The Complete Intersection property for binomial ideals of collections of cells
In this paper, we provide a combinatorial characterization of those collections of cells whose inner $2$-minor ideals are complete intersections. More precisely, given a collection of cells $\mathcal C$ and its associated inner $2$-minor ideal $I_{\mathcal C}$, we prove that $I_{\mathcal C}$ is a complete intersection if and only if $\mathcal C$ is a chessboard.
On the $(S_2)$-condition of edge rings for cactus graphs

A cactus graph is a connected graph in which every block is either an edge or a cycle. In this paper, we will examine cactus graphs where all the blocks are $3$-cycles, i.e., triangular cactus graphs, of diameter $4$. Our main focus is to prove that the corresponding edge ring of this family of graphs is not normal and satisfies Serre's condition $(S_2)$. We use a criterion due to Katthän for non-normal affine semigroup rings.
On the rook polynomial of grid polyominoes
We investigate the algebraic properties of the coordinate ring of grid polyominoes. This class of non-simple and thin polyominoes was introduced by Mascia, Rinaldo, and Romeo, but not much is known about their polyomino ideals, $I_{\mathcal{P}}$, and their related coordinate ring, $K[\mathcal{P}]$. We give a formula for the Krull dimension of $K[\mathcal{P}]$ in terms of the combinatorics of the polyomino and we prove that $I_{\mathcal{P}}$ is of König type if and only if the polyomino has exactly one hole. In addition, we study a Conjecture of Rinaldo and Romeo which characterizes the thin polyominoes, and we confirm it for grid polyominoes. Namely, in the main result of this article, we prove that the $h$-polynomial of $K[\mathcal{P}]$ is equal to the rook polynomial of $\mathcal{P}$, and, as a consequence, the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $K[\mathcal{P}]$ is equal to $r(\mathcal{P})$, the maximum number of rooks that can be placed in $\mathcal{P}$ in non-attacking positions. Our method to prove this result is based on the theory of simplicial complexes. We provide a suitable shelling order for $Δ_{\mathcal{P}}$, the simplicial complex attached to $\mathcal{P}$ in relation to a generalized step of a facet, and we show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the facets of $Δ_{\mathcal{P}}$ with $k$ generalized steps and the $k$-rook configurations in $\mathcal{P}$.

We study the Kőnig type property for non-simple polyominoes. We prove that, for closed path polyominoes, the polyomino ideals are of Kőnig type, extending the results of Herzog and Hibi for simple thin polyominoes. As an application of this result, we give a combinatorial interpretation for the canonical module of the coordinate ring of a sub-class of closed path polyominoes, namely circle closed path polyominoes. In this case, we compute also the Cohen-Macaulay type and we show that $K[\mathcal{P}]$ is a level ring.
K-theoretic Tutte polynomials of morphisms of matroids

We generalize the Tutte polynomial of a matroid to a morphism of matroids via the K-theory of flag varieties. We introduce two different generalizations, and demonstrate that each has its own merits, where the trade-off is between the ease of combinatorics and geometry. One generalization recovers the Las Vergnas Tutte polynomial of a morphism of matroids, which admits a corank-nullity formula and a deletion-contraction recursion. The other generalization does not, but better reflects the geometry of flag varieties.

We study the Gorenstein property for phylogenetic group-based models. We prove that for the groups $\mathbb Z_3$ and $\mathbb Z_2\times \mathbb Z_2$ and trivalent trees the associated polytopes are always Gorenstein extending the results of Buczyńska and Wiśniewski for the group $\mathbb Z_2$.
Gorenstein $T$-spread Veronese algebras
In this paper we characterize the Gorenstein $t$-spread Veronese algebras.
Flag matroids: algebra and geometry

Matroids are ubiquitous in modern combinatorics. As discovered by Gelfand, Goresky, MacPherson and Serganova there is a beautiful connection between matroid theory and the geometry of Grassmannians: realizable matroids correspond to torus orbits in Grassmannians. Further, as observed by Fink and Speyer general matroids correspond to classes in the $K$-theory of Grassmannians. This yields in particular a geometric description of the Tutte polynomial. In this review we describe all these constructions in detail, and moreover we generalise some of them to polymatroids. More precisely, we study the class of flag matroids and their relations to flag varieties. In this way, we obtain an analogue of the Tutte polynomial for flag matroids.

We study join-meet ideals associated with modular non-distributive lattices. We give a lower bound for the regularity and show that they are not linearly related.
