Near-optimal Turán densities of $r$-graphs on $r+1$ vertices
Let $π(H)$ be the Turán density of an r-uniform hypergraph $H$ and let $H_k^r$ denote the $r$-uniform hypergraph on $r+1$ vertices with exactly $k$ edges, where $1\le k\le r+1$. Sidorenko~(JCT-B, 2024) proved that $π(H_3^r)\ge (1.7215-o(1))r^{-2}$ as $r\to\infty$ and $π(H_k^r)\ge (C_k+o(1))r^{-(1+1/(k-2))}$ for fixed $k$ as $r\to\infty$. Clemen~later improved the first bound to $π(H_3^r)\ge cr^{-2}\sqrt{\log r}$ for some constant $c>0$. In this article, we prove the following results. \begin{itemize} \item For any fixed $\varepsilon>0$, there is a constant $c_\varepsilon>0$ such that $$π(H_3^r)\ge \frac{c_\varepsilon}{r(\log r)^{2+\varepsilon}}.$$ %$π(H_3^r)\ge 1/(r(\log r)^{2+o(1)})$. Together with the known upper bound $π(H_3^r)\le1/r$, this implies $π(H_3^r)=r^{-1+o(1)}$. \item For every $3\le k\le r+1$, let $s=\min\{k-2,r-k+2\}$. Then \begin{equation*} 0\le \frac{k-2}{r}-π(H_k^r) \le \frac{128}{r}\left(\sqrt{s\log\frac{er}{s}}+\log\frac{er}{s}\right). \end{equation*} This estimate yields several asymptotically sharp results for $π(H_k^r)$. For example, $π(H_k^r)=(1+o(1))(k-2)/r$ when $\log(er/(k))=o(k)$. \end{itemize}

Turán-Type Extremal Results for Distance-$k$ Graphs
We study Turán-type extremal problems for distance graphs, motivated by work of Csikvári, Bollobás, Tyomkyn, and Uzzell. We determine the maximum number of vertex pairs at distance three in an $n$-vertex graph with no triangle formed by these pairs, resolving the first case of a conjecture of Tyomkyn and Uzzell. We also determine the maximum number of vertex pairs at distance two in an $n$-vertex graph with no triangle formed by these pairs and give a complete characterization of the extremal graphs, settling another problem of Tyomkyn and Uzzell.

The Turán number of the triangular pyramid of 4-layers
The Turán number $ex(n,H)$ of a graph $H$ is the maximum number of edges in any $H$-free graph on $n$ vertices. The triangular pyramid of $k$-layers, denoted by $TP_k$, is a generalization of a triangle. The Turán problems of a triangular pyramid with small layers have been studied widely by Liu (E-JC, 2013), Xiao, Katona, Xiao and Zamora (DAM, 2022), Ghosh, Győri, Paulos, Xiao and Zamora (DAM, 2022). Moreover, Ghosh et al. conjectured that $ex(n, TP_4)=\frac{1}{4}n^2+Θ(n^{\frac{4}{3}})$. In this note, we confirm this conjecture.

The Connected Bipartite Turán Problem for Long Cycles and Paths
Caro, Patkós, and Tuza initiated a systematic study of the bipartite Turán number for trees, and in particular asked for the extremal number of edges in connected bipartite graphs with prescribed color-class sizes that contain no paths of given lengths. In this paper, we determine these numbers exactly and describe all corresponding extremal configurations. Our approach first establishes a more general result for long cycles: we determine the exact structure of all 2-connected bipartite graphs with no cycle of length at least a given constant. The proof combines Kopylov's method for long cycles with a strengthened version of Jackson's classical lemma, in which every extremal configuration is characterized. To highlight the applicability of our results, we conclude with applications yielding concise proofs of classical theorems on bipartite Turán numbers, notably rederiving the results of Gyárfás, Rousseau, and Schelp for paths and Jackson for long cycles.
Sets avoiding a rainbow solution to the generalized Schur equation
A classical result in combinatorial number theory states that the largest subset of $[n]$ avoiding a solution to the equation $x+y=z$ is of size $\lceil n/2 \rceil$. For all integers $k>m$, we prove multicolored extensions of this result where we maximize the sum and product of the sizes of sets $A_1,A_2,\dots,A_k \subseteq [n]$ avoiding a rainbow solution to the Schur equation $x_1+x_2+\dots+x_m=x_{m+1}$. Moreover, we determine all the extremal families.
Turán problems for suspension of a balanced tree
The Turán number $\ex(n,H)$ is the maximum number of edges that an $n$-vertex $H$-free graph can have. The suspension $\widehat{H}$ is obtained from $H$ by adding a new vertex which is adjacent to all vertices of $H$ and a tree is balanced if the sizes of its two color classes differ at most $1$. In this paper, we obtain a sharp bound of $\ex(n,\widehat{T})$ when $n\ge 4(4k)^6$ based on the Erdős-Sós conjecture. We also show the bound is sharp for infinitely many $n$ and characterize all extremal graphs. In particular, if $T$ satisfies some conditions such as $T$ contains a matching covering all vertices in one color class, then the bound is sharp for all $n$. This is a new class of graphs whose decomposition family does not contain a linear forest but we still can determine its Turán number.

Improved bound on the number of edges of diameter-$k$-critical graphs
A graph is diameter-$k$-critical if its diameter equals $k$ and the deletion of any edge increases its diameter. The Murty-Simon Conjecture states that for any diameter-2-critical graph $G$ of order $n$, $e(G) \leq \lfloor \frac{n^2}{4}\rfloor$, with equality if and only if $G \cong K_{\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor,\lceil \frac{n}{2}\rceil}$. Füredi (JGT,1992) proved that this conjecture is true for sufficiently large $n$. Over two decades later, Loh and Ma (JCT-B, 2016) proved that $e(G) \leq \frac{n^2}{6}+o(n^2)$ for diameter-3-critical graphs $G$, and $e(G) \leq \frac{3n^2}{k}$ for diameter-$k$-critical graphs $G$ with $k \geq 4$. In this paper, we improve the bound for diameter-$k$-critical graphs to $ \frac{n^2}{2k}+o(n^2)$.

Generalized Turán problem for a path and a clique
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a family of graphs. The generalized Turán number $ex(n, K_r, \mathcal{H})$ is the maximum number of copies of the clique $K_r$ in any $n$-vertex $\mathcal{H}$-free graph. In this paper, we determine the value of $ex(n, K_r, \{P_k, K_m \} )$ for sufficiently large $n$ with an exceptional case, and characterize all corresponding extremal graphs, which generalizes and strengthens the results of Katona and Xiao [EJC, 2024] on $ex(n, K_2, \{P_k, K_m \} )$. For the exceptional case, we obtain a tight upper bound for $ex(n, K_r, \{P_k, K_m \} )$ that confirms a conjecture on $ex(n, K_2, \{P_k, K_m \} )$ posed by Katona and Xiao.
Maximum cliques in a graph without disjoint given subgraph
The generalized Turán number $\ex(n,K_s,F)$ denotes the maximum number of copies of $K_s$ in an $n$-vertex $F$-free graph. Let $kF$ denote $k$ disjoint copies of $F$. Gerbner, Methuku and Vizer [DM, 2019, 3130-3141] gave a lower bound for $\ex(n,K_3,2C_5)$ and obtained the magnitude of $\ex(n, K_s, kK_r)$. In this paper, we determine the exact value of $\ex(n,K_3,2C_5)$ and described the unique extremal graph for large $n$. Moreover, we also determine the exact value of $\ex(n,K_r,(k+1)K_r)$ which generalizes some known results.

Extremal problems for a matching and any other graph
For a family of graphs $\F$, a graph is called $\F$-free if it does not contain any member of $\F$ as a subgraph. The generalized Turán number $\ex(n,K_r,\F)$ is the maximum number of $K_r$ in an $n$-vertex $\F$-free graph and $\ex(n,K_2,\F)=\ex(n,\F)$, i.e., the classical Turán number. Let $M_{s+1}$ be a matching on $s+1$ edges and $F$ be any graph. In this paper, we determine $\ex(n,K_r, \{M_{s+1},F\})$ apart from a constant additive term and also give a condition when the error constant term can be determined. In particular, we give the exact value of $\ex(n,\{M_{s+1},F\})$ for $F$ being any non-bipartite graph or some bipartite graphs. Furthermore, we determine $\ex(n,K_r,\{M_{s+1},F\})$ when $F$ is color critical with $χ(F)\ge \max\{r+1,4\}$. These extend the results in [2,11,18].

A new construction for planar Turán number of cycle
The planar Turán number ${\rm ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,C_k)$ is the largest number of edges in an $n$-vertex planar graph with no cycle of length $k$. Let $k\ge 11$ and $C,D$ be constants. Cranston, Lidický, Liu and Shantanam \cite{2021Planar}, and independently Lan and Song \cite{LanSong} showed that ${\rm ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,C_k)\ge 3n-6-\frac{Cn}{k}$ for large $n$. Moreover, Cranston et al. conjectured that ${\rm ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,C_k)\le 3n-6-\frac{Dn}{k^{lg_23}}$ when $n$ is large. In this note, we prove that ${\rm ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,C_k)\ge 3n-6-\frac{6\cdot 3^{lg_23}n}{k^{lg_23}}$ for every $k$. It implies Cranston et al.'s conjecture is essentially best possible.
The maximum number of cliques in graphs with bounded odd circumference
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this work, we give the sharp upper bound for the number of cliques in graphs with bounded odd circumferences. This generalized Turán-type result is an extension of the celebrated Erdős and Gallai theorem and a strengthening of Luo's recent result. The same bound for graphs with bounded even circumferences is a trivial application of the theorem of Li and Ning.
Generalized Turan number for the edge blow-up graph
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $H$ be a graph and $p$ be an integer. The edge blow-up $H^p$ of $H$ is the graph obtained from replacing each edge in $H$ by a copy of $K_p$ where the new vertices of the cliques are all distinct. Let $C_k$ and $P_k$ denote the cycle and path of length $k$, respectively. In this paper, we find sharp upper bounds for $ex(n,K_3,C_3^3)$ and the exact value for $ ex(n,K_3,P_3^3)$ and determine the graphs attaining these bounds.
Edges not covered by monochromatic bipartite graphs

Let $f_k(n,H)$ denote the maximum number of edges not contained in any monochromatic copy of~$H$ in a $k$-coloring of the edges of $K_n$, and let $ex(n,H)$ denote the Turán number of $H$. In place of $f_2(n,H)$ we simply write $f(n,H)$. Keevash and Sudakov proved that $f(n,H)=ex(n,H)$ if $H$ is an edge-critical graph or $C_4$ and asked if this equality holds for any graph $H$. All known exact values of this question require $H$ to contain at least one cycle. In this paper we focus on acyclic graphs and have the following results: (1) We prove $f(n,H)=ex(n,H)$ when $H$ is a spider or a double broom. (2) A \emph{tail} in $H$ is a path $P_3=v_0v_1v_2$ such that $v_2$ is only adjacent to $v_1$ and $v_1$ is only adjacent to $v_0,v_2$ in $H$. We obtain a tight upper bound for $f(n,H)$ when $H$ is a bipartite graph with a tail. This result provides the first bipartite graphs which answer the question of Keevash and Sudakov in the negative. (3) Liu, Pikhurko and Sharifzadeh asked if $f_k(n,T)=(k-1)ex(n,T)$ when $T$ is a tree. We provide an upper bound for $f_{2k}(n,P_{2k})$ and show it is tight when $2k-1$ is prime. This provides a negative answer to their question.
Exact results for generalized extremal problems forbidding an even cycle
We determine the maximum number of copies of $K_{s,s}$ in a $C_{2s+2}$-free $n$-vertex graph for all integers $s \ge 2$ and sufficiently large $n$. Moreover, for $s\in\{2,3\}$ and any integer $n$ we obtain the maximum number of cycles of length $2s$ in an $n$-vertex $C_{2s+2}$-free bipartite graph.
Stability version of Dirac's theorem and its applications for generalized Turán problems
Published • View PublicationBIB
In 1952, Dirac proved that every $2$-connected $n$-vertex graph with the minimum degree $k+1$ contains a cycle of length at least $\min\{n, 2(k+1)\}$. Here we obtain a stability version of this result by characterizing those graphs with minimum degree $k$ and circumference at most $2k+1$. We present applications of the above-stated result by obtaining generalized Turán numbers. In particular, for all $\ell \geq 5$ we determine how many copies of a five-cycle as well as four-cycle are necessary to guarantee that the graph has circumference larger than $\ell$. In addition, we give a new proof of Luo's Theorem for cliques using our stability result.

Turán number for odd-ballooning of trees
Published • View PublicationBIB
The Turán number $ex(n,H)$ is the maximum number of edges in an $H$-free graph on $n$ vertices. Let $T$ be any tree. The odd-ballooning of $T$, denoted by $T_o$, is a graph obtained by replacing each edge of $T$ with an odd cycle containing the edge, and all new vertices of the odd cycles are distinct. In this paper, we determine the exact value of $ex(n,T_o)$ for sufficiently large $n$ and $T_o$ being good, which generalizes all the known results on $ex(n,T_o)$ for $T$ being a star, due to Erdős et al. (1995), Hou et al. (2018) and Yuan (2018), and provides some counterexamples with chromatic number 3 to a conjecture of Keevash and Sudakov (2004), on the maximum number of edges not in any monochromatic copy of $H$ in a $2$-edge-coloring of a complete graph of order $n$.
The maximum number of triangles in $F_k$-free graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The generalized Turán number $ex(n,K_s,H)$ is the maximum number of complete graph $K_s$ in an $H$-free graph on $n$ vertices. Let $F_k$ be the friendship graph consisting of $k$ triangles. Erdős and Sós (1976) determined the value of $ex(n,K_3,F_2)$. Alon and Shikhelman (2016) proved that $ex(n,K_3, F_k)\le (9k-15)(k+1)n.$ In this paper, by using a method developed by Chung and Frankl in hypergraph theory, we determine the exact value of $ex(n,K_3,F_k)$ and the extremal graph for any $F_k$ when $n\ge 4k^3$.
The maximum number of copies of an even cycle in a planar graph

We resolve a conjecture of Cox and Martin by determining asymptotically for every $k\ge 2$ the maximum number of copies of $C_{2k}$ in an $n$-vertex planar graph.
Extremal results for graphs avoiding a rainbow subgraph
Published • View PublicationBIB
We say that $k$ graphs $G_1,G_2,\dots,G_k$ on a common vertex set of size $n$ contain a rainbow copy of a graph $H$ if their union contains a copy of $H$ with each edge belonging to a distinct $G_i$. We provide a counterexample to a conjecture of Frankl on the maximum product of the sizes of the edge sets of three graphs avoiding a rainbow triangle. We propose an alternative conjecture, which we prove under the additional assumption that the union of the three graphs is complete. Furthermore, we determine the maximum product of the sizes of the edge sets of three graphs or four graphs avoiding a rainbow path of length three.
