Generic numerical semigroups
The use of compositions simplifies some aspects of the theory of numerical semigroups. We illustrate this by giving a new proof for the asymptotic number C((1 + $\sqrt$ 5)/2) g of numerical semigroups of genus g and by describing the constant C explicitly 1 .

Weyl-Mahonian Statistics for Weighted Flags of Type A-D
We relate properties of weighted flags (or multiflags) of type AD to statistics of the corresponding Weyl groups. For type A, we recover the Mahonian statistics on symmetric groups. Finally, we sketch briefly an easy extension incorporating statistics for so-called Euler-polynomials.

On the number of perfect lattices
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show that the number $p\_d$ of non-similar perfect $d$-dimensional lattices satisfies eventually the inequalities$e^{d^{1-ε}}<p\_d<e^{d^{3+ε}}$ for arbitrary smallstrictly positive $ε$.

An easy upper bound for Ramsey numbers
It is observed that the conjugacy growth series of the infinite finitary symmetric group with respect to the generating set of transpositions is the generating series of the partition function. Other conjugacy growth series are computed, for other generating sets, for restricted permutational wreath products of finite groups by the finitary symmetric group, and for alternating groups. Similar methods are used to compute usual growth polynomials and conjugacy growth polynomials for finite symmetric groups and alternating groups, with respect to various generating sets of transpositions. Computations suggest a class of finite graphs, that we call partition-complete, which generalizes the class of semi-hamiltonian graphs, and which is of independent interest. Numerical evidences indicate that the coefficients of a series related to the finitary alternating group seem to satisfy congruence relations reminiscent of Ramanujan's congruences for the partition function.

Number of right ideals and a $q$-analogue of indecomposable permutations
Published • View PublicationBIB
We prove that the number of right ideals of codimension $n$ in the algebra of noncommutative Laurent polynomials in two variables over the finite field $\mathbb F\_q$ is equal to $(q-1)^{n+1} q^{\frac{(n+1)(n-2)}{2}}\sum\_θq^{inv(θ)}$, where the sum is over all indecomposable permutations in $S\_{n+1}$ and where $inv(θ)$stands for the number of inversions of $θ$.

Chebyshev polynomials, quadratic surds and a variation of Pascal's triangle
Using Chebyshev polynomialsof both kinds, we construct rational fractions which are convergents of the smallest root of $x^2-αx+1$ for $α=3,4,5,\dots$.Some of the underlying identities suggest an identity involving binomialcoefficients which leads to a triangular array sharing many propertieswith Pascal's triangle.

The Ring of Support-Classes of $\mathrm{SL}\_2(\mathbb F\_q)$
We introduce and study a subring $\mathcal{SC}$ of $\mathbb Z[\mathrm{SL}\_2(\mathbb F\_q)]$ obtained by summing elements of $\mathrm{SL}\_2(\mathbb F\_q)$ according to their support. The ring $\mathcal SC$ can be used for the construction of several association schemes.

Counting invertible Schrödinger Operators over Finite Fields for Trees, Cycles and Complete Graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We count invertible Schrödinger operators (perturbations by diagonal matrices of the adjacency matrix) over finite fieldsfor trees, cycles and complete graphs. This is achieved for trees through the definition and use of local invariants (algebraic constructions of perhapsindependent interest).Cycles and complete graphs are treated by ad hoc methods.

Construction of some perfect integral lattices with minimum 4
Published • View PublicationBIB
We construct several families of perfect sublattices with minimum $4$ of $\mathbb Z^d$. In particular, the number of $d-$dimensional perfect integral lattices with minimum $4$ grows faster than $d^k$ for every exponent $k$.

On the enumeration of labelled hypertrees and of labelled bipartite trees
We give a simple formula for the number of hypertrees with $k$ hyperedges of given sizes and $n+1$ labelled vertices with prescribed degrees. A slight generalization of this formula counts labelled bipartite trees with prescribed degrees in each class of vertices.

Chromatic statistics for Catalan and Fuß-Catalan numbers
Published in Electronic J. Combin. 18(1) (2011), Article #P152 • View PublicationBIB
We refine Catalan numbers and Fuß-Catalan numbers by introducing colour statistics for triangulations of polygons and $d$-dimensional generalisations there-of which we call Fuß-Catalan complexes. Our refinements consist in showing that the number of triangulations, respectively Fuß-Catalan complexes, with a given colour distribution of its vertices is given by closed product formulae. The crucial ingredient in the proof is the Lagrange-Good inversion formula.

Triangulations of nearly convex polygons
Counting Euclidean triangulations with vertices in a finite set $\C$ of the convex hull $\conv(\C)$ of $\C$ is difficult in general, both algorithmically and theoretically. The aim of this paper is to describe nearly convex polygons, a class of configurations for which this problem can be solved to some extent. Loosely speaking, a nearly convex polygon is an infinitesimal perturbation of a weakly convex polygon (a convex polygon with edges subdivided by additional points). Our main result shows that the triangulation polynomial, enumerating all triangulations of a nearly convex polygon, is defined in a straightforward way in terms of polynomials associated to the ``perturbed'' edges.

Counting packings of generic subsets in finite groups
Published in Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 19, 3 (2012) #P7 • View PublicationBIB
A packing of subsets $\mathcal S_1,..., \mathcal S_n$ in a group $G$ is a sequence $(g_1,...,g_n)$ such that $g_1\mathcal S_1,...,g_n\mathcal S_n$ are disjoint subsets of $G$. We give a formula for the number of packings if the group $G$ is finite and if the subsets $\mathcal S_1,...,\mathcal S_n$ satisfy a genericity condition. This formula can be seen as a generalization of the falling factorials which encode the number of packings in the case where all the sets $\mathcal S_i$ are singletons.

Eulerian partitions for configurations of skew lines
In this paper, which is a complement of \cite{BG}, we study a few elementary invariants for configurations of skew lines, as introduced and analyzed first by Viro and his collaborators. We slightly simplify the exposition of some known invariants and use them to define a natural partition of the lines in a skew configuration. We also describe an algorithm which constructs a spindle-permutation for a given switching class, or proves non-existence of such a spindle-permutation.

Pseudo-factorials, elliptic functions, and continued fractions
Published • View PublicationBIB
This study presents miscellaneous properties of pseudo-factorials, which are numbers whose recurrence relation is a twisted form of that of usual factorials. These numbers are associated with special elliptic functions, most notably, a Dixonian and a Weierstrass function, which parametrize the Fermat cubic curve and are relative to a hexagonal lattice. A continued fraction expansion of the ordinary generating function of pseudo-factorials, first discovered empirically, is established here. This article also provides a characterization of the associated orthogonal polynomials, which appear to form a new family of "elliptic polynomials", as well as various other properties of pseudo-factorials, including a hexagonal lattice sum expression and elementary congruences.

In every dimension $d\ge1$, we establish the existence of a constant $v_d>0$ and of a subset $\mathcal U_d$ of $\mathbb R^d$ such that the following holds: $\mathcal C+\mathcal U_d=\mathbb R^d$ for every convex set $\mathcal C\subset \mathbb R^d$ of volume at least $v_d$ and $\mathcal U_d$ contains at most $\log(r)^{d-1}r^d$ points at distance at most $r$ from the origin, for every large $r$.

On polytopes associated to factorisations of prime-powers
We study polytopes associated to factorisations of prime powers. These polytopes have explicit descriptions either in terms of their vertices or as intersections of closed halfspaces associated to their facets. We give formulae for their $f-$vectors.

On a family of tridiagonal matrices
We show that certain integral positive definite symmetric tridiagonal matrices of determinant $n$ are in one to one correspondence with elements of $(\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z)^*$. We study some properties of this correspondence. In a somewhat unrelated second part we discuss a construction which associates a sequence of integral polytopes to every integral symmetric matrix.
