Vershik-Kerov in higher times
Several generalizations of Vershik-Kerov limit shape problem are motivated by topological string theory and supersymmetric gauge theory instanton count. In this paper specifically we study the circular and linear quiver theories. We also briefly discuss the double-elliptic generalization of the Vershik-Kerov problem, related to six dimensional gauge theory compactified on a torus, and to elliptic cohomology of the Hilbert scheme of points on a plane. We prove that the limit shape in that setting is governed by a genus two algebraic curve, suggesting unexpected dualities between the enumerative and equivariant parameters.

Elliptic analogue of Vershik-Kerov limit shape
We review the limit shape problem for the Plancherel measure and its generalizations found in supersymmetric gauge theory instanton count. We focus on the measure, interpolating between the Plancherel measure and uniform measure, a U(1) case of N=2* gauge theory. We give the formula for its limit shape in terms of elliptic functions, generalizing the trigonometric ``arcsin'' law of Vershik-Kerov and Logan-Schepp.

Blowups in BPS/CFT correspondence, and Painlevé VI

We study four dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory in the presence of surface and point-like defects (blowups) and propose an identity relating partition functions at different values of $Ω$-deformation parameters $({\varepsilon}_{1}, {\varepsilon}_{2})$. As a consequence, we obtain the formula conjectured in 2012 by O$.$Gamayun, N$.$Iorgov, and O$.$Lysovyy, relating the tau-function $τ_{PVI}$ to $c=1$ conformal blocks of Liouville theory and propose its generalization for the case of Garnier-Schlesinger system. To this end we clarify the notion of the quasiclassical tau-function $τ_{PVI}$ of Painlevé VI and its generalizations. We also make some remarks about the sphere partition functions, the boundary operator product expansion in the ${\mathcal{N}}=(4,4)$ sigma models related to four dimensional ${\mathcal{N}}=2$ theories on toric manifolds, discuss crossed instantons on conifolds, elucidate some aspects of the BPZ/KZ correspondence, and applications to quantization.

Riemann-Hilbert correspondence and blown up surface defects
Published in JHEP12(2020)006 • View PublicationBIB
The relationship of two dimensional quantum field theory and isomonodromic deformations of Fuchsian systems has a long history. Recently four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauge theories joined the party in a multitude of roles. In this paper we study the vacuum expectation values of intersecting half-BPS surface defects in $SU(2)$ theory with $N_f=4$ fundamental hypermultiplets. We show they form a horizontal section of a Fuchsian system on a sphere with $5$ regular singularities, calculate the monodromy, and define the associated isomonodromic tau-function. Using the blowup formula in the presence of half-BPS surface defects, initiated in the companion paper, we obtain the GIL formula, establishing an unexpected relation of the topological string/free fermion regime of supersymmetric gauge theory to classical integrability.

Magnificent Four with Colors

We study the rank N magnificent four theory, which is the supersymmetric localization of U(N) super-Yang-Mills theory with matter (a super-group U(N|N) gauge theory) on a Calabi-Yau fourfold. Our theory contains the higher rank Donaldson-Thomas theory of threefolds. We conjecture an explicit formula for the partition function Z, and report on the performed checks. The partition function Z has a free field representation. Surprisingly, it depends on the Coulomb and mass parameters in a simple way. We also clarify the definition of the instanton measure.

We present a statistical mechanical model whose random variables are solid partitions, i.e. Young diagrams built by stacking up four dimensional hypercubes. Equivalently, it can be viewed as the model of random tessellations of ${\bf R}^{3}$ by squashed cubes of four fixed orientations. The model computes the refined index of a system of D0-branes in the presence of $D8$-$\overline{D8}$ system, with a $B$-field strong enough to support the bound states. Mathematically, it is the equivariant K-theoretic version of integration over the Hilbert scheme of points on ${\bf C}^{4}$ and its higher rank analogues, albeit the definition is real, not complex analytic. The model is a mother of all random partition models, including the equivariant Donaldson-Thomas theory and the four dimensional instanton counting. Finally, a version of our model with infinite solid partitions with four fixed plane partition asymptotics is the vertex contribution to the equivariant count of instantons on toric Calabi-Yau fourfolds. The conjectured partition function of the model is presented. We have checked it up to six instantons (which is one step beyond the checks of the celebrated P.~MacMahon's failed conjectures of the early XX century). A specialization of the formula is our earlier (2004) conjecture on the equivariant K-theoretic Donaldson-Thomas theory, proven by A.~Okounkov in 2015.

BPS/CFT correspondence IV: sigma models and defects in gauge theory

Quantum field theory $L_1$ on spacetime $X_{1}$ can be coupled to another quantum field theory $L_2$ on a spacetime $X_{2}$ via the third quantum field theory $L_{12}$ living on $X_{12} = X_{1} \cap X_{2}$. We explore several such constructions with two and four dimensional $X_{1}, X_{2}$'s and zero and two dimensional $X_{12}$'s, in the context of $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry, non-perturbative Dyson-Schwinger equations, and BPS/CFT correspondence. The companion paper will show that the BPZ and KZ equations of two dimensional conformal field theory are obeyed by the half-BPS surface defects in quiver $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauge theories.

BPS/CFT Correspondence III: Gauge Origami partition function and qq-characters

We study generalized gauge theories engineered by taking the low energy limit of the $Dp$ branes wrapping $X \times T^{p-3}$, with $X$ a possibly singular surface in a Calabi-Yau fourfold $Z$. For toric $Z$ and $X$ the partition function can be computed by localization, making it a statistical mechanical model, called the gauge origami. The random variables are the ensembles of Young diagrams. The building block of the gauge origami is associated with a tetrahedron, whose edges are colored by vector spaces. We show the properly normalized partition function is an entire function of the Coulomb moduli, for generic values of the $Ω$-background parameters. The orbifold version of the theory defines the $qq$-character operators, with and without the surface defects. The analytic properties are the consequence of a relative compactness of the moduli spaces $M({\vec n}, k)$ of crossed and spiked instantons, demonstrated in arXiv:1608.07272.
