The Loopy Polynomial: from Tutte's Universal $V$-Function to Bizonotopal Geometry
We study the loopy polynomial L_G, a multivariate graph invariant arising from bizonotopal graph algebras and defined by a deletion-loopy-contraction recursion, in which the contracted edge becomes a loop. We show that L_G contains the Tutte polynomial and admits a similar spanning-forest activity expansion. It also determines Stanley's chromatic symmetric function, the degree sequence, the induced edge count profile, and the independence polynomial for loopless graphs, and the clique and matching polynomials for simple graphs. Separating the size and the external activity of each forest component leads to a refined loopy polynomial, which we show to be equivalent to the extended U-polynomial of Noble and Welsh and to the extended polychromate. Different specializations of this common refinement give the ordinary U-polynomial, Tutte's universal V-function, and Stanley's Tutte symmetric function, placing these invariants into a single framework. We conjecture that L_G and the U-polynomial have the same distinguishing power on simple graphs, and verify this for all graphs on at most 11 vertices. Simplicity is essential: we found two loopless multigraphs with equal U-polynomials but distinct loopy polynomials. They also have distinct extended U-polynomials, so the ordinary U-polynomial does not determine the extended one on loopless multigraphs. This solves an open problem by Merino and Noble. For the score polytope P_G of the external bizonotopal algebra, loopy deletion-contraction lifts from the lattice-point enumerator to the polytope itself. This gives forest-indexed geometric parking complexes whose lattice points partition those of P_G, and which are piecewise-linearly parametrized by products of intervals whose lengths are the component weights in the forest expansion of L_G.

Hypercube subgroups of (outer) reduced Weyl groups of the Cuntz algebras
We develop some tools, of an algebraic and combinatorial nature, which enable us to obtain a detailed description of certain quadratic subgroups of the (outer) reduced Weyl group of the Cuntz algebra ${\mathcal O}_n$. In particular, for $n=4$ our findings give a self-contained theoretical interpretation of the groups tabulated in [AJS18], which were obtained with the help of a computer. For each of these groups we provide a set of generators. A prominent role in our analysis is played by a certain family of subgroups of the symmetric group of a discrete square which we call bicompatible.
Bizonotopal Graphical Algebras
Zonotopal algebras (external, central, and internal) of an undirected graph G introduced by Postnikov-Shapiro and Holtz-Ron, are finite-dimensional commutative graded algebras whose Hilbert series contain a wealth of combinatorial information about G. In this paper, we associate to G a new family of algebras, which we call bizonotopal, because their definition involves doubling the set of edges of G. These algebras are monomial and have intricate properties related, among other things, to the combinatorics of graphical parking functions and their polytopes. Unlike the case of usual zonotopal algebras, the Hilbert series of bizonotopal algebras are not specializations of the Tutte polynomial of G. Still, we show that in the external and central cases these Hilbert series satisfy a modified deletion-contraction relation. In addition, we prove that the external bizonotopal algebra is a complete graph invariant.
Repeatable patterns and the maximum multiplicity of a generator in a reduced word
Published in Combinatorial Theory, Volume 4, Number 2 (2024) • View PublicationBIB
We study the maximum multiplicity $\mathcal{M}(k,n)$ of a simple transposition $s_k=(k \: k+1)$ in a reduced word for the longest permutation $w_0=n \: n-1 \: \cdots \: 2 \: 1$, a problem closely related to much previous work on sorting networks and on the "$k$-set" problem. After reinterpreting the problem in terms of monotone weakly separated paths, we show that, for fixed $k$ and sufficiently large $n$, the optimal density is realized by paths which are periodic in a precise sense, so that \[ \mathcal{M}(k,n)=c_k n + p_k(n) \] for a periodic function $p_k$ and constant $c_k$. In fact we show that $c_k$ is always rational, and compute several bounds and exact values for this quantity with "repeatable patterns", which we introduce.

Differential operators on Schur and Schubert polynomials
This paper deals with decreasing operators on back stable Schubert polynomials. We study two operators $ξ$ and $\nabla$ of degree $-1$, which satisfy the Leibniz rule. Furthermore, we show that all other such operators are linear combinations of $ξ$ and $\nabla$. For the case of Schur functions, these two operators fully determine the product of Schur functions, i.e., it is possible to define the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients only from $ξ$ and $\nabla$. This new point of view on Schur functions gives us an elementary proof of the Giambelli identity and of Jacobi-Trudi identities. For the case of Schubert polynomials, we construct a bigger class of decreasing operators as expressions in terms of $ξ$ and $\nabla$, which are indexed by Young diagrams. Surprisingly, these operators are related to Stanley symmetric functions. In particular, we extend bosonic operators from Schur to Schubert polynomials.

Classification of external Zonotopal algebras
In this paper we work with power algebras associated to hyperplane arrangements. There are three main types of these algebras, namely, external, central, and internal zonotopal algebras. We classify all external algebras up to isomorphism in terms of zonotopes. Also, we prove that unimodular external zonotopal algebras are in one to one correspondence with regular matroids. For the case of central algebras we formulate a conjecture.
On ideals generated by two generic quadratic forms in the exterior algebra
Published in J. Pure Appl. Alg. 223 (2019), no. 12, 5067--5082 • Search Publication
Based on the structure theory of pairs of skew-symmetric matrices, we give a conjecture for the Hilbert series of the exterior algebra modulo the ideal generated by two generic quadratic forms. We show that the conjectured series is an upper bound in the coefficient-wise sense, and we determine a majority of the coefficients. We also conjecture that the series is equal to the series of the squarefree polynomial ring modulo the ideal generated by the squares of two generic linear forms.
Trianguloids and Triangulations of Root Polytopes
Published • View PublicationBIB
Triangulations of a product of two simplices and, more generally, of root polytopes are closely related to Gelfand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky's theory of discriminants, to tropical geometry, tropical oriented matroids, and to generalized permutohedra. We introduce a new approach to these objects, identifying a triangulation of a root polytope with a certain bijection between lattice points of two generalized permutohedra. In order to study such bijections, we define trianguloids as edge-colored graphs satisfying simple local axioms. We prove that trianguloids are in bijection with triangulations of root polytopes.

On $Q$-deformations of Postnikov-Shapiro algebras
For any given loopless graph $G$, we introduce $Q$ - deformations of its Postnikov-Shapiro algebras counting spanning trees, counting spanning forests and $Q$ - deformations of internal algebra of $G$. We determine the total dimension of the algebras; our proof also gives a new proof of the formula for the total dimensions of the usual Postnikov-Shapiro algebras. Furthermore, we construct "square-free" definition of usual internal algebra of $G$.

Postnikov-Shapiro Algebras, Graphical Matroids and their generalizations
In this paper we consider the original and different generalizations of Postnikov-Shapiro algebra which enumerate forests and trees of graphs, see~\cite{PSh}. Our main result is that the algebra counting forests depends only on graphical matroid and converse. Also we generalize algebras for a hypergraph. For this, we define spanning forests and trees of a hypergraph and the corresponding "hypergraphical" matroid. We present $3$ different equivalent definitions of spanning forests and trees, which can be read independently from other parts of the paper.

On commutative algebra associated to $t$-labeled subforests of a graph
For a given graph $G$, we construct an associated commutative algebra, whose dimension is equal to the number of $t$-labeled forests of $G$. We show that the dimension of the $k$-th graded component of this algebra also has a combinatorial meaning and that its Hilbert polynomial can be expressed through the Tutte polynomial of $G$.

Counting the minimal number of inflections of a plane curve
Given a plane curve $γ: S^1\to \mathbb R^2$, we consider the problem of determining the minimal number $I(γ)$ of inflections which curves $\mbox{diff}(γ)$ may have, where $\mbox{diff}$ runs over the group of diffeomorphisms of $\mathbb R^2$. We show that if $γ$ is an immersed curve with $D(γ)$ double points and no other singularities, then $I(γ)\leq 2D(γ)$. In fact, we prove the latter result for the so-called plane doodles which are finite collections of closed immersed plane curves whose only singularities are double points.

A short proof of Kotzig's theorem
A new shortest proof of Kotzig's Theorem about graphs with unique perfect matching is presented in this paper. It is well known that Kotzig's theorem is a consequence of Yeo's Theorem about edge-colored graph without alternating cycle. We present a proof of Yeo's Theorem based on the same ideas as our proof of Kotzig's theorem.
