Binary X-rays of doubly stochastic matrices
The X-ray of a permutation is a sequence of sums along each diagonal of the associated permutation matrix. They satisfy certain necessary constraints on distribution of the values, which are conjectured to be sufficient when the sequence is binary. By re-expressing the constraints in a form that allows for real-valued relaxations, we prove that these binary sequences are always X-rays of doubly stochastic matrices.
Subdivisions of root polytopes and generalized tropical oriented matroids (Extended abstract)
We study a generalization of tropical oriented matroids by Ardila and Develin, and show that they are in bijection with subdivisions of root polytopes, which are sub-polytopes of a product of two simplices.
Linkage Axioms for Generic Tropical Oriented Matroids
We present a comprehensive overview of Ardila and Develin's (generic) tropical oriented matroids, as well as many related objects and their axiomatics. Moreover, we use a unifying framework that elucidates the connections between these objects, including several new cryptomorphisms and properties.
Fine Mixed Subdivisions of a Dilated Triangle
An upward equilateral triangle of side $n$ can be partitioned into $n$ unit upward equilateral triangles and $\frac{n(n-1)}{2}$ unit rhombi with $60^{\circ}$ and $120^{\circ}$ angles. In this paper, we focus on understanding such partitions with a fixed arrangement of unit triangles. We formulate a criterion for such a partition being unique, identify a set of operations that connects all such partitions, and determine which parts are common to all such partitions. Additionally, we discuss an operation that connects all possible partitions with different arrangements of triangles.
Irreducibility of Generalized Permutohedra, Supermodular Functions, and Balanced Multisets
We study generalized permutohedra and supermodular functions. Specifically we analyze decomposability and irreducibility for these objects and establish some asymptotic behavior. We also study a related problem on irreducibility for multisets.

A set of points $S$ in $d$-dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$ is called a 2-distance set if the set of pairwise distances between the points has cardinality two. The 2-distance set is called spherical if its points lie on the unit sphere in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$. We characterize the spherical 2-distance sets using the spectrum of the adjacency matrix of an associated graph and the spectrum of the projection of the adjacency matrix onto the orthogonal complement of the all-ones vector. We also determine the lowest dimensional space in which a given spherical 2-distance set could be represented using the graph spectrum.

We study the problem of determining the maximum size of a spherical two-distance set with two fixed angles (one acute and one obtuse) in high dimensions. Let $N_{α,β}(d)$ denote the maximum number of unit vectors in $\mathbb R^d$ where all pairwise inner products lie in $\{α,β\}$. For fixed $-1\leqβ<0\leqα<1$, we propose a conjecture for the limit of $N_{α,β}(d)/d$ as $d \to \infty$ in terms of eigenvalue multiplicities of signed graphs. We determine this limit when $α+2β<0$ or $(1-α)/(α-β) \in \{1, \sqrt{2}, \sqrt{3}\}$.
Our work builds on our recent resolution of the problem in the case of $α= -β$ (corresponding to equiangular lines). It is the first determination of $\lim_{d \to \infty} N_{α,β}(d)/d$ for any nontrivial fixed values of $α$ and $β$ outside of the equiangular lines setting.
Equiangular lines with a fixed angle

Solving a longstanding problem on equiangular lines, we determine, for each given fixed angle and in all sufficiently large dimensions, the maximum number of lines pairwise separated by the given angle.
Fix $0 < α< 1$. Let $N_α(d)$ denote the maximum number of lines through the origin in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with pairwise common angle $\arccos α$. Let $k$ denote the minimum number (if it exists) of vertices in a graph whose adjacency matrix has spectral radius exactly $(1-α)/(2α)$. If $k < \infty$, then $N_α(d) = \lfloor k(d-1)/(k-1) \rfloor$ for all sufficiently large $d$, and otherwise $N_α(d) = d + o(d)$. In particular, $N_{1/(2k-1)}(d) = \lfloor k(d-1)/(k-1) \rfloor$ for every integer $k\ge 2$ and all sufficiently large $d$.
A key ingredient is a new result in spectral graph theory: the adjacency matrix of a connected bounded degree graph has sublinear second eigenvalue multiplicity.

We construct immersions of trivalent abstract tropical curves in the Euclidean plane and embeddings of all abstract tropical curves in higher dimensional Euclidean space. Since not all curves have an embedding in the plane, we define the tropical crossing number of an abstract tropical curve to be the minimum number of self-intersections, counted with multiplicity, over all its immersions in the plane. We show that the tropical crossing number is at most quadratic in the number of edges and this bound is sharp. For curves of genus up to two, we systematically compute the crossing number. Finally, we use our immersed tropical curves to construct totally faithful nodal algebraic curves via lifting results of Mikhalkin and Shustin.
