Counting 3-way contingency tables via quiver semi-invariants
Let $\mathbf{T}_{\mathbf{a},\mathbf{b}}$ be the number of $3$-way contingency tables of size $m \times n \times p$ with two of its three plane-sum margins fixed by $\mathbf{a}=(a_1, \ldots, a_m) \in \mathbb{N}^m$ and $\mathbf{b}=(b_1, \ldots, b_n) \in \mathbb{N}^n$. When $p=1$, this is the number of $m \times n$ non-negative integer matrices whose row and column sums are fixed by $\mathbf{a}$ and $\mathbf{b}$. In this paper, we study the numbers $\mathbf{T}_{\mathbf{a},\mathbf{b}}$ through the lens of quiver invariant theory. Let $\mathcal{Q}^{p}_{m,n}$ be the $p$-complete bipartite quiver with $m$ source vertices, $n$ sink vertices, and $p$ arrows from each source to each sink. Let $\mathbf{1}$ denote the dimension vector of $\mathcal{Q}^{p}_{m,n}$ that takes value $1$ at every vertex of $\mathcal{Q}^{p}_{m,n}$, and let $θ_{\mathbf{a}, \mathbf{b}}$ denote the integral weight that assigns $a_i$ to the $i^{th}$ source vertex and $-b_j$ to the $j^{th}$ sink vertex of $\mathcal{Q}^{p}_{m,n}$. We begin by realizing $\mathbf{T}_{\mathbf{a},\mathbf{b}}$ as the dimension of the space of semi-invariants associated to $(\mathcal{Q}^{p}_{m,n}, \mathbf{1}, θ_{\mathbf{a}, \mathbf{b}})$. Using this connection and methods from quiver invariant theory, we show that $\mathbf{T}_{\mathbf{a},\mathbf{b}}$ is a parabolic Kostka coefficient. In the case $p=1$, this recovers the formula for the number of the $m \times n$ contingency tables with row and column sums fixed by $\mathbf{a}$ and $\mathbf{b}$, which in the classical $2$-way setting can also be obtained via the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence.

Hive-type polytopes for quiver multiplicities and the membership problem for quiver moment cones
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $Q$ be a bipartite quiver with vertex set $Q_0$ such that the number of arrows between any source vertex and any sink vertex is constant. Let $β=(β(x))_{x \in Q_0}$ be a dimension vector of $Q$ with positive integer coordinates. Let $rep(Q, β)$ be the representation space of $β$-dimensional representations of $Q$ and $GL(β)$ the base change group acting on $rep(Q, β)$ be simultaneous conjugation. Let $K^β_{\underlineλ}$ be the multiplicity of the irreducible representation of $GL(β)$ of highest weight $\underlineλ$ in the ring of polynomial functions on $rep(Q, β)$. We show that $K^β_{\underlineλ}$ can be expressed as the number of lattice points of a polytope obtained by gluing together two Knutson-Tao hive polytopes. Furthermore, this polytopal description together with Derksen-Weyman's Saturation Theorem for quiver semi-invariants allows us to use Tardos' algorithm to solve the membership problem for the moment cone associated to $(Q,β)$ in strongly polynomial time.

Cluster fans, stability conditions, and domains of semi-invariants
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show that the cone of finite stability conditions of a quiver Q without oriented cycles has a fan covering given by (the dual of) the cluster fan of Q. Along the way, we give new proofs of Schofield's results on perpendicular categories. We also study domains of semi-invariants of quivers via quiver exceptional sequences. In particular, we recover Igusa-Orr-Todorov-Weyman's theorem on cluster complexes and domains of semi-invariants for Dynkin quivers.

Quivers, long exact sequences and Horn type inequalities
Published • View PublicationBIB
We give necessary and sufficient inequalities for the existence of long exact sequences of m finite abelian p-groups with fixed isomorphy types. This problem is related to some generalized Littlewood-Richardson coefficients that we define in this paper. We also show how this problem is related to eigenvalues of Hermitian matrices satisfying certain (in)equalities. When m=3, we recover the Horn type inequalities that solve the saturation conjecture for Littlewood-Richardson coefficients and Horn's conjecture.
