Generalized Cauchy identities, trees and multidimensional Brownian motions. Part I: bijective proof of generalized Cauchy identities
Published in Electron. J. Combin. 13(1), 2006, Research Paper 62 • Search Publication
In this series of articles we study connections between combinatorics of multidimensional generalizations of Cauchy identity and continuous objects such as multidimensional Brownian motions and Brownian bridges. In Part I of the series we present a bijective proof of multidimensional generalizations of the Cauchy identity. Our bijection uses oriented planar trees equipped with some linear orders.

On generating series of complementary planar trees
We generalize and reprove an identity of Parker and Loday. It states that certain pairs of generating series associated to pairs of labelled rooted planar trees are mutually inverse under composition.

A LL-lattice reformulation of arithmetree over planar rooted trees. Part II
We continue our reformulation of free dendriform algebras, dealing this time with the free dendriform trialgebra generated be Y over planar rooted trees. We propose a 'deformation' of a vectorial coding used in Part I, giving a LL-lattice on rooted planar trees according to the terminology of A. Blass and B. E. Sagan. The three main operations on trees become explicit, giving thus a complementary approach to a very recent work of P. palacios and M. Ronco. Our parenthesis framework allows a more tractable reformulation to explore the properties of the underlying lattice describing operations and simplify a proof of a fundamental theorem related to arithmetics over trees, the so-called arithmetree. Arithmetree is then viewed as a noncommutative extention of (N,+,x), the integers being played by the corollas. We give also two representations of the super Catalan numbers or Schroder numbers.

Inversion of integral series enumerating planar trees
Published in Sém. Lothar. Combin. 53 (2004/05), Art. B53d, 16 pp. • Search Publication
We consider an integral series f(X,t) which depends on the choice of a set X of labelled planar rooted trees. We prove that its inverse for composition is of the form f(Z,t) for another set Z of trees, deduced from X. The proof is self-contained, though inspired by the Koszul duality theory of quadratic operads.

Sets with two associative operation

In this paper we consider dimonoids, which are sets equipped with two associative binary operations. Dimonoids in the sense of J.-L. Loday are xamples of duplexes. The set of all permutations, gives an example of a duplex which is not a dimonoid. We construct a free duplex generated by a given set via planar trees and then we prove that the set of all permutations form a free duplex on an explicitly described set of generators. We also consider duplexes coming from planar binary trees and vertices of the cubes. We prove that these duplexes are free with one generator in appropriate variety of duplexes.

Trialgebras and families of polytopes

We show that the family of standard simplices and the family of Stasheff polytopes are dual to each other in the following sense. The chain modules of the standard simplices, resp. the Stasheff polytopes, assemble to give an operad. We show that these operads are dual of each other in the operadic sense. The main result of this paper is to show that they are both Koszul operads. As a consequence the generating series of the standard simplices and the generating series of the Stasheff polytopes are inverse to each other. The two operads give rise to new types of algebras with 3 generating operations, 11 relations, respectively 7 relations, that we call {\it associative trialgebras} and {\it dendriform trialgebras} respectively. The free dendriform trialgebra, which is based on planar trees, has an interesting Hopf algebra structure, which will be dealt with in another paper. Similarly the family of cubes gives rise to an operad which happens to be self-dual for Koszul duality.

A classification of plane and planar 2-trees
Published in Theorical Computer Science, 307 (2003), 337-363 • View PublicationBIB
We present new functional equations for the species of plane and of planar (in the sense of Harary and Palmer, 1973) 2-trees and some associated pointed species. We then deduce the explicit molecular expansion of these species, i.e a classification of their structures according to their stabilizers. There result explicit formulas in terms of Catalan numbers for their associated generating series, including the asymmetry index series. This work is closely related to the enumeration of polyene hydrocarbons of molecular formula C_nH_n+2.

Arithmetree

We construct an addition and a multiplication on the set of planar binary trees, closely related to addition and multiplication on the integers. This gives rise to a new kind of (noncommutative) arithmetic theory. The price to pay for this generalization is that, first the addition is not commutative, second the multiplication is distributive with the addition only on the left. This algebraic structure is the "exponent part" of the free dendriform algebra on one generator, a notion related to several other types of algebras. In the second part we extend this theory to all the planar trees. Then it is related to the free dendriform trialgebra as constructed in Loday-Ronco's paper "Une dualite' entre simplexes standards et polytopes de Stasheff".
