Generalized Pell graphs
In this paper, generalized Pell graphs $Π_{n,k}$, $k\ge 2$, are introduced. The special case of $k=2$ are the Pell graphs $Π_{n}$ defined earlier by Munarini. Several metric, enumerative, and structural properties of these graphs are established. The generating function of the number of edges of $Π_{n,k}$ and the generating function of its cube polynomial are determined. The center of $Π_{n,k}$ is explicitly described; if $k$ is even, then it induces the Fibonacci cube $Γ_{n}$. It is also shown that $Π_{n,k}$ is a median graph, and that $Π_{n,k}$ embeds into a Fibonacci cube.

Total mutual-visibility in Hamming graphs
Published in Opuscula Math. 45 (2025) 63-78 • View PublicationBIB
If $G$ is a graph and $X\subseteq V(G)$, then $X$ is a total mutual-visibility set if every pair of vertices $x$ and $y$ of $G$ admits a shortest $x,y$-path $P$ with $V(P) \cap X \subseteq \{x,y\}$. The cardinality of a largest total mutual-visibility set of $G$ is the total mutual-visibility number $μ_{\rm t}(G)$ of $G$. In this paper the total mutual-visibility number is studied on Hamming graphs, that is, Cartesian products of complete graphs. Different equivalent formulations for the problem are derived. The values $μ_{\rm t}(K_{n_1}\,\square\, K_{n_2}\,\square\, K_{n_3})$ are determined. It is proved that $μ_{\rm t}(K_{n_1} \,\square\, \cdots \,\square\, K_{n_r}) = O(N^{r-2})$, where $N = n_1+\cdots + n_r$, and that $μ_{\rm t}(K_s^{\,\square\,, r}) = Θ(s^{r-2})$ for every $r\ge 3$, where $K_s^{\,\square\,, r}$ denotes the Cartesian product of $r$ copies of $K_s$. The main theorems are also reformulated as Turán-type results on hypergraphs.
Lower General Position Sets in Graphs
A subset $S$ of vertices of a graph $G$ is a \emph{general position set} if no shortest path in $G$ contains three or more vertices of $S$. In this paper, we generalise a problem of M. Gardner to graph theory by introducing the \emph{lower general position number} $\gp ^-(G)$ of $G$, which is the number of vertices in a smallest maximal general position set of $G$. We show that ${\rm gp}^-(G) = 2$ if and only if $G$ contains a universal line and determine this number for several classes of graphs, including Kneser graphs $K(n,2)$, line graphs of complete graphs, and Cartesian and direct products of two complete graphs. We also prove several realisation results involving the lower general position number, the general position number and the geodetic number, and compare it with the lower version of the monophonic position number. We provide a sharp upper bound on the size of graphs with given lower general position number. Finally we demonstrate that the decision version of the lower general position problem is NP-complete.

Generalized stepwise transmission irregular graphs
The transmission ${\rm Tr}_G(u)$ of a vertex $u$ of a connected graph $G$ is the sum of distances from $u$ to all other vertices. $G$ is a stepwise transmission irregular (STI) graph if $|{\rm Tr}_G(u) - {\rm Tr}_G(v)|= 1$ holds for any edge $uv\in E(G)$. In this paper, generalized STI graphs are introduced as the graphs $G$ such that for some $k\ge 1$ we have $|{\rm Tr}_G(u) - {\rm Tr}_G(v)|= k$ for any edge $uv$ of $G$. It is proved that generalized STI graphs are bipartite and that as soon as the minimum degree is at least $2$, they are 2-edge connected. Among the trees, the only generalized STI graphs are stars. The diameter of STI graphs is bounded and extremal cases discussed. The Cartesian product operation is used to obtain highly connected generalized STI graphs. Several families of generalized STI graphs are constructed.
Graphs whose mixed metric dimension is equal to their order
The mixed metric dimension ${\rm mdim}(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the cardinality of a smallest set of vertices that (metrically) resolves each pair of elements from $V(G)\cup E(G)$. We say that $G$ is a max-mdim graph if ${\rm mdim}(G) = n(G)$. It is proved that a max-mdim graph $G$ with $n(G)\ge 7$ contains a vertex of degree at least $5$. Using the strong product of graphs and amalgamations large families of max-mdim graphs are constructed. The mixed metric dimension of graphs with at least one universal vertex is determined. The mixed metric dimension of graphs $G$ with cut vertices is bounded from the above and the mixed metric dimension of block graphs computed.
Partial domination in supercubic graphs
For some $α$ with $0 < α\le 1$, a subset $X$ of vertices in a graph $G$ of order~$n$ is an $α$-partial dominating set of $G$ if the set $X$ dominates at least $α\times n$ vertices in $G$. The $α$-partial domination number ${\rm pd}_α(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of an $α$-partial dominating set of $G$. In this paper partial domination of graphs with minimum degree at least $3$ is studied. It is proved that if $G$ is a graph of order~$n$ and with $δ(G)\ge 3$, then ${\rm pd}_{\frac{7}{8}}(G) \le \frac{1}{3}n$. If in addition $n\ge 60$, then ${\rm pd}_{\frac{9}{10}}(G) \le \frac{1}{3}n$, and if $G$ is a connected cubic graph of order $n\ge 28$, then ${\rm pd}_{\frac{13}{14}}(G) \le \frac{1}{3}n$. Along the way it is shown that there are exactly four connected cubic graphs of order $14$ with domination number $5$.

Edge general position sets in Fibonacci and Lucas cubes
A set of edges $X\subseteq E(G)$ of a graph $G$ is an edge general position set if no three edges from $X$ lie on a common shortest path in $G$. The cardinality of a largest edge general position set of $G$ is the edge general position number of $G$. In this paper edge general position sets are investigated in partial cubes. In particular it is proved that the union of two largest $Θ$-classes of a Fibonacci cube or a Lucas cube is a maximal edge general position set.
Variety of mutual-visibility problems in graphs
If $X$ is a subset of vertices of a graph $G$, then vertices $u$ and $v$ are $X$-visible if there exists a shortest $u,v$-path $P$ such that $V(P)\cap X \subseteq \{u,v\}$. If each two vertices from $X$ are $X$-visible, then $X$ is a mutual-visibility set. The mutual-visibility number of $G$ is the cardinality of a largest mutual-visibility set of $G$ and has been already investigated. In this paper a variety of mutual-visibility problems is introduced based on which natural pairs of vertices are required to be $X$-visible. This yields the total, the dual, and the outer mutual-visibility numbers. We first show that these graph invariants are related to each other and to the classical mutual-visibility number, and then we prove that the three newly introduced mutual-visibility problems are computationally difficult. According to this result, we compute or bound their values for several graphs classes that include for instance grid graphs and tori. We conclude the study by presenting some inter-comparison between the values of such parameters, which is based on the computations we made for some specific families.

The Cut Method on Hypergraphs for the Wiener Index
The cut method has been proved to be extremely useful in chemical graph theory. In this paper the cut method is extended to hypergraphs. More precisely, the method is developed for the Wiener index of $k$-uniform partial cube-hypergraphs. The method is applied to cube-hypergraphs and hypertrees. Extensions of the method to hypergraphs arising in chemistry which are not necessary $k$-uniform and/or not necessary linear are also developed.

Computational complexity aspects of super domination
Let $G$ be a graph. A dominating set $D\subseteq V(G)$ is a super dominating set if for every vertex $x\in V(G) \setminus D$ there exists $y\in D$ such that $N_G(y)\cap (V(G)\setminus D)) = \{x\}$. The cardinality of a smallest super dominating set of $G$ is the super domination number of $G$. An exact formula for the super domination number of a tree $T$ is obtained and demonstrated that a smallest super dominating set of $T$ can be computed in linear time. It is proved that it is NP-complete to decide whether the super domination number of a graph $G$ is at most a given integer if $G$ is a bipartite graph of girth at least $8$. The super domination number is determined for all $k$-subdivisions of graphs. Interestingly, in half of the cases the exact value can be efficiently computed from the obtained formulas, while in the other cases the computation is hard. While obtaining these formulas, II-matching numbers are introduced and proved that they are computationally hard to determine.

Extremal edge general position sets in some graphs
A set of edges $X\subseteq E(G)$ of a graph $G$ is an edge general position set if no three edges from $X$ lie on a common shortest path. The edge general position number ${\rm gp}_{\rm e}(G)$ of $G$ is the cardinality of a largest edge general position set in $G$. Graphs $G$ with ${\rm gp}_{\rm e}(G) = |E(G)| - 1$ and with ${\rm gp}_{\rm e}(G) = 3$ are respectively characterized. Sharp upper and lower bounds on ${\rm gp}_{\rm e}(G)$ are proved for block graphs $G$ and exact values are determined for several specific block graphs.

Graphs with total mutual-visibility number zero and total mutual-visibility in Cartesian products
Published • View PublicationBIB
If $G$ is a graph and $X\subseteq V(G)$, then $X$ is a total mutual-visibility set if every pair of vertices $x$ and $y$ of $G$ admits a shortest $x,y$-path $P$ with $V(P) \cap X \subseteq \{x,y\}$. The cardinality of a largest total mutual-visibility set of $G$ is the total mutual-visibility number $μ_{\rm t}(G)$ of $G$. Graphs with $μ_{\rm t}(G) = 0$ are characterized as the graphs in which no vertex is the central vertex of a convex $P_3$. The total mutual-visibility number of Cartesian products is bounded and several exact results proved. For instance, $μ_{\rm t}(K_n\,\square\, K_m) = \max\{n,m\}$ and $μ_{\rm t}(T\,\square\, H) = μ_{\rm t}(T)μ_{\rm t}(H)$, where $T$ is a tree and $H$ an arbitrary graph. It is also demonstrated that $μ_{\rm t}(G\,\square\, H)$ can be arbitrary larger than $μ_{\rm t}(G)μ_{\rm t}(H)$.

Maker-Breaker domination game on trees when Staller wins
Published in Discrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, vol. 25:2, Graph Theory (September 6, 2023) dmtcs:10515 • View PublicationBIB
In the Maker-Breaker domination game played on a graph $G$, Dominator's goal is to select a dominating set and Staller's goal is to claim a closed neighborhood of some vertex. We study the cases when Staller can win the game. If Dominator (resp., Staller) starts the game, then $γ_{\rm SMB}(G)$ (resp., $γ_{\rm SMB}'(G)$) denotes the minimum number of moves Staller needs to win. For every positive integer $k$, trees $T$ with $γ_{\rm SMB}'(T)=k$ are characterized and a general upper bound on $γ_{\rm SMB}'$ is proved. Let $S = S(n_1,\dots, n_\ell)$ be the subdivided star obtained from the star with $\ell$ edges by subdividing its edges $n_1-1, \ldots, n_\ell-1$ times, respectively. Then $γ_{\rm SMB}'(S)$ is determined in all the cases except when $\ell\ge 4$ and each $n_i$ is even. The simplest formula is obtained when there are at least two odd $n_i$s. If $n_1$ and $n_2$ are the two smallest such numbers, then $γ_{\rm SMB}'(S(n_1,\dots, n_\ell))=\lceil \log_2(n_1+n_2+1)\rceil$. For caterpillars, exact formulas for $γ_{\rm SMB}$ and for $γ_{\rm SMB}'$ are established.

Nonlocal metric dimension of graphs
Nonlocal metric dimension ${\rm dim}_{\rm n\ell}(G)$ of a graph $G$ is introduced as the cardinality of a smallest nonlocal resolving set, that is, a set of vertices which resolves each pair of non-adjacent vertices of $G$. Graphs $G$ with ${\rm dim}_{\rm n\ell}(G) = 1$ or with ${\rm dim}_{\rm n\ell}(G) = n(G)-2$ are characterized. The nonlocal metric dimension is determined for block graphs, for corona products, and for wheels. Two upper bounds on the nonlocal metric dimension are proved. An embedding of an arbitrary graph into a supergraph with a small nonlocal metric dimension and small diameter is presented.

New transmission irregular chemical graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The transmission of a vertex $v$ of a (chemical) graph $G$ is the sum of distances from $v$ to other vertices in $G$. If any two vertices of $G$ have different transmissions, then $G$ is a transmission irregular graph. It is shown that for any odd number $n\geq 7$ there exists a transmission irregular chemical tree of order $n$. A construction is provided which generates new transmission irregular (chemical) trees. Two additional families of chemical graphs are characterized by property of transmission irregularity and two sufficient condition provided which guarantee that the transmission irregularity is preserved upon adding a new edge.
Orientable domination in product-like graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The orientable domination number, ${\rm DOM}(G)$, of a graph $G$ is the largest domination number over all orientations of $G$. In this paper, ${\rm DOM}$ is studied on different product graphs and related graph operations. The orientable domination number of arbitrary corona products is determined, while sharp lower and upper bounds are proved for Cartesian and lexicographic products. A result of Chartrand et al. from 1996 is extended by establishing the values of ${\rm DOM}(K_{n_1,n_2,n_3})$ for arbitrary positive integers $n_1,n_2$ and $n_3$. While considering the orientable domination number of lexicographic product graphs, we answer in the negative a question concerning domination and packing numbers in acyclic digraphs posed in [Domination in digraphs and their direct and Cartesian products, J. Graph Theory 99 (2022) 359-377].

Geodesic packing in graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a graph $G$, a geodesic packing in $G$ is a set of vertex-disjoint maximal geodesics, and the geodesic packing number of $G$, ${\gpack}(G)$, is the maximum cardinality of a geodesic packing in $G$. It is proved that the decision version of the geodesic packing number is NP-complete. We also consider the geodesic transversal number, ${\gt}(G)$, which is the minimum cardinality of a set of vertices that hit all maximal geodesics in $G$. While $\gt(G)\ge \gpack(G)$ in every graph $G$, the quotient ${\rm gt}(G)/{\rm gpack}(G)$ is investigated. By using the rook's graph, it is proved that there does not exist a constant $C < 3$ such that $\frac{{\rm gt}(G)}{{\rm gpack}(G)}\le C$ would hold for all graphs $G$. If $T$ is a tree, then it is proved that ${\rm gpack}(T) = {\rm gt}(T)$, and a linear algorithm for determining ${\rm gpack}(T)$ is derived. The geodesic packing number is also determined for the strong product of paths.
The geodesic cover problem for butterfly networks
Published in Fundamenta Informaticae, Volume 194, Issue 3 (October 27, 2025) fi:10201 • View PublicationBIB
A geodesic cover, also known as an isometric path cover, of a graph is a set of geodesics which cover the vertex set of the graph. An edge geodesic cover of a graph is a set of geodesics which cover the edge set of the graph. The geodesic (edge) cover number of a graph is the cardinality of a minimum (edge) geodesic cover. The (edge) geodesic cover problem of a graph is to find the (edge) geodesic cover number of the graph. Surprisingly, only partial solutions for these problems are available for most situations. In this paper we demonstrate that the geodesic cover number of the $r$-dimensional butterfly is $\lceil (2/3)2^r\rceil$ and that its edge geodesic cover number is $2^r$.
Mutual-visibility in strong products of graphs via total mutual-visibility
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a graph and $X\subseteq V(G)$. Then $X$ is a mutual-visibility set if each pair of vertices from $X$ is connected by a geodesic with no internal vertex in $X$. The mutual-visibility number $μ(G)$ of $G$ is the cardinality of a largest mutual-visibility set. In this paper, the mutual-visibility number of strong product graphs is investigated. As a tool for this, total mutual-visibility sets are introduced. Along the way, basic properties of such sets are presented. The (total) mutual-visibility number of strong products is bounded from below in two ways, and determined exactly for strong grids of arbitrary dimension. Strong prisms are studied separately and a couple of tight bounds for their mutual-visibility number are given.
Traversing a graph in general position
Let $G$ be a graph. Assume that to each vertex of a set of vertices $S\subseteq V(G)$ a robot is assigned. At each stage one robot can move to a neighbouring vertex. Then $S$ is a mobile general position set of $G$ if there exists a sequence of moves of the robots such that all the vertices of $G$ are visited whilst maintaining the general position property at all times. The mobile general position number of $G$ is the cardinality of a largest mobile general position set of $G$. In this paper, bounds on the mobile general position number are given and exact values determined for certain common classes of graphs including block graphs, rooted products, unicyclic graphs, Cartesian products, joins of graphs, Kneser graphs $K(n,2)$, and line graphs of complete graphs.
