Enumeration of Switching Non-isomorphic Signed Wheels
Two signed graphs are called switching isomorphic to each other if one is isomorphic to a switching of the other. The wheel $W_n$ is the join of the cycle $C_n$ and a vertex. For $0 \leq p \leq n$, $ψ_{p}(n)$ is defined to be the number of switching non-isomorphic signed $W_n$ with exactly $p$ negative edges on $C_n$. The number of switching non-isomorphic signed $W_n$ is denoted by $ψ(n)$. In this paper, we compute the values of $ψ_{p}(n)$ for $p=0,1,2,3,4,n-4,n-3,n-2,n-1,n$ and of $ψ(n)$ for $n=4,5,...,10$. Our method of obtaining $ψ_{p}(n)$ not only count the switching non-isomorphic signed wheels but also generates them.

We propose to use tensor diagrams and the Fomin-Pylyavskyy conjectures to explore the connection between symbol alphabets of $n$-particle amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ Yang-Mills theory and certain polytopes associated to the Grassmannian G(4, $n$). We show how to assign a web (a planar tensor diagram) to each facet of these polytopes. Webs with no inner loops are associated to cluster variables (rational symbol letters). For webs with a single inner loop we propose and explicitly evaluate an associated web series that contains information about algebraic symbol letters. In this manner we reproduce the results of previous analyses of $n \le 8$, and find that the polytope $\mathcal{C}^\dagger(4,9)$ encodes all rational letters, and all square roots of the algebraic letters, of known nine-particle amplitudes.

The counting of the dimension of the space of $U(N) \times U(N) \times U(N)$ polynomial invariants of a complex $3$-index tensor as a function of degree $n$ is known in terms of a sum of squares of Kronecker coefficients. For $n \le N$, the formula can be expressed in terms of a sum of symmetry factors of partitions of $n$ denoted $Z_3(n)$. We derive the large $n$ all-orders asymptotic formula for $ Z_3(n)$ making contact with high order results previously obtained numerically. The derivation relies on the dominance in the sum, of partitions with many parts of length $1$. The dominance of other small parts in restricted partition sums leads to related asymptotic results. The result for the $3$-index tensor observables gives the large $n$ asymptotic expansion for the counting of bipartite ribbon graphs with $n$ edges, and for the dimension of the associated Kronecker permutation centralizer algebra. We explain how the different terms in the asymptotics are associated with probability distributions over ribbon graphs. The large $n$ dominance of small parts also leads to conjectured formulae for the asymptotics of invariants for general $d$-index tensors. The coefficients of $ 1/n$ in these expansions involve Stirling numbers of the second kind along with restricted partition sums.

The hat guessing number is a graph invariant based on a hat guessing game introduced by Winkler. Using a new vertex decomposition argument involving an edge density theorem of Erdős for hypergraphs, we show that the hat guessing number of all outerplanar graphs is less than $2^{125000}$. We also define the class of layered planar graphs, which contains outerplanar graphs, and we show that every layered planar graph has bounded hat guessing number.

Let $A$ be an $n\times n$ matrix and let $\vee^k A$ be its $k$-th symmetric tensor product. We express the normalized trace of $\vee^k A$ as an integral of the $k$-th powers of the numerical values of $A$ over the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{n}$ of $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ with respect to the normalized Euclidean surface measure. Equivalently, this expression in turn can be interpreted as an integral representation for the (normalized) complete symmetric polynomials over $\mathbb{C}^n$. As applications, we present a new proof for the MacMahon Master Theorem in enumerative combinatorics. Then, our next application deals with a generalization of the work of Cuttler et al. in \cite{cuttler} concerning the monotonicity of products of complete symmetric polynomials. In the process, we give a solution to an open problem that was raised by I. Rovenţa and L. E. Temereanca in \cite{roventa}.

A graph is {\em near-bipartite} if its vertex set can be partitioned into an independent set and a set that induces a forest. It is clear that near-bipartite graphs are $3$-colorable. In this note, we show that planar graphs without cycles of lengths in $\{4, 6, 8\}$ are near-bipartite.

We derive combinatorial necessary conditions for discrete-time quantum walks defined by regular mixed graphs to be periodic. If the quantum walk is periodic, all the eigenvalues of the time evolution matrices must be algebraic integers. Focusing on this, we explore which ring the coefficients of the characteristic polynomials should belong to. On the other hand, the coefficients of the characteristic polynomials of $η$-Hermitian adjacency matrices have combinatorial implications. From these, we can find combinatorial implications in the coefficients of the characteristic polynomials of the time evolution matrices, and thus derive combinatorial necessary conditions for mixed graphs to be periodic. For example, if a $k$-regular mixed graph with $n$ vertices is periodic, then $2n/k$ must be an integer. As an application of this work, we determine periodicity of mixed complete graphs and mixed graphs with a prime number of vertices.

We study the realizability of simplicial complexes with a given pair of integer sequences, representing the node degree distribution and the facet size distribution, respectively. While the $s$-uniform variant of the problem is $\mathsf{NP}$-complete when $s \geq 3$, we identify two populations of input sequences, most of which can be solved in polynomial time using a recursive algorithm that we contribute. Combining with a sampler for the simplicial configuration model [J.-G. Young $\textit{et al.}$, Phys. Rev. E $\textbf{96}$, 032312 (2017)], we facilitate the efficient sampling of simplicial ensembles from arbitrary degree and size distributions. We find that, contrary to expectations based on dyadic networks, increasing the nodes' degrees reduces the number of loops in simplicial complexes. Our work unveils a fundamental constraint on the degree-size sequences and sheds light on further analysis of higher-order phenomena based on local structures.

Let $n,k,t$ be positive integers. What is the maximum number of arcs in a digraph on $n$ vertices in which there are at most $t$ distinct walks of length $k$ with the same endpoints? In this paper, we prove that the maximum number is equal to $n(n-1)/2$ and the extremal digraph are the transitive tournaments when $k\ge n-1\ge \max\{2t+1,2\left\lceil \sqrt{2t+9/4}+1/2\right\rceil+3\}$. Based on this result, we may determine the maximum numbers and the extremal digraphs for $k\ge \max\{2t+1,2\left\lceil \sqrt{2t+9/4}+1/2\right\rceil+3\}$ and $n$ is sufficiently large, which generalises the existing results. A conjecture is also presented.
Maximal perimeter and maximal width of a convex small polygon
A small polygon is a polygon of unit diameter. The maximal perimeter and the maximal width of a convex small polygon with $n=2^s$ sides are unknown when $s \ge 4$. In this paper, we propose an approach to construct convex small $n$-gons of large perimeter and large width when $n=2^s$ with $s\ge 2$. Assuming the existence of an axis of symmetry, a convex small $n$-gon is described as a composition of $n/2$ and both its perimeter and its width are given as functions of a single variable. By selecting the composition that minimizes the violation of a cycle constraint by a particular solution, the $n$-gons constructed outperform the best $n$-gons found in the literature. For example, for $n=64$, the perimeter and the width obtained are within $10^{-22}$ and $10^{-12}$ of the maximal perimeter and the maximal width, respectively. From our results, it appears that Mossinghoff's conjecture on the diameter graph of a convex small $2^s$-gon with maximal perimeter is not true when $s \ge 4$.

One way to study an hypergraph is to attach to it a tensor. Tensors are a generalization of matrices, and they are an efficient way to encode information in a compact form. In this paper we study how properties of weighted hypergraphs are reflected on eigenvalues and eigenvectors of their associated tensors. We also show how to efficiently compute eingenvalues with some techniques from numerical algebraic geometry.
Approximate and exact results for the harmonious chromatic number

Graph colorings is a fundamental topic in graph theory that require an assignment of labels (or colors) to vertices or edges subject to various constraints. We focus on the harmonious coloring of a graph, which is a proper vertex coloring such that for every two distinct colors i, j at most one pair of adjacent vertices are colored with i and j. This type of coloring is edge-distinguishing and has potential applications in transportation network, computer network, airway network system.
The results presented in this paper fall into two categories: in the first part of the paper we are concerned with the computational aspects of finding a minimum harmonious coloring and in the second part we determine the exact value of the harmonious chromatic number for some particular graphs and classes of graphs. More precisely, in the first part we show that finding a minimum harmonious coloring for arbitrary graphs is APX-hard, the natural greedy algorithm is a $Ω(\sqrt{n})$-approximation, and, moreover, we show a relationship between the vertex cover and the harmonious chromatic number. In the second part we determine the exact value of the harmonious chromatic number for all 3-regular planar graphs of diameter 3, some non-planar regular graphs and cycle-related graphs.

Recently, Gross, Mansour and Tucker introduced the partial-twuality polynomials. In this paper, we find that when there are enough parallel edges, any multiple graph is a negative answer to the problem 8.7 in their paper [European J. Combin. 95 (2021), 103329]: Is the restricted-orientable partial-Petrial polynomial of an arbitrary ribbon graph even-interpolating? In addition, we also find a counterexample to the conjecture 8.1 of Gross, Mansour and Tucker: If the partial-dual genus polynomial is neither an odd nor an even polynomial, then it is interpolating.

Inspired by a series of papers initiated in 2015 by Berthé et al., we introduce a new condition called suffix-connectedness. We show that the groups generated by the return sets of a uniformly recurrent suffix-connected language lie in a single conjugacy class of subgroups of the free group. Moreover, the rank of the subgroups in this conjugacy class only depends on the number of connected components in the extension graph of the empty word. We also show how to explicitly compute a representative of this conjugacy class using the first order Rauzy graph. Finally, we provide an example of suffix-connected, uniformly recurrent language that contains infinitely many disconnected words.
Perfect matchings, Hamiltonian cycles and edge-colourings in a class of cubic graphs

A graph $G$ has the Perfect-Matching-Hamiltonian property (PMH-property) if for each one of its perfect matchings, there is another perfect matching of $G$ such that the union of the two perfect matchings yields a Hamiltonian cycle of $G$. The study of graphs that have the PMH-property, initiated in the 1970s by Las Vergnas and Häggkvist, combines three well-studied properties of graphs, namely matchings, Hamiltonicity and edge-colourings. In this work, we study these concepts for cubic graphs in an attempt to characterise those cubic graphs for which every perfect matching corresponds to one of the colours of a proper 3-edge-colouring of the graph. We discuss that this is equivalent to saying that such graphs are even-2-factorable (E2F), that is, all 2-factors of the graph contain only even cycles. The case for bipartite cubic graphs is trivial, since if $G$ is bipartite then it is E2F. Thus, we restrict our attention to non-bipartite cubic graphs. A sufficient, but not necessary, condition for a cubic graph to be E2F is that it has the PMH-property. The aim of this work is to introduce an infinite family of E2F non-bipartite cubic graphs on two parameters, which we coin papillon graphs, and determine the values of the respective parameters for which these graphs have the PMH-property or are just E2F. We also show that no two papillon graphs with different parameters are isomorphic.

In this paper we define two Lie operations, and with that we define the bicharacter algebras, Nichols bicharacter algebras, quantum Nichols bicharacter algebras, etc. We obtain explicit bases for $\mathfrak L(V)${\tiny $_{R}$} and $\mathfrak L(V)${\tiny $_{L}$} over (i) the quantum linear space $V$ with $\dim V=2$; (ii) a connected braided vector $V$ of diagonal type with $\dim V=2$ and $p_{1,1}=p_{2,2}= -1$. We give the sufficient and necessary conditions for $\mathfrak L(V)${\tiny $_{R}$}$= \mathfrak L(V)$, $\mathfrak L(V)${\tiny $_{L}$}$= \mathfrak L(V)$, $\mathfrak B(V) = F\oplus \mathfrak L(V)${\tiny $_{R}$} and $\mathfrak B(V) = F\oplus \mathfrak L(V)${\tiny $_{L}$}, respectively. We show that if $\mathfrak B(V)$ is a connected Nichols algebra of diagonal type with $\dim V>1$, then $\mathfrak B(V)$ is finite-dimensional if and only if $\mathfrak L(V)${\tiny $_{L}$} is finite-dimensional if and only if $\mathfrak L(V)${\tiny $_{R}$} is finite-dimensional.
On cyclic algebraic-geometry codes
In this paper we initiate the study of cyclic algebraic geometry codes. We give conditions to construct cyclic algebraic geometry codes in the context of algebraic function fields over a finite field by using their group of automorphisms. We prove that cyclic algebraic geometry codes constructed in this way are closely related to cyclic extensions. We also give a detailed study of the monomial equivalence of cyclic algebraic geometry codes constructed with our method in the case of a rational function field.

The Tautological Lamination arises in holomorphic dynamics as a combinatorial model for the geometry of 1-dimensional slices of the Shift Locus. In each degree $q$ the tautological lamination defines an iterated sequence of partitions of $1$ (one for each integer $n$) into numbers of the form $2^m q^{-n}$. Denote by $N_q(n,m)$ the number of times $2^mq^{-n}$ arises in the $n$th partition. We prove a recursion formula for $N_q(n,0)$, and a gap theorem: $N_q(n,n)=1$ and $N_q(n,m)=0$ for $\lfloor n/2 \rfloor < m < n$.
Trees, forests, and total positivity: I. $q$-trees and $q$-forests matrices

We consider matrices with entries that are polynomials in $q$ arising from natural $q$-generalisations of two well-known formulas that count: forests on $n$ vertices with $k$ components; and trees on $n+1$ vertices where $k$ children of the root are smaller than the root. We give a combinatorial interpretation of the corresponding statistic on forests and trees and show, via the construction of various planar networks and the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot lemma, that these matrices are coefficientwise totally positive. We also exhibit generalisations of the entries of these matrices to polynomials in \emph{eight} indeterminates, and present some conjectures concerning the coefficientwise Hankel-total positivity of their row-generating polynomials.
On digraphs with polygonal restricted numerical range

In 2020, Cameron et al. introduced the restricted numerical range of a digraph (directed graph) as a tool for characterizing digraphs and studying their algebraic connectivity. In particular, digraphs with a restricted numerical range of a single point, a horizontal line segment, and a vertical line segment were characterized as $k$-imploding stars, directed joins of bidirectional digraphs, and regular tournaments, respectively. In this article, we extend these results by investigating digraphs whose restricted numerical range is a convex polygon in the complex plane. We provide computational methods for identifying these polygonal digraphs and show that these digraphs can be broken into three disjoint classes: normal, restricted-normal, and pseudo-normal digraphs, all of which are closed under the digraph complement. We prove sufficient conditions for normal digraphs and show that the directed join of two normal digraphs results in a restricted-normal digraph. Also, we prove that directed joins are the only restricted-normal digraphs when the order is square-free or twice a square-free number. Finally, we provide methods to construct restricted-normal digraphs that are not directed joins for all orders that are neither square-free nor twice a square-free number.
