Dynamic list coloring of 1-planar graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
A graph is $k$-planar if it can be drawn in the plane so that each edge is crossed at most $k$ times. Typically, the class of 1-planar graphs is among the most investigated graph families within the so-called "beyond planar graphs". A dynamic $\ell$-list coloring of a graph is a proper coloring so that each vertex receives a color from a list of $\ell$ distinct candidate colors assigned to it, and meanwhile, there are at least two colors appearing in the neighborhood of every vertex of degree at least two. In this paper, we prove that each 1-planar graph has a dynamic $11$-list coloring. Moreover, we show a relationship between the dynamic coloring of 1-planar graphs and the proper coloring of 2-planar graphs, which states that the dynamic (list) chromatic number of the class of 1-planar graphs is at least the (list) chromatic number of the class of 2-planar graphs.

The structure and the list 3-dynamic coloring of outer-1-planar graphs
Published in Discrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, vol. 23, no. 3, Graph Theory (August 27, 2021) dmtcs:5860 • View PublicationBIB
An outer-1-planar graph is a graph admitting a drawing in the plane so that all vertices appear in the outer region of the drawing and every edge crosses at most one other edge. This paper establishes the local structure of outer-1-planar graphs by proving that each outer-1-planar graph contains one of the seventeen fixed configurations, and the list of those configurations is minimal in the sense that for each fixed configuration there exist outer-1-planar graphs containing this configuration that do not contain any of another sixteen configurations. There are two interesting applications of this structural theorem. First of all, we conclude that every (resp. maximal) outer-1-planar graph of minimum degree at least 2 has an edge with the sum of the degrees of its two end-vertices being at most 9 (resp. 7), and this upper bound is sharp. On the other hand, we show that the list 3-dynamic chromatic number of every outer-1-planar graph is at most 6, and this upper bound is best possible.

Degree bipartite Ramsey numbers
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $H\xrightarrow{s} G$ denote that any edge-coloring of $H$ by $s$ colors contains a monochromatic $G$. The degree Ramsey number $r_Δ(G;s)$ is defined to be $\min\{Δ(H):H\xrightarrow{s} G\}$, and the degree bipartite Ramsey number $br_Δ(G;s)$ is defined to be $\min\{Δ(H):H\xrightarrow{s} G\; \mbox{and} \;χ(H)=2\}$. In this note, we show that $r_Δ(K_{m,n};s)$ is linear on $n$ with $m$ fixed. We also determine $br_Δ(G;s)$ where $G$ are trees, including stars and paths, and complete bipartite graphs.

Equitable vertex arboricity conjecture holds for graphs with low degeneracy
Published • View PublicationBIB
The equitable tree-coloring can formulate a structure decomposition problem on the communication network with some security considerations. Namely, an equitable tree-$k$-coloring of a graph is a vertex coloring using $k$ distinct colors such that every color class induces a forest and the sizes of any two color classes differ by at most one. In this paper, we show some theoretical results on the equitable tree-coloring of graphs by proving that every $d$-degenerate graph with maximum degree at most $Δ$ is equitably tree-$k$-colorable for every integer $k\geq (Δ+1)/2$ provided that $Δ\geq 9.818d$, confirming the equitable vertex arboricity conjecture for graphs with low degeneracy.

Redundant edges in Ramsey graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
For graphs $G$, $F$ and $H$, let $G\rightarrow (F,H)$ signify that any edge coloring of $G$ in red and blue contains a red $F$ or a blue $H$. The Ramsey number $R(F,H)=\min\{r|\; K_r\rightarrow (F,H)\}$. In this note, we consider redundant edges in Ramsey graphs, which are associate with critical Ramsey numbers. For an integer $k\ge 1$, let ${\mathbb G}=\{G_k,G_{k+1},\dots \}$ be a class of graphs with $δ(G_n)\ge 1$. We define the critical Ramsey number $R_{\mathbb G}(F,H)$ with respect to $\mathbb G$ to be $\max\{n|\; K_r\setminus G_n \rightarrow(F,H),\,G_n\in{\mathbb G}\big\}$, where $r=R(F,H)$. We shall determine some $R_{\mathbb G}(F,H)$, where ${\mathbb G}$ consists of stars, matchings and complete graphs, respectively.

Edge-grafting theorems on permanents of the Laplacian matrices of graphs and their applications
Published • View PublicationBIB
The trees, respectively unicyclic graphs, on $n$ vertices with the smallest Laplacian permanent are studied. In this paper, by edge-grafting transformations, the $n$-vertex trees of given bipartition having the second and third smallest Laplacian permanent are identified. Similarly, the $n$-vertex bipartite unicyclic graphs of given bipartition having the first, second and third smallest Laplacian permanent are characterized. Consequently, the $n$-vertex bipartite unicyclic graphs with the first, second and third smallest Laplacian permanent are determined.

A question of Sárkozy and Sós on representation functions
For $m\geq 1$, let $0<b_0<b_1<...<b_m$ and $\ e_0,e_1,...,e_m>0$ be fixed positive integers. Assume there exists a prime $p$ and an integer $t>0$ such that $p^t\mid b_0$, but $p^t\nmid b_{i}\ {\rm for}\ 1\leq i\leq m$. Then, we prove that there is no infinite subset $\mathcal A$ of positive integers, such that the number of solutions of the following equation $$n=b_0(a_{0,1}+\cdot +a_{0,e_0})+...+b_m(a_{m,1}+...+a_{m,r_m}),\ a_{i,j}\in \mathcal A$$ is constant for $n$ large enough. This result generalizes the recent result of Cilleruelo and Rué for the bilinear case, and answers a question posed by Sárkozy and Sós.

Gauss sums over some matrix groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this note, we give explicit expressions of Gauss sums for general (resp. special) linear groups over finite fields, which involves Gauss sums (resp. Kloosterman sums). The key ingredient is averaging such sums over Borel subgroups. As applications, we count the number of invertible matrices of zero-trace over finite fields and we also improve two bounds by Ferguson, Hoffman, Luca, Ostafe and Shparlinski in [ Some additive combinatorics problems in matrix rings, Rev. Mat. Complut. (23) 2010, 501--513 ].

On a uniformly distributed phenomenon in matrix groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show that a classical uniformly distributed phenomenon for an element and its inverse in ($\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z})^{*}$ also exists in $\textrm{GL}_{n}(\mathbb{F}_{p})$. A $\textrm{GL}_{n}(\mathbb{F}_{p})$ analogy of the uniform distribution on modular hyperbolas has also been considered.
