Fibonacci numbers and positive braids
The paper contains enumerative combinatorics for positive braids, square free braids, and simple braids, emphasizing connections with classical Fibonacci sequence. The simple subgraph of the Cayley graph of the braid group is analyzed in the final part.

Asymptotics of Lagged Fibonacci Sequences
Consider "lagged" Fibonacci sequences $a(n) = a(n-1)+a(\lfloor n/k\rfloor)$ for $k > 1$. We show that $\lim_{n\to\infty} a(kn)/a(n)\cdot\ln n/n = k\ln k$ and we demonstrate the slow numerical convergence to this limit and how to deal with this slow convergence. We also discuss the connection between two classical results of N.G. de Bruijn and K. Mahler on the asymptotics of $a(n)$.

Congruences involving binomial coefficients and Lucas sequences
In this paper we obtain some congruences involving central binomial coefficients and Lucas sequences. For example, we show that if p>5 is a prime then $\sum_{k=0}^{p-1}F_k*binom(2k,k)/12^k$ is congruent to 0,1,-1 modulo p according as p=1,4 (mod 5), p=13,17 (mod 30), and p=7,23 (mod 30) respectively, where {F_n} is the Fibonacci sequence. We also raise several conjectures.

Fibonacci numbers modulo cubes of primes
Published in Taiwanese J. Math. 17(2013), 1523-1543 • View PublicationBIB
Let $p$ be an odd prime. It is well known that $F_{p-(\frac p5)}\equiv 0\pmod{p}$, where $\{F_n\}_{n\ge0}$ is the Fibonacci sequence and $(-)$ is the Jacobi symbol. In this paper we show that if $p\not=5$ then we may determine $F_{p-(\frac p5)}$ mod $p^3$ in the following way: $$\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\binom{2k}k}{(-16)^k}\equiv\left(\frac{p}5\right)\left(1+\frac{F_{p-(\frac {p}5)}}2\right)\pmod{p^3}.$$ We also use Lucas quotients to determine $\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\binom{2k}k/m^k$ modulo $p^2$ for any integer $m\not\equiv0\pmod{p}$; in particular, we obtain $$\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\binom{2k}k}{16^k}\equiv\left(\frac3{p}\right)\pmod{p^2}.$$ In addition, we pose three conjectures for further research.
Splitting fields and periods of Fibonacci sequences modulo primes
Published • View PublicationBIB
What is the period of the Fibonacci sequence modulo a prime? The purpose of our brief expository paper is to illustrate an accessible, motivated treatment of this classical topic using only ideas from linear and abstract algebra (rather than the case-by-case analysis found in many papers on the subject, or techniques from graduate number theory). Our methods extend to general recurrences with prime moduli and provide some new insights. And our treatment highlights a nice application of the use of splitting fields that might be suitable to present in undergraduate course in abstract algebra or Galois theory.

A Fibonacci sequence for linear structures with two types of components
We investigate binary voting systems with two types of voters and a hierarchy among the members in each type, so that members in one class have more influence or importance than members in the other class. The purpose of this paper is to count, up to isomorphism, the number of these voting systems for an arbitrary number of voters. We obtain a closed formula for the number of these systems, this formula follows a Fibonacci sequence with a smooth polynomial variation on the number of voters.

First Observations on Prefab Posets Whitney Numbers
Published in Advances in Applied Clifford Algebras Volume 18, Number 1 / February, 2008, 57-73 • View PublicationBIB
We introduce a natural partial order in structurally natural finite subsets of the cobweb prefabs sets recently constructed by the present author. Whitney numbers of the second kind of the corresponding subposet which constitute Stirling like numbers triangular array are then calculated and the explicit formula for them is provided. Next, in the second construction we endow the set sums of prefabiants with such an another partial order that their Bell like numbers include Fibonacci triad sequences introduced recently by the present author in order to extend famous relation between binomial Newton coefficients and Fibonacci numbers onto the infinity of their relatives among whom there are also the Fibonacci triad sequences and binomial like coefficients (incidence coefficients included). The first partial order is F sequence independent while the second partial order is F sequence dependent where F is the so called admissible sequence determining cobweb poset by construction. An F determined cobweb posets Hasse diagram becomes Fibonacci tree sheathed with specific cobweb if the sequence F is chosen to be just the Fibonacci sequence. From the stand-point of linear algebra of formal series these are generating functions which stay for the so called extended coherent states of quantum physics. This information is delivered in the last section.

Cobweb posets - Recent Results
Published in Adv. Stud. Contemp. Math. volume 16 (2), 2008 (April) pp. 197-218 • Search Publication
Cobweb posets uniquely represented by directed acyclic graphs are such a generalization of the Fibonacci tree that allows joint combinatorial interpretation for all of them under admissibility condition. This interpretation was derived in the source papers ([6,7] and references therein to the first author).[7,6,8] include natural enquires to be reported on here. The purpose of this presentation is to report on the progress in solving computational problems which are quite easily formulated for the new class of directed acyclic graphs interpreted as Hasse diagrams. The problems posed there and not yet all solved completely are of crucial importance for the vast class of new partially ordered sets with joint combinatorial interpretation. These so called cobweb posets - are relatives of Fibonacci tree and are labeled by specific number sequences - natural numbers sequence and Fibonacci sequence included. The cobweb posets might be identified with a chain of di-bicliques i.e. by definition - a chain of complete bipartite one direction digraphs [6]. Any chain of relations is therefore obtainable from the cobweb poset chain of complete relations via deleting arcs in di-bicliques of the complete relations chain. In particular we response to one of those problems [1].
Connection between ordinary multinomials, generalized Fibonacci numbers, partial Bell partition polynomials and convolution powers of discrete uniform distribution
Using an explicit computable expression of ordinary multinomials, we establish three remarkable connections, with the q-generalized Fibonacci sequence, the exponential partial Bell partition polynomials and the density of convolution powers of the discrete uniform distribution. Identities and various combinatorial relations are derived.

Covers of the integers with odd moduli and their applications to the forms $x^m-2^n$ and $x^2-F_{3n}/2$
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we construct a cover {a_s(mod n_s)}_{s=1}^k of Z with odd moduli such that there are distinct primes p_1,...,p_k dividing 2^{n_1}-1,...,2^{n_k}-1 respectively. Using this cover we show that for any positive integer m divisible by none of 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 there exists an infinite arithmetic progression of positive odd integers the m-th powers of whose terms are never of the form $2^n\pm p^a$ with p a prime and a,n in {0,1,2,...}. We also construct another cover of Z with odd moduli and use it to prove that $x^2-F_{3n}/2$ has at least two distinct prime factors whenever n is a nonnegative integer and x=a (mod M), where {F_i}_{i\ge 0} is the Fibonacci sequence, and a and M are suitable positive integers having 80 decimal digits.

Self-Matching Properties of Beatty Sequences
We study the selfmatching properties of Beatty sequences, in particular of the graph of the function $\lfloor jβ\rfloor $ against $j$ for every quadratic unit $β\in(0,1)$. We show that translation in the argument by an element $G_i$ of generalized Fibonacci sequence causes almost always the translation of the value of function by $G_{i-1}$. More precisely, for fixed $i\in\N$, we have $\bigl\lfloor β(j+G_i)\bigr\rfloor = \lfloor βj\rfloor +G_{i-1}$, where $j\notin U_i$. We determine the set $U_i$ of mismatches and show that it has a low frequency, namely $β^i$.

Identities for Tribonacci-related sequences
We establish some identities relating two sequences that are, as explained, related to the Tribonacci sequence. One of these sequences bears the same resemblance to the Tribonacci sequence as the Lucas sequence does to the Fibonacci sequence. Defining a matrix that we call Tribomatrix, which extends the Fibonacci matrix, we see that the other sequence is related to the sum of the determinants of the 2nd order principal minors of this matrix.

Netted Binomial Matrices
In this paper we prove that a matrix property of nettedness (all 2x2 cells satisfy a recurrence) is preserved for powers of such a matrix, where the coefficients are all instances of the same sequence. Also, we find an n-dimensional analog of the Q-matrix for the general Pell(Fibonacci) sequence. We close by giving a conjecture about the spectral properties of the binomial matrix we found.

If L, respectively R are matrices with entries binom{i-1,j-1}, respectively binom{i-1,n-j}, it is known that L^2 = I (mod 2), respectively R^3 = I (mod 2), where I is the identity matrix of dimension n > 1 (see P10735-May 1999 issue of the American Mathematical Monthly). We generalize it for any prime p, and give a beautiful connection to Fibonacci numbers.
