An 18-colour bound for locally irregular decompositions
A graph is locally irregular if adjacent vertices have distinct degrees. A graph G is decomposable if its edge set can be decomposed into locally irregular graphs, and its locally irregular chromatic index lir(G) is the least number of graphs in such a decomposition. We prove that lir(G) <= 18 for every decomposable graph G, improving the previous bound of 220.
Monochromatic cycle partitions in 3-mean edge-colourings
Given $r \in \mathbb{N}$ and an edge-coloured complete graph such that the average number of colours incident with a vertex is at most $r$, Conlon and Stein asked whether there is a vertex partition into a bounded number of monochromatic cycles, and proved this for $r=2$. We settle the first open case by proving the corresponding statement for $r=3$.
Separating path systems for cubic graphs and for complete bipartite graphs
A strongly separating path system in a graph $G$ is a collection $\mathcal{P}$ of paths in $G$ such that, for every two edges $e$ and $f$ of $G$, there is a paths in $\mathcal{P}$ with $e$ and not $f$, and vice-versa. The minimum number of such a system is the so called strong separation number of $G$. We prove that the strong separation number of every $2$-degenerate graph on $n$ vertices is at most $n$. Using this, we also provide upper bounds for the strong separation number of subcubic graphs, planar graphs, and planar bipartite graphs. On the other hand, we prove that the strong separation number a complete bipartite graph $K_{a,b}$ is at least $b$ if $a<b/2$ and at least $(\sqrt{6(b/2)+4}-2)a$ if $b/2\leq a\leq b$, and we provide a construction that attains the former bound.

We prove that in any $n$-vertex complete graph there is a collection $\mathcal{P}$ of $(1 + o(1))n$ paths that strongly separates any pair of distinct edges $e, f$, meaning that there is a path in $\mathcal{P}$ which contains $e$ but not $f$. Furthermore, for certain classes of $n$-vertex $αn$-regular graphs we find a collection of $(\sqrt{3 α+ 1} - 1 + o(1))n$ paths that strongly separates any pair of edges. Both results are best-possible up to the $o(1)$ term.

We investigate the threshold $p_{\vec H}=p_{\vec H}(n)$ for the Ramsey-type property $G(n,p)\to \vec H$, where $G(n,p)$ is the binomial random graph and $G\to\vec H$ indicates that every orientation of the graph $G$ contains the oriented graph $\vec H$ as a subdigraph. Similarly to the classical Ramsey setting, the upper bound $p_{\vec H}\leq Cn^{-1/m_2(\vec H)}$ is known to hold for some constant $C=C(\vec H)$, where $m_2(\vec H)$ denotes the maximum $2$-density of the underlying graph $H$ of $\vec H$. While this upper bound is indeed the threshold for some $\vec H$, this is not always the case. We obtain examples arising from rooted products of orientations of sparse graphs (such as forests, cycles and, more generally, subcubic $\{K_3,K_{3,3}\}$-free graphs) and arbitrarily rooted transitive triangles.

For every $k \geq 3$, we determine the order of growth, up to polylogarithmic factors, of the number of orientations of the binomial random graph containing no directed cycle of length $k$. This solves a conjecture of Kohayakawa, Morris and the last two authors.
The threshold for the constrained Ramsey property
Given graphs $G$, $H_1$, and $H_2$, let $G\xrightarrow{\text{mr}}(H_1,H_2)$ denote the property that in every edge colouring of $G$ there is a monochromatic copy of $H_1$ or a rainbow copy of $H_2$. The constrained Ramsey number, defined as the minimum $n$ such that $K_n\xrightarrow{\text{mr}}(H_1,H_2)$, exists if and only if $H_1$ is a star or $H_2$ is a forest. We determine the threshold for the property $G(n,p)\xrightarrow{\text{mr}}(H_1,H_2)$ when $H_2$ is a forest, explicitly when the threshold is $Ω(n^{-1})$ and implicitly otherwise.

Let $S_k(n)$ be the maximum number of orientations of an $n$-vertex graph $G$ in which no copy of $K_k$ is strongly connected. For all integers $n$, $k\geq 4$ where $n\geq 5$ or $k\geq 5$, we prove that $S_k(n) = 2^{t_{k-1}(n)}$, where $t_{k-1}(n)$ is the number of edges of the $n$-vertex $(k-1)$-partite Turán graph $T_{k-1}(n)$, and that $T_{k-1}(n)$ is the only $n$-vertex graph with this number of orientations. Furthermore, $S_4(4) = 40$ and this maximality is achieved only by $K_4$.

We determine, up to a multiplicative constant, the optimal number of random edges that need to be added to a $k$-graph $H$ with minimum vertex degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$ to ensure an $F$-factor with high probability, for any $F$ that belongs to a certain class $\mathcal{F}$ of $k$-graphs, which includes, e.g., all $k$-partite $k$-graphs, $K_4^{(3)-}$ and the Fano plane. In particular, taking $F$ to be a single edge, this settles a problem of Krivelevich, Kwan and Sudakov [Combin. Probab. Comput. 25 (2016), 909--927]. We also address the case in which the host graph $H$ is not dense, indicating that starting from certain such $H$ is essentially the same as starting from an empty graph (namely, the purely random model).

We investigate the problem of determining how many monochromatic trees are necessary to cover the vertices of an edge-coloured random graph. More precisely, we show that for $p\gg n^{-1/6}{(\ln n)}^{1/6}$, in any $3$-edge-colouring of the random graph $G(n,p)$ we can find three monochromatic trees such that their union covers all vertices. This improves, for three colours, a result of Bucić, Korándi and Sudakov.

For graphs $G$ and $H$, let $G \overset{\mathrm{rb}}{\longrightarrow} H$ denote the property that for every proper edge colouring of $G$ there is a rainbow copy of $H$ in $G$. Extending a result of Nenadov, Person, Škorić and Steger [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 124 (2017),1-38], we determine the threshold for $G(n,p) \overset{\mathrm{rb}}{\longrightarrow} C_\ell$ for cycles $C_\ell$ of any given length $\ell \geq 4$.
Counting graph orientations with no directed triangles
Alon and Yuster proved that the number of orientations of any $n$-vertex graph in which every $K_3$ is transitively oriented is at most $2^{\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor}$ for $n \geq 10^4$ and conjectured that the precise lower bound on $n$ should be $n \geq 8$. We confirm their conjecture and, additionally, characterize the extremal families by showing that the balanced complete bipartite graph with $n$ vertices is the only $n$-vertex graph for which there are exactly $2^{\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor}$ such orientations.

Given a hypergraph $H$, the size-Ramsey number $\hat{r}_2(H)$ is the smallest integer $m$ such that there exists a graph $G$ with $m$ edges with the property that in any colouring of the edges of $G$ with two colours there is a monochromatic copy of $H$. We prove that the size-Ramsey number of the $3$-uniform tight path on $n$ vertices $P^{(3)}_n$ is linear in $n$, i.e., $\hat{r}_2(P^{(3)}_n) = O(n)$. This answers a question by Dudek, Fleur, Mubayi, and Rödl for $3$-uniform hypergraphs [On the size-Ramsey number of hypergraphs, J. Graph Theory 86 (2016), 417-434], who proved $\hat{r}_2(P^{(3)}_n) = O(n^{3/2} \log^{3/2} n)$.

Given a positive integer $s$, the $s$-colour size-Ramsey number of a graph $H$ is the smallest integer $m$ such that there exists a graph $G$ with $m$ edges with the property that, in any colouring of $E(G)$ with $s$ colours, there is a monochromatic copy of $H$. We prove that, for any positive integers $k$ and $s$, the $s$-colour size-Ramsey number of the $k$th power of any $n$-vertex bounded degree tree is linear in $n$. As a corollary we obtain that the $s$-colour size-Ramsey number of $n$-vertex graphs with bounded treewidth and bounded degree is linear in $n$, which answers a question raised by Kamčev, Liebenau, Wood and Yepremyan [The size Ramsey number of graphs with bounded treewidth, arXiv:1906.09185 (2019)].
Decomposing split graphs into locally irregular graphs
A graph is locally irregular if any pair of adjacent vertices have distinct degrees. A locally irregular decomposition of a graph $G$ is a decomposition $\mathcal{D}$ of $G$ such that every subgraph $H \in \mathcal{D}$ is locally irregular. A graph is said to be decomposable if it admits a locally irregular decomposition. We prove that any decomposable split graph can be decomposed into at most three locally irregular subgraphs and we characterize all split graphs whose decomposition can be into one, two or three locally irregular subgraphs.
The anti-Ramsey threshold of complete graphs
For graphs $G$ and $H$, let $G {\displaystyle\smash{\begin{subarray}{c} \hbox{$\tiny\rm rb$} \\ \longrightarrow \\ \hbox{$\tiny\rm p$} \end{subarray}}}H$ denote the property that for every proper edge-colouring of $G$ there is a rainbow $H$ in $G$. It is known that, for every graph $H$, an asymptotic upper bound for the threshold function $p^{\rm rb}_H=p^{\rm rb}_H(n)$ of this property for the random graph $G(n,p)$ is $n^{-1/m^{(2)}(H)}$, where $m^{(2)}(H)$ denotes the so-called maximum $2$-density of $H$. Extending a result of Nenadov, Person, Škorić, and Steger [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 124 (2017),1-38] we prove a matching lower bound for $p^{\rm rb}_{K_k}$ for $k\geq 5$. Furthermore, we show that $p^{\rm rb}_{K_4} = n^{-7/15}$.

We count orientations of $G(n,p)$ avoiding certain classes of oriented graphs. In particular, we study $T_r(n,p)$, the number of orientations of the binomial random graph $G(n,p)$ in which every copy of $K_r$ is transitive, and $S_r(n,p)$, the number of orientations of $G(n,p)$ containing no strongly connected copy of $K_r$. We give the correct order of growth of $\log T_r(n,p)$ and $\log S_r(n,p)$ up to polylogarithmic factors; for orientations with no cyclic triangle, this significantly improves a result of Allen, Kohayakawa, Mota and Parente. We also discuss the problem for a single forbidden oriented graph, and state a number of open problems and conjectures.

Given a positive integer $s$, a graph $G$ is $s$-Ramsey for a graph $H$, denoted $G\rightarrow (H)_s$, if every $s$-colouring of the edges of $G$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. The $s$-colour size-Ramsey number ${\hat{r}}_s(H)$ of a graph $H$ is defined to be ${\hat{r}}_s(H)=\min\{|E(G)|\colon G\rightarrow (H)_s\}$. We prove that, for all positive integers $k$ and $s$, we have ${\hat{r}}_s(P_n^k)=O(n)$, where $P_n^k$ is the $k$th power of the $n$-vertex path $P_n$.

An edge coloring of the n-vertex complete graph K_n is a Gallai coloring if it does not contain any rainbow triangle, that is, a triangle whose edges are colored with three distinct colors. We prove that the number of Gallai colorings of K_n with at most three colors is at most 7(n+1)*2^{n choose 2}, which improves the best known upper bound of \frac{3}{2} * (n-1)! * 2^{(n-1) choose 2} in [Discrete Mathematics, 2017].

We estimate the $3$-colour bipartite Ramsey number for balanced bipartite graphs $H$ with small bandwidth and bounded maximum degree. More precisely, we show that the minimum value of $N$ such that in any $3$-edge colouring of $K_{N,N}$ there is a monochromatic copy of $H$ is at most $\big(3/2+o(1)\big)|V(H)|$. In particular, we determine asymptotically the $3$-colour bipartite Ramsey number for balanced grid graphs.
