Reddening sequences and mutation of infinite quivers
Cluster algebras, introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky through the process of quiver mutation, have become central objects in modern algebra and geometry, linking combinatorial constructions with diverse mathematical domains such as Teichmuller theory, total positivity, and even theoretical physics. Building on foundational work by Fomin, Shapiro, and Thurston connecting cluster algebras to triangulated surfaces, recent research has extended mutation theory to infinite settings, including the infinity-gon and more general marked surfaces. In this paper, we develop a purely combinatorial framework for mutation of infinite quivers, independent of but compatible with these topological constructions. By formalizing infinite quivers as limits of embedded finite quivers, we establish a consistent definition of mutation that generalizes prior surface-based results. We then apply this framework to extend the notion of reddening sequences, special mutation sequences with significant algebraic consequences, from the finite to the infinite setting. Our approach not only unifies previous topological and combinatorial perspectives but also provides a technical foundation for further generalizations of cluster algebra theory in the infinite case.

Red sizes of quivers

In this article, we will expand on the notions of maximal green and reddening sequences for quivers associated to cluster algebras. The existence of these sequences has been studied for a variety of applications related to Fomin and Zelevinsky's cluster algebras. Ahmad and Li considered a numerical measure of how close a quiver is to admitting a maximal green sequence called a red number. In this paper we generalized this notion to what we call unrestricted red numbers which are related to reddening sequences. In addition to establishing this more general framework we completely determine the red numbers and unrestricted red numbers for all finite mutation type quivers. Furthermore, we give conjectures on the possible values of red numbers and unrestricted red numbers in general.
Building maximal green sequences via component preserving mutations
Published in Ars Math. Contemp. 19 (2020), no. 2, 249--275 • View PublicationBIB
We introduce a new method for producing both maximal green and reddening sequences of quivers. The method, called component preserving mutations, generalizes the notion of direct sums of quivers and can be used as a tool to both recover known reddening sequences as well as find reddening sequences that were previously unknown. We use the method to produce and recover maximal green sequences for many bipartite recurrent quivers that show up in the study of periodicity of $T$-systems and $Y$-systems. Additionally, we show how our method relates to the dominance phenomenon recently considered by Reading. Given a maximal green sequence produced by our method, this relation to dominance gives a maximal green sequence for infinitely many other quivers. Other applications of this new methodology are explored including computing of quantum dilogarithm identities and determining minimal length maximal green sequences.
Matroid-minor Hopf algebra: a cancellation-free antipode formula and other applications of sign-reversing involutions
In this paper, we give a cancellation-free antipode formula for the matroid-minor Hopf algebra. We then explore applications of this formula. For example, the cancellation-free formula expresses the antipode of uniform matroids as a sum over certain ordered set partitions. We also prove that all matroids over any hyperfield (in the sense of Baker and Bowler) have cancellation-free antipode formulas; furthermore, the cancellations in the antipode are independent of the hyperfield structure and only depend on the underlying matroid.

Reddening Sequences for Banff Quivers and the Class $\mathcal{P}$
Published in SIGMA 16 (2020), 049, 11 pages • View PublicationBIB
We show that a reddening sequence exists for any quiver which is Banff. Our proof is combinatorial and relies on the triangular extension construction for quivers. The other facts needed are that the existence of a reddening sequence is mutation invariant and passes to induced subquivers. Banff quivers define locally acyclic cluster algebras which are known to coincide with their upper cluster algebras. The existence of reddening sequences for these quivers is consistent with a conjectural relationship between the existence of a reddening sequence and a cluster algebra's equality with its upper cluster algebra. Our result completes a verification of the conjecture for Banff quivers. We also prove that a certain subclass of quivers within the class $\mathcal{P}$ define locally acyclic cluster algebras.

A cancellation-free antipode formula (for uniform matroids) for the restriction-contraction matroid Hopf algebra
In this paper, we give a cancellation-free antipode formula (for uniform matroids) for the restriction-contraction matroid Hopf algebra, using the technique of splitting and merging via a sign-reversing involution. The cancellation-free formula expresses the antipode of uniform matroids as a sum over certain ordered set partitions.

Recovering the topology of surfaces from cluster algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
We present an effective method for recovering the topology of a bordered oriented surface with marked points from its cluster algebra. The information is extracted from the maximal triangulations of the surface, those that have exchange quivers with maximal number of arrows in the mutation class. The method gives new proofs of the automorphism and isomorphism problems for the surface cluster algebras, as well as the uniqueness of the Fomin-Shapiro-Thurston block decompositions of the exchange quivers of the surface cluster algebras. The previous proofs of these results followed a different approach based on Gu's direct proof of the last result. The method also explains the exceptions to these results due to pathological problems with the maximal triangulations of several surfaces.

Maximal Green Sequences for Cluster Algebras Associated to the Orientable Surfaces of Genus n with Arbitrary Punctures
Published • View PublicationBIB
It is well known that any triangulation of a marked surface produces a quiver. In this paper we will provide a triangulation for orientable surfaces of genus $n$ with an arbitrary number interior marked points (called punctures) whose corresponding quiver has a maximal green sequence.

Maximal Green Sequences for Cluster Algebras Associated to the n-Torus
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a marked surface (S,M) we can add arcs to the surface to create a triangulation, T, of that surface. For each triangulation, T, we can associate a cluster algebra. In this paper we will consider the torus of genus n with two interior marked points (called punctures). We will construct a specific triangulation of this surface which yeilds a specific quiver. Then in the sense of work by Keller we will produce a maximal green sequence for this quiver.
