The sorting-Denert statistic
Denert's statistic is a classical Mahonian statistic on permutations. Together with the excedance number, it forms an Euler--Mahonian pair, a result first conjectured by Denert and later proved by Foata and Zeilberger. Motivated by this classical result, we introduce the sorting-Denert statistic, a sorting-index analogue of Denert's statistic. It is obtained by replacing, in Denert's statistic, the inversion number of the non-excedance-letter subsequence with its sorting index. We prove that the sorting-Denert statistic, together with the excedance number, forms a new Euler--Mahonian pair.
Mahonian statistics on words with fixed weak right-to-left minima and on permutations with a fixed descent set
Our first main result shows that, for words with a fixed multiset of weak right-to-left minima, the statistics within each of the following three classes are equidistributed:
1. Mahonian statistics: $\textsf{inv}$, $\textsf{maj}$, $\textsf{den}$, $\textsf{mak}$, $\textsf{mad}$, $\textsf{inv}_{r}$, $r\textsf{maj}$, and $r\textsf{den}$;
2. Euler--Mahonian statistics: $(\textsf{des},\textsf{maj})$, $(\textsf{exc},\textsf{den})$, and $(\textsf{des},\textsf{mak})$;
3. $r$-Euler--Mahonian statistics: $(r\textsf{des},r\textsf{maj})$ and $(r\textsf{exc},r\textsf{den})$.
Our second main result shows that, for permutations with a fixed descent set, the statistics within each of the following two classes are equidistributed:
1. Mahonian statistics: $\textsf{inv}$, $\textsf{imaj}$, $\textsf{imak}$, $\textsf{iinv}_{r}$, and $\textsf{istat}$;
2. Mahonian--Stirling-type statistics: $(\textsf{inv},\textsf{lrmax})$, $(\textsf{imaj},\textsf{lrmax})$, $(\textsf{imak},\textsf{lrmax})$, and $(\textsf{iinv}_{r},\textsf{lrmax})$.
Moreover, we apply these results to set partitions, 221-avoiding words, alternating permutations, and permutations with $k$ alternating runs, thereby obtaining several families of equidistributed Mahonian-type statistics on these combinatorial structures.
Further refinements of Euler-Mahonian statistics for multipermutations
Permutation statistics constitute a classical subject of enumerative combinatorics. In her study of the genus zeta function, Denert discovered a new Mahonian statistic for permutations, which is called the Denert's statistic ({\bf $\den$}) by Foata and Zeilberger. As natural extensions of the $r$-descent number ({\bf $r\des$}) and the $r$-major index ({\bf $r\maj$}) introduced by Rawlings, Liu introduced the $g$-gap $\ell$-level descent number ({\bf $g\des_{\ell}$}) and the $g$-gap $\ell$-level major index ({\bf $g\maj_{\ell}$}) for permutations. In this paper, we introduce the $g$-gap $\ell$-level Denert's statistic ({\bf $g\den_{\ell}$}) and the $g$-gap $\ell$-level excedance number ({\bf $g\exc_{\ell}$}) for multipermutations, which serve as natural generalizations of the Denert's statistic ({\bf $\den$}) and the excedance number ({\bf $\exc$}) for multipermutations first introduced by Han. By constructing two explicit bijections, we establish the equidistribution of the pairs $(g\exc_{\ell}, g\den_{h} )$ and $(g\des_{\ell}, g\maj_{\ell})$ over multipermutations for all $1\leq h\leq g+\ell$. Our result provides a new proof of the equidistribution of the pairs ($\des$, $\maj$) and ($\exc$, $\den$) over multipermutations originally derived by Han and enables us to confirm a recent conjecture posed by Huang-Lin-Yan. Furthermore, we demonstrate that for all $1\leq h\leq g+\ell$, the pair $(g\exc_\ell, g\den_{h})$ is $r$-Euler-Mahonian over multipermutations of $M=\{1^k, 2^k, \ldots, n^k\}$ where $r=g+\ell-1$ and $k\geq 1$, which extends a recent novel result derived by Liu from permutations to multipermutations.
Signed Mahonian Polynomials on Colored Derangements
The polynomial $\sum_{π\in W}q^{maj(π)}$ of major index over a classical Weyl group $W$ with a generating set $S$ is called the Mahonian polynomial over $W$, and also the polynomial $\sum_{π\in W}(-1)^{l(π)}q^{maj(π)}$ of major index together with sign over the group $W$ is called the signed Mahonian polynomial over the group $W$, where $l$ is the length function on $W$ defined in terms of the generating set $S$. We concern with the signed Mahonian polynomial $$\sum_{π\in D_{n}^{(c)}}(-1)^{L(π)}q^{fmaj(π)}$$ on the set $D_{n}^{(c)}$ of colored derangements in the group $G_{c,n}$ of colored permutations, where $L$ denotes the length function defined by means of a complex root system described by Bremke and Malle in $G_{c,n}$ and $fmaj$ defined by Adin and Roichman in $G_{c,n}$ represents the \textit{flag-major index}, which is a Mahonian statistic. As an application of the formula for signed Mahonian polynomials on the set of colored derangements, we will derive a formula to count colored derangements of even length in $G_{c,n}$ when $c$ is an even number. Finally, we conclude by providing a formula for the difference between the number of derangements of even and odd lengths in $G_{c,n}$ for every positive integer $c$, regardless of whether c is odd or even.
New $r$-Euler--Mahonian statistics involving Denert's statistic
Recently, we proved the equidistribution of the pairs of permutation statistics $(r\textsf{des},r\textsf{maj})$ and $(r\textsf{exc},r\textsf{den})$. Any pair of permutation statistics that is equidistributed with these pairs is said to be $r$-Euler--Mahonian. Several classes of $r$-Euler--Mahonian statistics were established by Huang--Lin--Yan and Huang--Yan. Inspired by their bijections, we provide a new bijective proof of the classical result that $(\textsf{exc},\textsf{den})$ is Euler--Mahonian. Using this bijection, we further show that $(\textsf{exc}_{r},\textsf{den})$ is $r$-Euler--Mahonian, where $\textsf{exc}_{r}$ denotes the number of $r$-level excedances (i.e., excedances at least $r$). Furthermore, by extending our bijection, we establish a more general result that encompasses all the aforementioned results.
Modified Macdonald polynomials and mu-Mahonian statistics
The Haglund--Haiman--Loehr theorem provides the following combinatorial formula for the modified Macdonald polynomials: $$\tilde{H}_μ(X;q,t)=\sum_{σ: μ\rightarrow \mathbb{P}}x^σt^{maj(σ)}q^{inv(σ)}.$$ Inspired by Martin's multiline-queue formula for the stationary distribution of multitype asymmetric simple exclusion processes, Corteel, Haglund, Mandelshtam, Mason and Williams recently introduced the queue inversion statistic $quinv$ and conjectured that the tableaux formula for $\tilde{H}_μ(X;q,t)$ is invariant if the inversion statistic $inv$ is replaced by $quinv$. This was subsequently resolved by Ayyer, Mandelshtam and Martin, who proposed a stronger conjecture on the equivalence of the two refined formulas for $\tilde{H}_μ(X;q,t)$.
Our main result confirms this Ayyer--Mandelshtam--Martin conjecture. We establish an equidistribution between the pairs $(inv,maj)$ and $(quinv,maj)$ of $μ$-Mahonian statistics on any row-equivalency class $[τ]$, where $τ$ is a filling of the Young diagram of $μ$. As a byproduct of our approach, we show that if $τ$ is a rectangular filling, the triples $(inv,quinv,maj)$ and $(quinv,inv,maj)$ have the same distribution over $[τ]$.
Mahonian Statistics and Vincular Patterns on Permutations over Multisets
Most Mahonian statistics can be expressed as a linear combination of vincular patterns. This is not only true with statistics on the permutation set, but it can also be applied for statistics on the permutation with repetition set. By following the method extending the vincular patterns combinations presented by Kitaev and Vajnovszki, we discover 8 vincular-patterns combinations of mad and madl extensions that are possible to be Mahonian. Some of these have been proved to be Mahonian on repetitive permutations by Clarke, Steingrimsson and Zeng, while the rest are new statistics extensions. In this thesis, we determine combinations of vincular pattern extension of mad and madl in Clarke, Steingrimsson and Zeng s paper, which have been proved to be Mahonian on the repetitive permutations. This result will be used to support the proof of Mahonity of the new statistics extensions. We show that these new statistics extensions are also Mahonian by constructing an involution Φ on repetitive permutations, which preserves the descents statistics and transforms new statistics extensions to Mahonian mad and madl extensions of Clarke.

The polynomial of the major index ${\rm maj}_W (σ)$ over the subset $T$ of the Coxeter group $W$ is called the Mahonian polynomial over $T$, where ${\rm maj}_W (σ)$ is a Mahonian statistic of an element $σ\in T$, whereas the polynomial of the major index ${\rm maj}_W (σ)$ with the sign $(-1)^{\ell_W(σ)}$ over the subset $T$ is referred to as the signed Mahonian polynomial over $T$, where ${\ell_W(σ)}$ is the length of $σ\in T$. Gessel, Wachs, and Chow established the formulas for the Mahonian polynomials over the sets of derangements in the symmetric group $S_n$ and the hyperoctahedral group $B_n$. By extending Wachs' approach and employing a refinement of Stanley's shuffle theorem established in our recent paper, we derive the formula for the Mahonian polynomials over the set of derangements in the even-signed permutation group $D_n$. This completes a picture which is now known for all the classical Weyl groups. Gessel-Simion, Adin-Gessel-Roichman, and Biagioli previously established formulas for the signed Mahonian polynomials over the classical Weyl groups. Building upon their formulas, we derive the formulas for the signed Mahonian polynomials over the set of derangements in classical Weyl groups. As applications of the formulas for the (signed) Mahonian polynomials over the sets of derangements in the classical Weyl groups, we obtain enumerative formulas of the number of derangements in classical Weyl groups with even lengths.
Diagonal operators, $q$-Whittaker functions and rook theory
We discuss the problem posed by Bender, Coley, Robbins and Rumsey of enumerating the number of subspaces which have a given profile with respect to a linear operator over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. We solve this problem in the case where the operator is diagonalizable. The solution leads us to a new class of polynomials $b_{μν}(q)$ indexed by pairs of integer partitions. These polynomials have several interesting specializations and can be expressed as positive sums over semistandard tableaux. We present a new correspondence between set partitions and semistandard tableaux. A close analysis of this correspondence reveals the existence of several new set partition statistics which generate the polynomials $b_{μν}(q)$; each such statistic arises from a Mahonian statistic on multiset permutations. The polynomials $b_{μν}(q)$ are also given a description in terms of coefficients in the monomial expansion of $q$-Whittaker symmetric functions which are specializations of Macdonald polynomials. We express the Touchard--Riordan generating polynomial for chord diagrams by number of crossings in terms of $q$-Whittaker functions. We also introduce a class of $q$-Stirling numbers defined in terms of the polynomials $b_{μν}(q)$ and present connections with $q$-rook theory in the spirit of Garsia and Remmel.

Two well-known distributions in the study of permutation statistics are the Mahonian and Eulerian distributions. Mahonian statistics include the major index MAJ and the number of inversions INV, while examples of Eulerian statistics are the number of descents des and excedances exc. Also of interest are pairs of permutation statistics that have the same joint distribution as (des, MAJ); these are called Euler Mahonian pairs. In this paper we define a Stirling statistic as one that is equidistributed with the number of right-to-left minima rlmin and a Stirling- Euler-Mahonian triple as a triple of statistics with the same trivariate distribution as (rlmin, des, MAJ). We prove that several triples involving well-known statistics are Stirling-Euler-Mahonian. A general bijective technique is demonstrated for any Mahonian statistic that has a permutation code. Finally, we note several properties of Stirling-Euler-Mahonian triples that follow from earlier results.
Combinatorial Statistics on Pattern-avoiding Permutations
The study of Mahonian statistics dated back to 1915 when MacMahon showed that the major index and the inverse number have the same distribution on a set of permutations with length n. Since then, many Mahonian statistics have been discovered and much effort have been done to find the equidistribution between two Mahonian statistics on permutations avoiding length-3 classical patterns. In recent years, Amini and Do et al. have done extensive research with various methods to prove the equidistributions, ranging from using generating functions, Dyck paths, block decompositions, to bijections. In this thesis, we will solve the conjectured equidistribution between bast and foze on Av(312) using the bijection method, as well as refine two established results by Do et al. with a combinatorial approach.

Laguerre histories (restricted or not) are certain weighted Motzkin paths with two types of level steps. They are, on one hand, in natural bijection with the set of permutations, and on the other hand, yield combinatorial interpretations for the moments of Laguerre polynomials via Flajolet's combinatorial theory of continued fractions. In this paper, we first introduce a reflection-like involution on restricted Laguerre histories. Then, we demonstrate its power by composing this involution with three bijections due to Fran\ccon-Viennot, Foata-Zeilberger, and Yan-Zhou-Lin, respectively. A host of equidistribution results involving various (multiset-valued) permutation statistics follow from these applications. As byproducts, seven apparently new Mahonian statistics present themselves; new interpretations of known Mahonian statistics are discovered as well. Finally, in our effort to show the interconnections between these Mahonian statistics, we are naturally led to a new link between the variant Yan-Zhou-Lin bijection and the Kreweras complement.

A partition of the set $[n]:=\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ is a collection of disjoint nonempty subsets (or blocks) of $[n]$, whose union is $[n]$. In this paper we consider the following rarely used representation for set partitions: given a partition of $[n]$ with blocks $B_{1},B_{2},\ldots,B_{m}$ satisfying $\max B_{1}<\max B_{2}<\cdots<\max B_{m}$, we represent it by a word $w=w_{1}w_{2}\ldots w_{n}$ such that $i\in B_{w_{i}}$, $1\leq i\leq n$. We prove that the Mahonian statistics INV, MAJ, MAJ$_{d}$, $r$-MAJ, Z, DEN, MAK, MAD are all equidistributed on set partitions via this representation, and that the Euler-Mahonian statistics (des, MAJ), (mstc, INV), (exc, DEN), (des, MAK) are all equidistributed on set partitions via this representation.

We develop direct bijections between the set $F_n^k$ of minimal factorizations of the long cycle $(0\,1\,\cdots\, kn)$ into $(k+1)$-cycle factors and the set $R_n^k$ of rooted labelled forests on vertices $\{1,\ldots,n\}$ with edges coloured with $\{0,1,\ldots,k-1\}$ that map natural statistics on the former to generalized Mahonian statistics on the latter. In particular, we examine the generalized major index on forests $R_n^k$ and show that it has a simple and natural interpretation in the context of factorizations. Our results extend those by the present authors (2021), which treated the case $k=1$ through a different approach, and provide a bijective proof of the equidistribution observed by Yan (1997) between displacement of $k$-parking functions and generalized inversions of $k$-forests.

We prove the equidistribution of several multistatistics over some classes of permutations avoiding a $3$-length pattern. We deduce the equidistribution, on the one hand of inv and foze" statistics, and on the other hand that of maj and makl statistics, over these classes of pattern avoiding permutations. Here inv and maj are the celebrated Mahonian statistics, foze" is one of the statistics defined in terms of generalized patterns in the 2000 pioneering paper of Babson and Steingrímsson, and makl is one of the statistics defined by Clarke, Steingrímsson and Zeng in 1997. These results solve several conjectures posed by Amini in 2018.
Statistics on permutations with bounded drop size
Permutations with bounded drop size, which we also call bounded permutations, was introduced by Chung, Claesson, Dukes and Graham. Petersen introduced a new Mahonian statistic the sorting index, which is denoted by $\sor$. Meanwhile, Wilson introduced the statistic $\DIS$, which turns out to satisfy that
$\sor(σ)=\DIS(σ^{-1})$ for any permutation $σ$. In this paper, we maintain Petersen's method to deduce the generating functions of $(\inv, \lmax)$ and $(\DIS, \cyc)$ over bounded permutations to show their equidistribution. Moreover, the generating function of $\des$ over $213$-avoiding bounded permutations and some related equidistributions are given as well.

We propose a unified approach to prove general formulas for the joint distribution of an Eulerian and a Mahonian statistic over a set of colored permutations by specializing Poirier's colored quasisymmetric functions. We apply this method to derive formulas for Euler-Mahonian distributions on colored permutations, derangements and involutions. A number of known formulas are recovered as special cases of our results, including formulas of Biagioli-Zeng, Assaf, Haglund-Loehr-Remmel, Chow-Mansour, Biagioli-Caselli, Bagno-Biagioli, Faliharimalala-Zeng. Several new results are also obtained. For instance, a two-parameter flag major index on signed permutations is introduced and formulas for its distribution and its joint distribution with some Eulerian partners are proven.

Using the notion of Mahonian statistic on acyclic posets, we introduce a $q$-analogue of the $h$-polynomial of a simple generalized permutohedron. We focus primarily on the case of nestohedra and on explicit computations for many interesting examples, such as $S_n$-invariant nestohedra, graph associahedra, and Stanley--Pitman polytopes. For the usual (Stasheff) associahedron, our generalization yields an alternative $q$-analogue to the well-studied Narayana numbers.
Weyl-Mahonian Statistics for Weighted Flags of Type A-D
We relate properties of weighted flags (or multiflags) of type AD to statistics of the corresponding Weyl groups. For type A, we recover the Mahonian statistics on symmetric groups. Finally, we sketch briefly an easy extension incorporating statistics for so-called Euler-polynomials.
From $q$-Stirling numbers to the Delta Conjecture: a viewpoint from vincular patterns

The distribution of certain Mahonian statistic (called $\mathrm{BAST}$) introduced by Babson and Steingrímsson over the set of permutations that avoid vincular pattern $1\underline{32}$, is shown bijectively to match the distribution of major index over the same set. This new layer of equidistribution is then applied to give alternative interpretations of two related $q$-Stirling numbers of the second kind, studied by Carlitz and Gould. Moreover, extensions to an Euler-Mahonian statistic over ordered set partitions, and to statistics over ordered multiset partitions present themselves naturally. The latter of which is shown to be related to the recently proven Delta Conjecture. During the course, a refined relation between $\mathrm{BAST}$ and its reverse complement $\mathrm{STAT}$ is derived as well.
