Ramsey Numbers in Kneser Graphs
We define the $r\textit{-Kneser Ramsey number}$ $R^{\textrm{KG}}_{r}(s, t)$ as the minimum integer $n$ such that every red/blue edge-coloring of the Kneser graph $\textrm{KG}(n,r)$ contains a red $s$-clique or a blue $t$-clique. We obtain general bounds on the numbers $R^{\textrm{KG}}_{r}(s, t)$, and make progress on two related Ramsey-type problems, one raised by Holmsen, Hrusak, and Roldán-Pensado, and the other posted by Pálvölgyi.
A topological product Tverberg Theorem
We prove a generalization of the topological Tverberg theorem. One special instance of our general theorem is the following: Let $Δ$ denote the 8-dimensional simplex viewed as an abstract simplicial complex, and suppose that its vertices are arranged in a $3\times 3$ array. Then for any continuous map $f:Δ\to \mathbb{R}^3$ it is possible to partition the rows or the columns of the vertex array into two parts, such that the disjoint faces $σ$ and $τ$ induced by the two parts satisfy $f(σ)\cap f(τ) \neq \emptyset$. Our result also has consequences for geometric transversals and topological Helly.
Chip games and multipartite graph paintability
We study the paintability, an on-line version of choosability, of complete multipartite graphs. We do this by considering an equivalent chip game introduced by Duraj, Gutowski, and Kozik. We consider complete multipartite graphs with $ n $ parts of size at most 3. Using a computational approach, we establish upper bounds on the paintability of such graphs for small values of $ n. $ The choosability of complete multipartite graphs is closely related to value $ p(n, m) $, the minimum number of edges in a $n$-uniform hypergraph with no panchromatic $m$-coloring. We consider an online variant of this parameter $ p_{OL}(n, m), $ introduced by Khuzieva et al. using a symmetric chip game. With this symmetric chip game, we find an improved upper bound for $ p_{OL}(n, m)$ when $m \geq 3$ and $n$ is large. Our method also implies a lower bound on the paintability of complete multipartite graphs with $m \geq 3$ parts of equal size.
Online Ramsey numbers of ordered graphs
The online ordered Ramsey game is played between two players, Builder and Painter, on an infinite sequence of vertices with ordered graphs $(G_1,G_2)$, which have linear orderings on their vertices. On each turn, Builder first selects an edge before Painter colors it red or blue. Builder's objective is to construct either an ordered red copy of $G_1$ or an ordered blue copy of $G_2$, while Painter's objective is to delay this for as many turns as possible. The online ordered Ramsey number $r_o(G_1,G_2)$ is the number of turns Builder takes to win in the case that both players play optimally. Few lower bounds are known for this quantity. In this paper, we introduce a succinct proof of a new lower bound based on the maximum left- and right-degrees in the ordered graphs. We also upper bound $r_o(G_1,G_2)$ in two cases: when $G_1$ is a cycle and $G_2$ a complete bipartite graph, and when $G_1$ is a tree and $G_2$ a clique.

A hypergraph analog of Dirac's Theorem for long cycles in 2-connected graphs, II: Large uniformities
Dirac proved that each $n$-vertex $2$-connected graph with minimum degree $k$ contains a cycle of length at least $\min\{2k, n\}$. We obtain analogous results for Berge cycles in hypergraphs. Recently, the authors proved an exact lower bound on the minimum degree ensuring a Berge cycle of length at least $\min\{2k, n\}$ in $n$-vertex $r$-uniform $2$-connected hypergraphs when $k \geq r+2$. In this paper we address the case $k \leq r+1$ in which the bounds have a different behavior. We prove that each $n$-vertex $r$-uniform $2$-connected hypergraph $H$ with minimum degree $k$ contains a Berge cycle of length at least $\min\{2k,n,|E(H)|\}$. If $|E(H)|\geq n$, this bound coincides with the bound of the Dirac's Theorem for 2-connected graphs.

A hypergraph analog of Dirac's Theorem for long cycles in 2-connected graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Dirac proved that each $n$-vertex $2$-connected graph with minimum degree at least $k$ contains a cycle of length at least $\min\{2k, n\}$. We consider a hypergraph version of this result. A Berge cycle in a hypergraph is an alternating sequence of distinct vertices and edges $v_1,e_2,v_2, \ldots, e_c, v_1$ such that $\{v_i,v_{i+1}\} \subseteq e_i$ for all $i$ (with indices taken modulo $c$). We prove that for $n \geq k \geq r+2 \geq 5$, every $2$-connected $r$-uniform $n$-vertex hypergraph with minimum degree at least ${k-1 \choose r-1} + 1$ has a Berge cycle of length at least $\min\{2k, n\}$. The bound is exact for all $k\geq r+2\geq 5$.

On a property of $2$-connected graphs and Dirac's Theorem

We refine a property of $2$-connected graphs described in the classical paper of Dirac from 1952 and use the refined property to somewhat shorten Dirac's proof of the fact that each $2$-connected $n$-vertex graph with minimum degree at least $k$ has a cycle of length at least $\min\{n,2k\}$.

Minimum degree ensuring that a hypergraph is hamiltonian-connected
Published • View PublicationBIB
A hypergraph $H$ is hamiltonian-connected if for any distinct vertices $x$ and $y$, $H$ contains a hamiltonian Berge path from $x$ to $y$. We find for all $3\leq r<n$, exact lower bounds on minimum degree $δ(n,r)$ of an $n$-vertex $r$-uniform hypergraph $H$ guaranteeing that $H$ is hamiltonian-connected. It turns out that for $3\leq n/2<r<n$, $δ(n,r)$ is 1 less than the degree bound guaranteeing the existence of a hamiltonian Berge cycle. Moreover, unlike for graphs, for each $r \geq 3$ there exists an $r$-uniform hypergraph that is hamiltonian-connected but does not contain a hamiltonian Berge cycle.

Ramsey-Turán Problems with small independence numbers
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a graph $H$ and a function $f(n)$, the Ramsey-Turán number $RT(n,H,f(n))$ is the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex $H$-free graph with independence number at most $f(n)$. For $H$ being a small clique, many results about $RT(n,H,f(n))$ are known and we focus our attention on $H=K_s$ for $s\leq 13$. By applying Szemerédi's Regularity Lemma, the dependent random choice method and some weighted Turán-type results, we prove that these cliques have the so-called phase transitions when $f(n)$ is around the inverse function of the off-diagonal Ramsey number of $K_r$ versus a large clique $K_n$ for some $r\leq s$.

Dirac's Theorem for hamiltonian Berge cycles in uniform hypergraphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The famous Dirac's Theorem gives an exact bound on the minimum degree of an $n$-vertex graph guaranteeing the existence of a hamiltonian cycle. We prove exact bounds of similar type for hamiltonian Berge cycles in $r$-uniform, $n$-vertex hypergraphs for all $3\leq r< n$. The bounds are different for $r<n/2$ and $r\geq n/2$. We also give bounds on the minimum degree guaranteeing existence of Berge cycles of length at least $k$ in such hypergraphs; the bounds are exact for all $k\geq n/2$.
Linear Bounds for Cycle-free Saturation Games
Published in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 29(3), 5:1-5:21, 2022 • View PublicationBIB
Given a family of graphs $\mathcal{F}$, we define the $\mathcal{F}$-saturation game as follows. Two players alternate adding edges to an initially empty graph on $n$ vertices, with the only constraint being that neither player can add an edge that creates a subgraph in $\mathcal{F}$. The game ends when no more edges can be added to the graph. One of the players wishes to end the game as quickly as possible, while the other wishes to prolong the game. We let $\textrm{sat}_g(n,\mathcal{F})$ denote the number of edges that are in the final graph when both players play optimally. In general there are very few non-trivial bounds on the order of magnitude of $\textrm{sat}_g(n,\mathcal{F})$. In this work, we find collections of infinite families of cycles $\mathcal{C}$ such that $\textrm{sat}_g(n,\mathcal{C})$ has linear growth rate.
Low Diameter Monochromatic Covers of Complete Multipartite Graphs

Let the diameter cover number, $D^t_r(G)$, denote the least integer $d$ such that under any $r$-coloring of the edges of the graph $G$, there exists a collection of $t$ monochromatic subgraphs of diameter at most $d$ such that every vertex of $G$ is contained in at least one of the subgraphs. We explore the diameter cover number with two colors and two subgraphs when $G$ is a complete multipartite graph with at least three parts. We determine exactly the value of $D_2^2(G)$ for all complete tripartite graphs $G$, and almost all complete multipartite graphs with more than three parts.
On sizes of 1-cross intersecting set pair systems

Let $\{(A_i,B_i)\}_{i=1}^m$ be a set pair system. Füredi, Gyárfás and Király called it {\em $1$-cross intersecting} if $|A_i\cap B_j|$ is $1$ when $i\neq j$ and $0$ if $i=j$. They studied such systems and their generalizations, and in particular considered $m(a,b,1)$ -- the maximum size of a $1$-cross intersecting set pair system in which $|A_i|\leq a$ and $|B_i|\leq b$ for all $i$. Füredi, Gyárfás and Király proved that $m(n,n,1)\geq 5^{(n-1)/2}$ and asked whether there are upper bounds on $m(n,n,1)$ significantly better than the classical bound ${2n\choose n}$ of Bollob\' as for cross intersecting set pair systems. Answering one of their questions, Holzman recently proved that if $a,b\geq 2$, then $m(a,b,1)\leq \frac{29}{30}\binom{a+b}{a}$. He also conjectured that the factor $\frac{29}{30}$ in his bound can be replaced by $\frac{5}{6}$. The goal of this paper is to prove this bound.
Generalizations and strengthenings of Ryser's conjecture
Published • View PublicationBIB
Ryser's conjecture says that for every $r$-partite hypergraph $H$ with matching number $ν(H)$, the vertex cover number is at most $(r-1)ν(H)$. This far reaching generalization of König's theorem is only known to be true for $r\leq 3$, or $ν(G)=1$ and $r\leq 5$. An equivalent formulation of Ryser's conjecture is that in every $r$-edge coloring of a graph $G$ with independence number $α(G)$, there exists at most $(r-1)α(G)$ monochromatic connected subgraphs which cover the vertex set of $G$. We make the case that this latter formulation of Ryser's conjecture naturally leads to a variety of stronger conjectures and generalizations to hypergraphs and multipartite graphs. Regarding these generalizations and strengthenings, we survey the known results, improving upon some, and we introduce a collection of new problems and results.
