The Cherednik kernel and generalized exponents
We show how the knowledge of the Fourier coefficients of the Cherednik kernel leads to combinatorial formulas for generalized exponents. We recover known formulas for generalized exponents of irreducible representations parameterized by dominant roots, and obtain new formulas for the generalized exponents for irreducible representations parameterized by the dominant elements of the root lattice which are sums of two orthogonal short roots.

Quantizing Using Lattice Intersections
Published in Discrete and Computational Geometry 25 (2003), 799-824 • View PublicationBIB
The usual quantizer based on an n-dimensional lattice L maps a point x in R^n to a closest lattice point. Suppose L is the intersection of lattices L_1, ..., L_r. Then one may instead combine the information obtained by simultaneously quantizing x with respect to each of the L_i. This corresponds to decomposing R^n into a honeycomb of cells which are the intersections of the Voronoi cells for the L_i, and identifying the cell to which x belongs. This paper shows how to write several standard lattices (the face-centered and body-centered cubic lattices, the root lattices D_4, E_6*, E_8, the Coxeter-Todd, Barnes-Wall and Leech lattices, etc.) in a canonical way as intersections of a small number of simpler, decomposable, lattices. The cells of the honeycombs are given explicitly and the mean squared quantizing error calculated in the cases when the intersection lattice is the face-centered or body-centered cubic lattice or the lattice D_4.

Non-rigidity degrees of root lattices and their duals
Published • View PublicationBIB
Non-rigidity degree of a lattice $L$, nrd$L$, is dimension of the L-type domain to which $L$ belongs. We complete here the table of nrd's of all root lattices and their duals; namely, the hardest remaining case of $D_n^*$, and the case of $E_7^*$ are decided. We describe explicitly the $L$-type domain ${\cal D}(D_n^*)$, $n \ge 4$. For $n$ odd, it is a non-simplicial polyhedral open cone of dimension $n$. For $n$ even, it is one-dimensional, i.e. for even $n$, $D_n^*$ is an edge form.

Embeddings of Schur functions into types B/C/D
Published • View PublicationBIB
We consider the problem of embedding the semi-ring of Schur-positive symmetric polynomials into its analogue for the classical types $B/C/D$. If we preserve highest weights and add the additional Lie-theoretic parity assumption that the weights in images of Schur functions lie in a single translate of the root lattice, there are exactly two solutions. These naturally extend the Kirillov--Reshetikhin decompositions of representations of symplectic and orthogonal quantum affine algebras $U_q(\hat{g})$ (some still conjectural, some recently proven).

Symmetry Structure of the Elser-Sloane Quasicrystal
Published in Aperiodic 97, eds. M. de Boissieu et al., World Scientific, Singapore (1998), pp. 63-67. • Search Publication
The 4D quasicrystal of Elser and Sloane, obtained from the root lattice E8 by the cut-and-project method, can be parametrized by the points of an 8D torus. This allows for an explicit analysis of its point and inflation symmetry structure.

Enumeration of walks on lattices. I
This work develops a methodical approach to counting of walks on cartesian products, biproducts, symmetric and exterior powers and bipowers, Schur operations, coverings and semicoverings of weighted graphs. For weight and root lattices of semisimple Lie algebras, this approach allows us to compute various combinatorial and representation-theoretical constants, in particular, the number of plane symplectic wave graphs with given number of vertices.
