Using an intrinsic $q$-hypergeometric strategy, we generalise Dwork-type congruences $H(p^{s+1})/H(p^s)\equiv H(p^s)/H(p^{s-1})\pmod{p^3}$ for $s=1,2,\dots$ and $p$ a prime, when $H(N)$ are truncated hypergeometric sums corresponding to the periods of rigid Calabi--Yau threefolds.
Broadcasting on Paths and Cycles

Consider the following broadcasting process run on a connected graph $G=(V,E)$. Suppose that $k \ge 2$ agents start on vertices selected from $V$ uniformly and independently at random. One of the agents has a message that she wants to communicate to the other agents. All agents perform independent random walks on $G$, with the message being passed when an agent that knows the message meets an agent that does not know the message. The broadcasting time $ξ(G,k)$ is the time it takes to spread the message to all agents. We provide tight bounds for $ξ(P_n,k)$ and $ξ(C_n,k)$ that hold asymptotically almost surely for the whole range of the parameter~$k$.

The Expected Number of Distinct Consecutive Patterns in a Random Permutation

Let $π_n$ be a uniformly chosen random permutation on $[n]$. Using an analysis of the probability that two overlapping consecutive $k$-permutations are order isomorphic, we show that the expected number of distinct consecutive patterns in $π_n$ is $\frac{n^2}{2}(1-o(1))$. This exhibits the fact that random permutations pack consecutive patterns near-perfectly.
Realizing an m-uniform four-chromatic hypergraph with disks
We prove that for every $m$ there is a finite point set $\mathcal{P}$ in the plane such that no matter how $\mathcal{P}$ is three-colored, there is always a disk containing exactly $m$ points, all of the same color. This improves a result of Pach, Tardos and Tóth who proved the same for two colors. The main ingredient of the construction is a subconstruction whose points are in convex position. Namely, we show that for every $m$ there is a finite point set $\mathcal{P}$ in the plane in convex position such that no matter how $\mathcal{P}$ is two-colored, there is always a disk containing exactly $m$ points, all of the same color. We also prove that for unit disks no similar construction can work, and several other results.
The Stable Limit DAHA and the Double Dyck Path Algebra

We study the compatibility of the action of the DAHA of type GL with two inverse systems of polynomial rings obtained from the standard Laurent polynomial representations. In both cases, the crucial analysis is that of the compatibility of the action of the Cherednik operators. Each case leads to a representation of a limit structure (the +/- stable limit DAHA) on a space of almost symmetric polynomials in infinitely many variables (the standard representation). As an application, we show that the defining representation of the double Dyck path algebra arises from the standard representation of the +stable limit DAHA.

Let $Φ= (V, \mathcal{C})$ be a constraint satisfaction problem on variables $v_1,\dots, v_n$ such that each constraint depends on at most $k$ variables and such that each variable assumes values in an alphabet of size at most $[q]$. Suppose that each constraint shares variables with at most $Δ$ constraints and that each constraint is violated with probability at most $p$ (under the product measure on its variables). We show that for $k, q = O(1)$, there is a deterministic, polynomial time algorithm to approximately count the number of satisfying assignments and a randomized, polynomial time algorithm to sample from approximately the uniform distribution on satisfying assignments, provided that \[C\cdot q^{3}\cdot k \cdot p \cdot Δ^{7} < 1, \quad \text{where }C \text{ is an absolute constant.}\] Previously, a result of this form was known essentially only in the special case when each constraint is violated by exactly one assignment to its variables.
For the special case of $k$-CNF formulas, the term $Δ^{7}$ improves the previously best known $Δ^{60}$ for deterministic algorithms [Moitra, J.ACM, 2019] and $Δ^{13}$ for randomized algorithms [Feng et al., arXiv, 2020]. For the special case of properly $q$-coloring $k$-uniform hypergraphs, the term $Δ^{7}$ improves the previously best known $Δ^{14}$ for deterministic algorithms [Guo et al., SICOMP, 2019] and $Δ^{9}$ for randomized algorithms [Feng et al., arXiv, 2020].
Tverberg's theorem, disks, and Hamiltonian cycles
For a finite set $S$ of points in the plane and a graph with vertices on $S$ consider the disks with diameters induced by the edges. We show that for any odd set $S$ there exists a Hamiltonian cycle for which these disks share a point, and for an even set $S$ there exists a Hamiltonian path with the same property. We discuss high-dimensional versions of these theorems and their relation to other results in discrete geometry.
Completing and extending shellings of vertex decomposable complexes

We say that a pure $d$-dimensional simplicial complex $Δ$ on $n$ vertices is \emph{shelling completable} if $Δ$ can be realized as the initial sequence of some shelling of $Δ_{n-1}^{(d)}$, the $d$-skeleton of the $(n-1)$-dimensional simplex. A well-known conjecture of Simon posits that any shellable complex is shelling completable. In this note we prove that vertex decomposable complexes are shelling completable. In fact we show that if $Δ$ is a vertex decomposable complex then there exists an ordering of its ground set $V$ such that adding the revlex smallest missing $(d+1)$-subset of $V$ results in a complex that is again vertex decomposable. We explore applications to matroids and shifted complexes, as well as connections to ridge-chordal complexes and $k$-decomposability. We also show that if $Δ$ is a $d$-dimensional complex on at most $d+3$ vertices then the notions of shellable, vertex decomposable, shelling completable, and extendably shellable are all equivalent.
Homotopies and transcendental extensions in colouring problems
We develop the technique of geometric realizations with algebraically independent (over the field of real algebraic numbers) coordinates of vertices and combine it with the oriented volume method inspired by work of McLennan and Tourky on the Sperner's lemma. This enables us to prove new results: the non-draw property of the generalized Y game, the theorem about triangulation of the product of two simplices, multilabeled Ky Fan' s lemma, and give new proofs of known results: the multilabeled version of Sperner's lemma and generalized Atanassov conjecture.
Fiedler vector analysis for particular cases of connected graphs
In this paper, some subclasses of block graphs are considered in order to analyze Fiedler vector of its members. Two families of block graphs with cliques of fixed size, the block-path and block-starlike graphs, are introduced. Cases A and B of classification for both families were considered, as well as the behavior of the algebraic connectivity for particular cases of block-path graphs.
Power Graphs of Finite Group
The Directed Power Graph of a group is a graph whose vertex set is the elements of the group, with an edge from $x$ to $y$ if $y$ is a power of $x$. The \textit{Power Graph} of a group can be obtained from the directed power graph by disorienting its edges. This article discusses properties of cliques, cycles, paths, and coloring in power graphs of finite groups. A construction of the longest directed path in power graphs of cyclic groups is given, along with some results on distance in power graphs. We discuss the cyclic subgroup graph of a group and show that it shares a remarkable number of properties with the power graph, including independence number, completeness, number of holes etc., with a few exceptions like planarity and Hamiltonian.
Characterization of saturated graphs related to pairs of disjoint matchings

We study the ratio, in a finite graph, of the sizes of the largest matching in any pair of disjoint matchings with the maximum total number of edges and the largest possible matching. Previously, it was shown that this ratio is between 4/5 and 1, and the class of graphs achieving 4/5 was completely characterized. In this paper, we first show that graph decompositions into paths and even cycles provide a new way to study this ratio. We then use this technique to characterize the graphs achieving ratio 1 among all graphs that can be covered by a certain choice of a maximum matching and maximum disjoint matchings.
Proof of the Kakeya set conjecture over rings of integers modulo square-free $N$

A Kakeya set $S \subset (\mathbb{Z}/N\mathbb{Z})^n$ is a set containing a line in each direction. We show that, when $N$ is any square-free integer, the size of the smallest Kakeya set in $(\mathbb{Z}/N\mathbb{Z})^n$ is at least $C_{n,ε} N^{n - ε}$ for any $ε$ -- resolving a special case of a conjecture of Hickman and Wright. Previously, such bounds were only known for the case of prime $N$. We also show that the case of general $N$ can be reduced to lower bounding the $\mathbb{F}_p$ rank of the incidence matrix of points and hyperplanes over $(\mathbb{Z}/p^k\mathbb{Z})^n$.
Tight Bounds for Potential Maximal Cliques Parameterized by Vertex Cover
We show that a graph with $n$ vertices and vertex cover of size $k$ has at most $4^k + n$ potential maximal cliques. We also show that for each positive integer $k$, there exists a graph with vertex cover of size $k$, $O(k^2)$ vertices, and $Ω(4^k)$ potential maximal cliques. Our results extend the results of Fomin, Liedloff, Montealegre, and Todinca [Algorithmica, 80(4):1146--1169, 2018], who proved an upper bound of $poly(n) 4^k$, but left the lower bound as an open problem.
New lower bounds for weak Schur partitions

This paper records some apparently new results for the partition of integer intervals [1, n] into weakly sum-free subsets. These were produced using a method closely related to that used by Schur in 1917. New lower bounds can be produced in this way for partitions of unlimited size. The asymptotic growth rate of the lower bounds, as the number of subsets increases, cannot be less than the same growth rate for strongly sum-free partitions, and therefore exceeds 3.27. Specific results for partitions into a 'small' number of subsets include $WS(6) \ge 642$, $WS(7) \ge 2146$, $WS(8) \ge 6976$, $WS(9) \ge 21848$, and $WS(10) \ge 70778$.
A combinatorial bijection on di-sk trees

A di-sk tree is a rooted binary tree whose nodes are labeled by $\oplus$ or $\ominus$, and no node has the same label as its right child. The di-sk trees are in natural bijection with separable permutations. We construct a combinatorial bijection on di-sk trees proving the two quintuples $(\LMAX,\LMIN,\DESB,\iar,\comp)$ and $(\LMAX,\LMIN,\DESB,\comp,\iar)$ have the same distribution over separable permutations. Here for a permutation $π$, $\LMAX(π)/\LMIN(π)$ is the set of values of the left-to-right maxima/minima of $π$ and $\DESB(π)$ is the set of descent bottoms of $π$, while $\comp(π)$ and $\iar(π)$ are respectively the number of components of $π$ and the length of initial ascending run of $π$.
Interestingly, our bijection specializes to a bijection on $312$-avoiding permutations, which provides (up to the classical {\em Knuth--Richards bijection}) an alternative approach to a result of Rubey (2016) that asserts the two triples $(\LMAX,\iar,\comp)$ and $(\LMAX,\comp,\iar)$ are equidistributed on $321$-avoiding permutations. Rubey's result is a symmetric extension of an equidistribution due to Adin--Bagno--Roichman, which implies the class of $321$-avoiding permutations with a prescribed number of components is Schur positive.
Some equidistribution results for various statistics concerning tree traversal are presented in the end.
The Connected Domination Number of Grids

Closed form expressions for the domination number of an $n \times m$ grid have attracted significant attention, and an exact expression has been obtained in 2011 by Gonçalves et al. In this paper, we present our results on obtaining new lower bounds on the connected domination number of an $n \times m$ grid. The problem has been solved for grids with up to $4$ rows and with $6$ rows by Tolouse et al and the best currently known lower bound for arbitrary $m,n$ is $\lceil\frac{mn}{3}\rceil$. Fujie came up with a general construction for a connected dominating set of an $n \times m$ grid of size $\min \left\{2n+(m-4)+\lfloor\frac{m-4}{3}\rfloor(n-2), 2m+(n-4)+\lfloor\frac{n-4}{3}\rfloor(m-2) \right\}$ . In this paper, we investigate whether this construction is indeed optimum. We prove a new lower bound of $\left\lceil\frac{mn+2\lceil\frac{\min \{m,n\}}{3}\rceil}{3} \right\rceil$ for arbitrary $m,n \geq 4$.
Asymptotic Behaviour of the Containment of Certain Mesh Patterns

We present some results on the proportion of permutations of length $n$ containing certain mesh patterns as $n$ grows large, and give exact enumeration results in some cases. In particular, we focus on mesh patterns where entire rows and columns are shaded. We prove some general results which apply to mesh patterns of any length, and then consider mesh patterns of length four. An important consequence of these results is to show that the proportion of permutations containing a mesh pattern can take a wide range of values between $0$ and $1$.

We study the stochastic colored six vertex (SC6V) model and its fusion. Our main result is an integral expression for natural observables of this model -- joint q-moments of height functions. This generalises a recent result of Borodin-Wheeler. The key technical ingredient is a new relation of height functions of SC6V model in neighboring points. This relation is of independent interest; we refer to it as a local relation. As applications, we give a new proof of certain symmetries of height functions of SC6V model recently established by Borodin-Gorin-Wheeler and Galashin, and new formulas for joint moments of delayed partition functions of Beta polymer.
