Rambaud (European J. Combin., 2024) proved that for any $k\geq 2$, every digraph of minimum out-degree at least two and girth at least $8k-6$ contains a subdivision of $C(k,k)$. They also construct a family of digraphs showing that the girth cannot be reduced to $k-1$, and posed the problem of determining the minimum girth such that every digraph of minimum out-degree at least two contains a subdivision of $C(k,k)$. In this paper, we improve the lower bound on the girth from $8k-6$ to $4k+2$, and construct a family of digraphs in which every member has minimum out-degree two and girth $k$ but contains no subdivision of $C(k,k)$. Thus our results show that the girth in question lies between $k+1$ and $4k+2$.
Monochromatic triangle-tilings in dense graphs without large independent sets
Given two graphs $H$ and $G$, an $H$-tiling is a family of vertex-disjoint copies of $H$ in $G$. A perfect $H$-tiling covers all vertices of $G$. The Corradi-Hajnal theorem (1963) states that an $n$-vertex graph $G$ with minimum degree $δ(G)\ge 2n/3$ contains a perfect triangle-tiling. For an $n$-vertex graph $G$ with independence number $α(G)=o(n)$, Balogh, Molla and Sharifzadeh (Random Structures & Algorithms, 2016) showed that a minimum degree of $(\frac12+o(1))n$ forces a perfect triangle-tiling. In a 2-edge-colored graph, Balogh, Freschi, Treglown (European J. Combin. 2026) determined the (asymptotic) minimum degree threshold for forcing a strong or weak monochromatic triangle-tiling covering a prescribed proportion of the vertices: a strong tiling requires all triangles to be in the same color class, while a weak tiling only requires each triangle to be monochromatic. In this paper, we combine the conditions from these two lines of work and prove that every $2$-edge-colored $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $α(G)=o(n)$ contains a weak monochromatic triangle-tiling $Γ$ of size \[ |Γ|\ge \begin{cases} 2δ(G)-n-o(n), & \text{if }\frac12 n\le δ(G)\le \frac35 n,\\[2mm] δ(G)/3-o(n), & \text{if }δ(G)>\frac35 n. \end{cases} \] Both bounds are asymptotically optimal. We use the degree form regularity lemma in our proof.
Unavoidable induced subgraphs forced by graphs with many vertices of prescribed properties
Given a function $p : V(G)\to \mathbb N$ and an integer $k\ge 0$, define $p_k(G)$ as the number of vertices with $p(v)\ge k$. We say that $p_k(G)$ is bounded for all $\HH$-free graphs if there exists a constant $c=c(\HH)$ such that $p_k(G)<c$ for all such graphs $G$. Here, a graph $G$ is said to be $\HH$-free if it contains no member of $\HH$ as an induced subgraph. When $p$ represents the degree of a vertex, Ramsey's theorem implies that $p_0(G)$ is bounded for every $\{K_n, E_n\}$-free graphs, where $K_n$ and $E_n$ denote the complete graph and the edgeless graph on $n$ vertices, respectively. The connected version of Ramsey's theorem says that $p_0(G)$ is bounded for all $\{K_n, P_n, K_{1,n}\}$-free connected graphs, where $P_n$ and $K_{1,n}$ are the $n$-vertex path and the star with $n$ leaves. In this paper, we extend the Ramsey's theorem to $p_2(G)$ where $p$ denotes the degree, the local independent number, the local component number, and sharp degree, that is, we characterize the forbidden family of graphs $\HH$ such that $p_2(G)$ is bounded for all (connected) $\HH$-free graphs. Moreover, we also characterize the forbidden family of graphs $\HH$ for which there is a constant $c=c(\HH)$ such that $p_c(G)$ is bounded for all $\HH$-free graphs.

Stein (2020) conjectured that for any positive integer $k$, every oriented graph of minimum semi-degree greater than $k/2$ contains every oriented path of length $k$. This conjecture is true for directed paths by a result from Jackson (JGT, 1981). In this paper, we establish the validity of Stein's conjecture specifically for any oriented path with two blocks, where, a block of an oriented path $P$ refers to a maximal directed subpath within $P$.
Divisible subdivisions of graphs in subdivisions of complete graphs
Let $\mathbb{Z}_q$ denote the cyclic group of order $q$. A $\mathbb{Z}_q$-edge-weighted $K_f$ is the complete graph $K_f$ equipped with a weight function $ω: E(K_f) \to \mathbb{Z}_q$. A subdivision of a graph $H$ in a $\mathbb{Z}_q$-edge-weighted $K_f$ is called a $q$-divisible subdivision of $H$ if every subdivision path has weight congruent to zero modulo $q$. Let $q\ge 2$ be an integer and let $H$ be a graph with $n$ vertices and $m$ edges. Define $s_q(H)$ to be the smallest number $f$ such that every $\mathbb{Z}_q$-edge-weighted $K_{f}$ contains a $q$-divisible subdivision of $H$. Das, Draganić, and Steiner raised the following question (Problem 4.1 in [Tight bounds for divisible subdivisions, J. Combin. Theory, Ser. B 165 (2024) 1-19]): Given $q\in\mathbb{N}$ and a subcubic graph $H$ with $n$ vertices and $m$ edges, is it true $s_q(H)= m(q - 1) + n$? They also established the upper bound $s_q(H)\le 7mq+8n+14q$ for such a graph $H$. In this paper, we improve this bound by showing that $s_q(H)\le (2q - 1)m + 2n - 1 + 4q$, and establishing a sharper bound $s_p(H)\le \frac{3p - 1}{2}m - \frac{p - 1}{2}n + \frac{p + 1}{2}$ for prime $p$ and connected $H$. We resolve this problem in the case $q=2$ by proving that $s_2(H) = m + n$ for any 5-degenerate graph $H$, and in the case $q\ge 2$ and $T$ being a tree, by showing that $s_q(T) = nq - q + 1$. Let $s_q(H,t)$ be the minimum number $f$ such that every $\mathbb{Z}_q$-edge-weighted $K_f$ contains a $q$-divisible $t$-subdivision of $H$, where a $t$-subdivision of $H$ is a subdivision of $H$ such that each edge of $H$ is subdivided exactly $t$ times. We also prove that $s_2(H,1)= m + n$, where $H$ is a tree or a cycle on $n$ vertices with $m$ edges.
The generalized Turán number for K_3 in graphs without suspensions of a path on five vertices
Given graphs $H$ and $F$, the generalized Turán number $\ex(n, H, F)$ is defined as
the maximum number of copies of $H$ in an $n$-vertex graph that contains no copy of $F$.
The suspension $\widehat{F}$ of a graph $F$ is
obtained by adding a new vertex that is adjacent to every vertex of $F$.
Mubayi and Mukherjee (2023, DM) conjectured that $\ex(n, K_3, \widehat{P_k})=\left\lfloor \frac{k-2}{2}\right\rfloor \cdot \frac{n^2}{8}+o(n^2)$, where $P_k$ is a
path on $k\ge 4$ vertices. Using the triangle removal
lemma, they verified this conjecture for $k=4,5,6$.
Later, Mukherjee (2024, DM) established the exact value $\ex(n, K_3, \widehat{P_4})=\left\lfloor n^2/8\right\rfloor$.
In this paper, using the stability method, we determine the exact value of $\ex(n, K_3, \widehat{P_5})$ by showing that for sufficiently large $n$, $\ex(n,K_3, \widehat{P_5})=\left\lfloor n^2/8\right\rfloor.$
Induced subgraphs of graphs with large deficiency
The deficiency of a graph $G$, denoted by $\kd(G)$, is the number of vertices not saturated by a maximum matching. A bone $B_i$ is the tree obtained by attaching two pendent edges to each of the end vertices of a path $P_{i}$. The local independence number of $G$, denoted by $α_l(G)$, is defines as the maximum integer $t$ such that $G$ contains an induced star $K_{1,t}$. Motivated by the seminal works of Scott and Seymour~(2016), Chudnovsky et al. (2017, 2020) on finding special types of holes in graphs with large chromatic number and bounded clique number, we establish an analog result by finding special types of bones in graphs with large deficiency and bounded local independence number. Fujita et al. (2006) proved that $\kd(G)\le n-2$ if $G$ is a connected graph with $α_l(G)<n$ and containing no bones. We further establish exact extremal deficiency bounds for connected graphs with bounded local independence number that exclude specific bone configurations. An algorithm that constructs large matchings and establishes an upper bound on the deficiency is also provided.
Dirac-type condition for Hamilton-generated graphs
The cycle space $\mathcal{C}(G)$ of a graph $G$ is defined as the linear space spanned by all cycles in $G$. For an integer $k\ge 3$, let $\mathcal{C}_k (G)$ denote the subspace of $\mathcal{C}(G)$ generated by the cycles of length exactly $k$. A graph $G$ on $n$ vertices is called Hamilton-generated if $\mathcal{C}_n (G) = \mathcal{C}(G)$, meaning every cycle in $G$ is a symmetric difference of some Hamilton cycles of $G$. %A necessary condition for this property is that $n$ must be odd. Heinig (European J. Combin., 2014) showed that for any $σ>0$ and sufficiently large odd $n$, every $n$-vertex graph with minimum degree $(1+ σ)n/2$ is Hamilton-generated. He further posed the question that whether the minimum degree requirement could be lowered to the Dirac threshold $n/2$. Recent progress by Christoph, Nenadov, and Petrova~(arXiv:2402.01447) reduced the minimum degree condition to $n/2 + C$ for some large constant $C$. In this paper, we resolve Heinig's problem completely by proving that for sufficiently large odd $n$, every Hamilton-connected graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $(n-1)/2$ is Hamilton-generated. Moreover, this result is tight for the minimum degree and the Hamilton-connected condition. The proof relies on the parity-switcher technique introduced by Christoph, et al in their recent work, as well as a classification lemma that strengthens a previous result by Krivelevich, Lee, and Sudakov~(Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., 2014).
The maximal sum of sizes of cross intersecting families for multisets
Let $k$, $t$ and $m$ be positive integers. A $k$-multiset of $[m]$ is a collection of $k$ elements of $[m]$ with repetition and without ordering. We use $\left(\binom {[m]}{k}\right)$ to denote all the $k$-multisets of $[m]$. Two multiset families $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{G}$ in $\left(\binom {[m]}{k}\right)$ are called cross $t$-intersecting if $|F\cap G|\geq t$ for any $F\in \mathcal{F}$ and $G\in \mathcal{G}$. Moreover, if $\mathcal{F}=\mathcal{G}$, we call $\mathcal{F}$ a $t$-intersecting family in $\left(\binom {[m]}{k}\right)$. Meagher and Purdy~(2011) presented a multiset variant of Erdős-Ko-Rado Theorem for $t$-intersecting family in $\left(\binom {[m]}{k}\right)$ when $t=1$, and Füredi, Gerbner and Vizer~(2016) extended this result to general $t\ge 2$ with $m\geq 2k-t$, verified a conjecture proposed by Meagher and Purdy~(2011). In this paper, we determine the maximum sum of cross $t$-intersecting families $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{G}$ in $\left(\binom {[m]}{k}\right)$ and characterize the extremal families achieving the upper bound. For $t=1$ and $m\geq k+1$, the method involves constructing a bijection between multiset family and set family while preserving the intersecting relation.
For $t\ge 2$ and $m\ge 2k-t$, we employ a shifting operation, specifically the down-compression, which was initiated by Füredi, Gerbner and Vizer~(2016). These results extend the sum-type intersecting theorem for set families originally given by Hilton and Milner (1967).
Faber-Krahn type inequality for supertrees
The Faber-Krahn inequality states that the first Dirichlet eigenvalue among all bounded domains is no less than a Euclidean ball with the same volume in $\mathbb{R}^n$ \cite{Chavel FB}. Bıyıkoğlu and Leydold (J. Comb. Theory, Ser. B., 2007) demonstrated that the Faber-Krahn inequality also holds for the class of trees with boundary with the same degree sequence and characterized the unique extremal tree. Bıyıkoğlu and Leydold (2007) also posed a question as follows: Give a characterization of all graphs in a given class $\mathcal{C}$ with the Faber-Krahn property. In this paper, we address this question specifically for $k$-uniform supertrees with boundary. We introduce a spiral-like ordering (SLO-ordering) of vertices for supertrees, an extension of the SLO-ordering for trees initially proposed by Pruss [ Duke Math. J., 1998], and prove that the SLO-supertree has the Faber-Krahn property among all supertrees with a given degree sequence. Furthermore, among degree sequences that have a minimum degree $d$ for interior vertices, the SLO-supertree with degree sequence $(d,\ldots,d, d', 1, \dots, 1)$ possesses the Faber-Krahn property.
A Ramsey-type theorem on deficiency
Ramsey's Theorem states that a graph $G$ has bounded order if and only if $G$ contains no complete graph $K_n$ or empty graph $E_n$ as its induced subgraph. The Gyárfás-Sumner conjecture says that a graph $G$ has bounded chromatic number if and only if it contains no induced subgraph isomorphic to $K_n$ or a tree $T$. The deficiency of a graph is the number of vertices that cannot be covered by a maximum matching. In this paper, we prove a Ramsey type theorem for deficiency, i.e., we characterize all the forbidden induced subgraphs for graphs $G$ with bounded deficiency. As an application, we answer a question proposed by Fujita, Kawarabayashi, Lucchesi, Ota, Plummer and Saito (JCTB, 2006).
Long antipaths and anticycles in oriented graphs
Let $δ^{0}(D)$ be the minimum semi-degree of an oriented graph $D$. Jackson (1981) proved that every oriented graph $D$ with $δ^{0}(D)\geq k$ contains a directed path of length $2k$ when $|V(D)|>2k+2$, and a directed Hamilton cycle when $|V(D)|\le 2k+2$. Stein~(2020) further conjectured that every oriented graph $D$ with $δ^{0}(D)>k/2$ contains any orientated path of length $k$. Recently, Klimousová and Stein (DM, 2023) introduced the minimum pseudo-semi-degree $\tildeδ^0(D)$ (a slight weaker than the minimum semi-degree condition as $\tildeδ^0(D)\ge δ^0(D))$ and showed that every oriented graph $D$ with $\tildeδ^{0}(D)\ge (3k-2)/4$ contains each antipath of length $k$ for $k\geq 3$. In this paper, we improve the result of Klimousová and Stein by showing that for all $k\geq 2$, every oriented graph with $\tildeδ^0(D)\ge(2k+1)/3$ contains either an antipath of length at least $k+1$ or an anticycle of length at least $k+1$. Furthermore, we answer a problem raised by Klimousová and Stein in the negative.
A new connectivity bound for a tournament to be highly linked
A digraph $D$ is $k$-linked if for any pair of two disjoint sets $\{x_{1},x_{2},\ldots,x_{k}\}$ and $\{y_{1},y_{2},\ldots,y_{k}\}$ of vertices in $D$, there exist vertex disjoint dipaths $P_{1},P_{2},\ldots,P_{k}$ such that $P_{i}$ is a dipath from $x_{i}$ to $y_{i}$ for each $i\in[k]$. Pokrovskiy (JCTB, 2015) confirmed a conjecture of Kühn et al. (Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., 2014) by verifying that every $452k$-connected tournament is $k$-linked. Meng et al. (Eur. J. Comb., 2021) improved this upper bound by showing that any $(40k-31)$-connected tournament is $k$-linked. In this paper, we show a better upper bound by proving that every $\lceil 12.5k-6\rceil$-connected tournament with minimum out-degree at least $21k-14$ is $k$-linked. Furthermore, we improve a key lemma that was first introduced by Pokrovskiy (JCTB, 2015) and later enhanced by Meng et al. (Eur. J. Comb., 2021).
Counting triangles in regular graphs
In this paper, we investigate the minimum number of triangles, denoted by $t(n,k)$, in $n$-vertex $k$-regular graphs, where $n$ is an odd integer and $k$ is an even integer. The well-known Andrásfai-Erdős-Sós Theorem has established that $t(n,k)>0$ if $k>\frac{2n}{5}$. In a striking work, Lo has provided the exact value of $t(n,k)$ for sufficiently large $n$, given that $\frac{2n}{5}+\frac{12\sqrt{n}}{5}<k<\frac{n}{2}$. Here, we bridge the gap between the aforementioned results by determining the precise value of $t(n,k)$ in the entire range $\frac{2n}{5}<k<\frac{n}{2}$. This confirms a conjecture of Cambie, de Joannis de Verclos, and Kang for sufficiently large $n$.
Ramsey numbers of color critical graphs versus large generalized fans
Given two graphs $G$ and $H$, the {Ramsey number} $R(G,H)$ is the smallest positive integer $N$ such that every 2-coloring of the edges of $K_{N}$ contains either a red $G$ or a blue $H$. Let $K_{N-1}\sqcup K_{1,k}$ be the graph obtained from $K_{N-1}$ by adding a new vertex $v$ connecting $k$ vertices of $K_{N-1}$. Hook and Isaak (2011) defined the {\em star-critical Ramsey number} $r_{*}(G,H)$ as the smallest integer $k$ such that every 2-coloring of the edges of $K_{N-1}\sqcup K_{1,k}$ contains either a red $G$ or a blue $H$, where $N=R(G, H)$. For sufficiently large $n$, Li and Rousseau~(1996) proved that $R(K_{k+1},K_{1}+nK_{t})=knt +1$, Hao, Lin~(2018) showed that $r_{*}(K_{k+1},K_{1}+nK_{t})=(k-1)tn+t$;
Li and Liu~(2016) proved that $R(C_{2k+1}, K_{1}+nK_{t})=2nt+1$, and Li, Li, and Wang~(2020) showed that $r_{*}(C_{2m+1},K_{1}+nK_{t})=nt+t$. A graph $G$ with $χ(G)=k+1$ is called edge-critical if $G$ contains an edge $e$ such that $χ(G-e)=k$. In this paper, we extend the above results by showing that for an edge-critical graph $G$ with $χ(G)=k+1$, when $k\geq 2$, $t\geq 2$ and $n$ is sufficiently large, $R(G, K_{1}+nK_{t})=knt+1$ and $r_{*}(G,K_{1}+nK_{t})=(k-1)nt+t$.
