Exotic Spaltenstein varieties
We define a new family of algebraic varieties, called exotic Spaltenstein varieties. These generalise the notion of Spaltenstein varieties (which are the partial flag analogues to classical Springer fibres) to the case of exotic Springer fibres. We show that, for self-adjoint nilpotent endomorphisms of order two, the top-dimensional irreducible components are in bijection with semi-standard Young bitableaux, via constructing an explicit map. Moreover, we are able to give a combinatorial formula for this top dimension. We conjecture that this description of the irreducible components holds for nilpotent endomorphisms of arbitrary order. Finally, we mention some connections to the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence.

Parabolic induction for Springer fibres
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a reductive group satisfying the standard hypotheses, with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. For each nilpotent orbit $\mathcal{O}_0$ in a Levi subalgebra $\mathfrak{g}_0$ we can consider the induced orbit $\mathcal{O}$ defined by Lusztig and Spaltenstein. We observe that there is a natural closed morphism of relative dimension zero from the Springer fibre over a point of $\mathcal{O}_0$ to the Springer fibre over $\mathcal{O}$, which induces an injection on the level of irreducible components. When $G = \operatorname{GL}_N$ the components of Springer fibres was classified by Spaltenstein using standard tableaux. Our main results explains how the Lusztig--Spaltenstein map of Springer fibres can be described combinatorially, using a new associative composition rule for standard tableaux which we call stacking.

Exotic Springer fibers for orbits corresponding to one-row bipartitions
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the geometry and topology of exotic Springer fibers for orbits corresponding to one-row bipartitions from an explicit, combinatorial point of view. This includes a detailed analysis of the structure of the irreducible components and their intersections as well as the construction of an explicit affine paving. Moreover, we compute the ring structure of cohomology by constructing a CW-complex homotopy equivalent to the exotic Springer fiber. This homotopy equivalent space admits an action of the type C Weyl group inducing Kato's original exotic Springer representation on cohomology. Our results are described in terms of the diagrammatics of the one-boundary Temperley-Lieb algebra (also known as the blob algebra). This provides a first step in generalizing the geometric versions of Khovanov's arc algebra to the exotic setting.

Irreducible components of exotic Springer fibres
Published • View PublicationBIB
Kato introduced the exotic nilpotent cone to be a substitute for the ordinary nilpotent cone of type C with cleaner properties. Here we describe the irreducible components of exotic Springer fibres (the fibres of the resolution of the exotic nilpotent cone), and prove that they are naturally in bijection with standard bitableaux. As a result, we deduce the existence of an exotic Robinson-Schensted bijection, which is a variant of the type C Robinson-Schensted bijection between pairs of same-shape standard bitableaux and elements of the Weyl group; this bijection is described explicitly in the sequel to this paper. Note that this is in contrast with ordinary type C Springer fibres, where the parametrisation of irreducible components, and the resulting geometric Robinson-Schensted bijection, are more complicated. As an application, we explicitly describe the structure in the special cases where the irreducible components of the exotic Springer fibre have dimension 2, and show that in those cases one obtains Hirzebruch surfaces.
