On the number of outer connected dominating sets of graphs
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple graph. A set $S\subseteq V(G)$ is called an outer-connected dominating set (or ocd-set) of $G$, if $S$ is a dominating set of $G$ and either $S=V(G)$ or $V\backslash S$ is a connected graph. In this paper we introduce a polynomial which its coefficients are the number of ocd-sets of $G$. We obtain some properties of this polynomial and its coefficients. Also we compute this polynomial for some specific graphs.

Graphs with Non-unique Decomposition and Their Associated Surfaces
The ideal (tagged resp.) triangulation of bounded surface with marked points are associated with skew-symmetric (skew-symmetrizable) exchange matrices. An algo- rithm is established to decompose the graph associated to such matrix. There are finite many graph with non-unique decomposition. We find all such graphs and their decompositions. In addition, we also find the associated ideal (tagged) triangulations to different decompositions.

Exchangeable pairs, switchings, and random regular graphs
Published in Electron. J. Combin., 22(1):P1.33, 2015 • View Publication • BIB
We consider the distribution of cycle counts in a random regular graph, which is closely linked to the graph's spectral properties. We broaden the asymptotic regime in which the cycle counts are known to be approximately Poisson, and we give an explicit bound in total variation distance for the approximation. Using this result, we calculate limiting distributions of linear eigenvalue functionals for random regular graphs. Previous results on the distribution of cycle counts by McKay, Wormald, and Wysocka (2004) used the method of switchings, a combinatorial technique for asymptotic enumeration. Our proof uses Stein's method of exchangeable pairs and demonstrates an interesting connection between the two techniques.

A Note on $\{k,n-k\}$-Factors of Regular Graphs
Let $r$ be an odd integer, and $k$ an even integer. In this note, we present $r$-regular graphs which have no $\{k,r-k\}$-factors for all $1\le k\le {r\over2}-1$. This gives a negative answer to a problem posed by Akbari and Kano recently.

Obstructions for two-vertex alternating embeddings of graphs in surfaces
Published • View Publication • BIB
A class of graphs that lies strictly between the classes of graphs of genus (at most) $k-1$ and $k$ is studied. For a fixed orientable surface $S_k$ of genus $k$, let $A_{xy}^k$ be the minor-closed class of graphs with terminals $x$ and $y$ that either embed into $S_{k-1}$ or admit an embedding $Π$ into $S_k$ such that there is a $Π$-face where $x$ and $y$ appear twice in the alternating order. In this paper, the obstructions for the classes $A_{xy}^k$ are studied. In particular, the complete list of obstructions for $A_{xy}^1$ is presented.

For each sequence X of finite-dimensional Banach spaces there exists a sequence H of finite connected nweighted graphs with maximum degree 3 such that the following conditions on a Banach space Y are equivalent: (1) Y admits uniformly isomorphic embeddings of elements of the sequence X. (2) Y admits uniformly bilipschitz embeddings of elements of the sequence H.

Classification of Indecomposable Flows of Signed Graphs
An indecomposable flow $f$ on a signed graph $Σ$ is a nontrivial integral flow that cannot be decomposed into $f=f_1+f_2$, where $f_1,f_2$ are nontrivial integral flows having the same sign (both $\geq 0$ or both $\leq 0$) at each edge of $Σ$. This paper is to classify indecomposable flows into characteristic vectors of circuits and Eulerian cycle-trees --- a class of signed graphs having a kind of tree structure in which all cycles can be viewed as vertices of a tree. Moreover, each indecomposable flow other than circuit characteristic vectors can be further decomposed into a sum of certain half circuit characteristic vectors having the same sign at each edge. The variety of indecomposable flows of signed graphs is much richer than that of ordinary unsigned graphs.

Terwilliger algebra of Odd graphs
Published • View Publication • BIB
In [The Terwilliger algebra of the Johnson schemes, Discrete Mathematics 307 (2007) 1621--1635], Levstein and Maldonado computed the Terwilliger algebra of the Johnson scheme $J(n,m)$ when $3m\leq n$. The distance-$m$ graph of $J(2m+1,m)$ is the Odd graph $O_{m+1}$. In this paper, we determine the Terwilliger algebra of $O_{m+1}$ and give its basis.

Simple expressions for the long walk distance
Published • View Publication • BIB
The walk distances in graphs are defined as the result of appropriate transformations of the $\sum_{k=0}^\infty(tA)^k$ proximity measures, where $A$ is the weighted adjacency matrix of a connected weighted graph and $t$ is a sufficiently small positive parameter. The walk distances are graph-geodetic, moreover, they converge to the shortest path distance and to the so-called long walk distance as the parameter $t$ approaches its limiting values. In this paper, simple expressions for the long walk distance are obtained. They involve the generalized inverse, minors, and inverses of submatrices of the symmetric irreducible singular M-matrix ${\cal L}=ρI-A,$ where $ρ$ is the Perron root of $A.$

On the generalized (edge-)connectivity of graphs
The generalized $k$-connectivity $κ_k(G)$ of a graph $G$ was introduced by Chartrand et al. in 1984. It is natural to introduce the concept of generalized $k$-edge-connectivity $λ_k(G)$. For general $k$, the generalized $k$-edge-connectivity of a complete graph is obtained. For $k\geq 3$, tight upper and lower bounds of $κ_k(G)$ and $λ_k(G)$ are given for a connected graph $G$ of order $n$, that is, $1\leq κ_k(G)\leq n-\lceil\frac{k}{2}\rceil$ and $1\leq λ_k(G)\leq n-\lceil\frac{k}{2}\rceil$. Graphs of order $n$ such that $κ_k(G)=n-\lceil\frac{k}{2}\rceil$ and $λ_k(G)=n-\lceil\frac{k}{2}\rceil$ are characterized, respectively. Nordhaus-Gaddum-type results for the generalized $k$-connectivity are also obtained. For $k=3$, we study the relation between the edge-connectivity and the generalized 3-edge-connectivity of a graph. Upper and lower bounds of $λ_3(G)$ for a graph $G$ in terms of the edge-connectivity $λ$ of $G$ are obtained, that is, $\frac{3λ-2}{4}\leq λ_3(G)\leq λ$, and two graph classes are given showing that the upper and lower bounds are tight. From these bounds, we obtain that $λ(G)-1\leq λ_3(G)\leq λ(G)$ if $G$ is a connected planar graph, and the relation between the generalized 3-connectivity and generalized 3-edge-connectivity of a graph and its line graph.

Zero-divisor graphs of nilpotent-free semigroups
Published in J. Algebraic Combin. 37 (2013), no. 3, 523-543 • View Publication • BIB
We find strong relationships between the zero-divisor graphs of apparently disparate kinds of nilpotent-free semigroups by introducing the notion of an \emph{Armendariz map} between such semigroups, which preserves many graph-theoretic invariants. We use it to give relationships between the zero-divisor graph of a ring, a polynomial ring, and the annihilating-ideal graph. Then we give relationships between the zero-divisor graphs of certain topological spaces (so-called pearled spaces), prime spectra, maximal spectra, tensor-product semigroups, and the semigroup of ideals under addition, obtaining surprisingly strong structure theorems relating ring-theoretic and topological properties to graph-theoretic invariants of the corresponding graphs.

Extremal graphs for clique-paths
In this paper we deal with a Turán-type problem: given a positive integer n and a forbidden graph H, how many edges can there be in a graph on n vertices without a subgraph H? How does a graph look like if it has this extremal edge number? The forbidden graph in this article is a clique-path: a path of length k where each edge is extended to an r-clique, r >2. We determine both the extremal number and the extremal graphs for sufficiently large n.
Reducts of the random partial order
Published • View Publication • BIB
We determine, up to the equivalence of first-order interdefinability, all structures which are first-order definable in the random partial order. It turns out that these structures fall into precisely five equivalence classes. We achieve this result by showing that there exist exactly five closed permutation groups which contain the automorphism group of the random partial order, and thus expose all symmetries of this structure. Our classification lines up with previous similar classifications, such as the structures definable in the random graph or the order of the rationals; it also provides further evidence for a conjecture due to Simon Thomas which states that the number of structures definable in a homogeneous structure in a finite relational language is, up to first-order interdefinability, always finite. The method we employ is based on a Ramsey-theoretic analysis of functions acting on the random partial order, which allows us to find patterns in such functions and make them accessible to finite combinatorial arguments.

Further Properties of Random Threshold Graphs
In 2009, two different groups independently explored the behavior of random threshold graphs. Here, we extend their techniques to find the distribution of other properties, including matching number, degeneracy, and length of the longest cycle.

The Laplacian lattice of a graph under a simplicial distance function
Published • View Publication • BIB
We provide a complete description of important geometric invariants of the Laplacian lattice of a multigraph under the distance function induced by a regular simplex, namely Voronoi Diagram, Delaunay Triangulation, Delaunay Polytope and its combinatorial structure, Shortest Vectors, Covering and Packing Radius. We use this information to obtain the following results: i. Every multigraph defines a Delaunay triangulation of its Laplacian lattice and this Delaunay triangulation contains complete information of the multigraph up to isomorphism. ii. The number of multigraphs with a given Laplacian lattice is controlled, in particular upper bounded, by the number of different Delaunay triangulations. iii. We obtain formulas for the covering and packing densities of a Laplacian lattice and deduce that in the space of Laplacian lattices of undirected connected multigraphs, the Laplacian lattices of highly connected multigraphs such as Ramanujan multigraphs possess good covering and packing properties.

The rank of a divisor on a finite graph: geometry and computation
We study the problem of computing the rank of a divisor on a finite graph, a quantity that arises in the Riemann-Roch theory on a finite graph developed by Baker and Norine (Advances of Mathematics, 215(2): 766-788, 2007). Our work consists of two parts: the first part is an algorithm whose running time is polynomial for a multigraph with a fixed number of vertices. More precisely, our algorithm has running time O(2^{n \log n})poly(size(G)), where n+1 is the number of vertices of the graph G. The second part consists of a new proof of the fact that testing if rank of a divisor is non-negative or not is in the complexity class NP intersection co-NP and motivated by this proof and its generalisations, we construct a new graph invariant that we call the critical automorphism group of the graph.

Fat Hoffman graphs with smallest eigenvalue at least $-1-τ$
Published in Ars Mathematica Contemporanea 7 (2014) 247-262 • View Publication • BIB
In this paper, we show that all fat Hoffman graphs with smallest eigenvalue at least -1-τ, where τis the golden ratio, can be described by a finite set of fat (-1-τ)-irreducible Hoffman graphs. In the terminology of Woo and Neumaier, we mean that every fat Hoffman graph with smallest eigenvalue at least -1-τis an H-line graph, where H is the set of isomorphism classes of maximal fat (-1-τ)-irreducible Hoffman graphs. It turns out that there are 37 fat (-1-τ)-irreducible Hoffman graphs, up to isomorphism.
Some Results on the Target Set Selection Problem

In this paper we consider a fundamental problem in the area of viral marketing, called T{\scriptsize ARGET} S{\scriptsize ET} S{\scriptsize ELECTION} problem. We study the problem when the underlying graph is a block-cactus graph, a chordal graph or a Hamming graph. We show that if $G$ is a block-cactus graph, then the T{\scriptsize ARGET} S{\scriptsize ET} S{\scriptsize ELECTION} problem can be solved in linear time, which generalizes Chen's result \cite{chen2009} for trees, and the time complexity is much better than the algorithm in \cite{treewidth} (for bounded treewidth graphs) when restricted to block-cactus graphs. We show that if the underlying graph $G$ is a chordal graph with thresholds $θ(v)\leq 2$ for each vertex $v$ in $G$, then the problem can be solved in linear time. For a Hamming graph $G$ having thresholds $θ(v)=2$ for each vertex $v$ of $G$, we precisely determine an optimal target set $S$ for $(G,θ)$. These results partially answer an open problem raised by Dreyer and Roberts \cite{Dreyer2009}.

Upper Tails for Cliques

With $ξ_{k}=ξ_{k}^{n,p}$ the number of copies of $K_k$ in the usual (Erdős-Rényi) random graph $G(n,p)$, $p\geq n^{-2/(k-1)}$ and $η>0$, we show when $k>1$ $$\Pr(ξ_k> (1+η)\E ξ_k) < \exp [-\gO_{η,k} \min\{n^2p^{k-1}\log(1/p), n^kp^{\binom{k}{2}}\}].$$ This is tight up to the value of the constant in the exponent.

The regular number of a graph
Published in Journal of Discrete Mathematical Sciences and Cryptography, vol. 15, no. 2-3, pp. 149-157, 2012 • View Publication • BIB
Let $G$ be a simple undirected graph. The regular number of $G$ is defined to be the minimum number of subsets into which the edge set of $G$ can be partitioned so that the subgraph induced by each subset is regular. In this work, we obtain the regular number of some families of graphs and discuss some general bounds on this parameter. Also, some of the lower or upper bounds proved in \cite{Kulli:Janakiram:Iyer:2001} are shown here to hold with equality.
